This book shows the potential of entropy and information theory in forecasting, including both theoretical developments and empirical applications. The contents cover a great diversity of topics, such as the aggregation and combination of individual forecasts, the comparison of forecasting performance, and the debate concerning the tradeoff between complexity and accuracy. Analyses of forecasting uncertainty, robustness, and inconsistency are also included, as are proposals for new forecasting approaches. The proposed methods encompass a variety of time series techniques (e.g., ARIMA, VAR, state space models) as well as econometric methods and machine learning algorithms. The empirical contents include both simulated experiments and real-world applications focusing on GDP, M4-Competition series, confidence and industrial trend surveys, and stock exchange composite indices, among others. In summary, this collection provides an engaging insight into entropy applications for forecasting, offering an interesting overview of the current situation and suggesting possibilities for further research in this field.

Exiles, lost souls, remnants of a dying race ... The fate of the First Nations peoples of Van Diemens Land is one of the most infamous chapters in Australian history. Aspect essentiel de « la vie théâtrale au XVIIIe siècle », le théâtre de société constitue un objet d'étude privilégié pour les historiens des mentalités, du théâtre, de la littérature, de la musique, de l'architecture et des arts du spectacle en général. Les textes ici rassemblés, dans cette perspective interdisciplinaire, privilégient un ordre chronologique qui part de la cour de Sceaux pour arriver à la période révolutionnaire, dont on doit se demander si elle sonne la fin de ces manifestations considérées comme caractéristiques de l'Ancien Régime. Trois grands axes de réflexion se dessinent au sein de ce cadre : les lieux et les répertoires qui ont pour objet de situer précisément cette activité parmi d'autres ; les rapports de ces corpus avec la société du triple point de vue esthétique, moral et politique ; les échos que le théâtre de société a laissés dans les écrits du temps. L'étude de sources jusque-là inexplorées permet d’en savoir plus sur la genèse des pièces et des spectacles, de montrer comment, pourquoi, à quel moment de leur vie ou de leur carrière littéraire des auteurs amateurs ou professionnels, comme Marivaux, Voltaire ou Beaumarchais, se sont tournés vers les scènes privées, et quelles y sont les conditions de représentation : bâtiments, des plus simples aux plus luxueux ; composition des troupes, mêlant souvent professionnels et amateurs, qu'il s'agisse des comédiens ou des musiciens, dont le rôle essentiel et parfois novateur est ici souligné. La diversité des théâtres étudiés met en lumière l’importance de la province, tant dans les villes que dans les résidences de campagne. À Paris, l'activité théâtrale publique se trouve même démultipliée par celle des scènes privées. Si le théâtre de société se caractérise par la notion d'espace privé, qui le définit pour l’essentiel et le distingue des scènes privilégiées, officielles et non, il joue également un rôle de théâtre expérimental pour certaines pièces. Il permet en effet à certains auteurs de fourbir leurs premières armes à l'ombre d'un commanditaire s'apparentant plus ou moins à un mécène, dans un cadre où la notion de « société » ou de « spectateurs » se substitue à celle de « public ». Là, il imite, détourne ou invente de nouveaux genres, susceptibles de s'épanouir sur les scènes publiques, en France et, plus largement, dans une Europe tournée vers le modèle français. Lieu de transfert culturel, donc, des textes, des auteurs, des acteurs et des esthétiques, le théâtre de société du XVIIIe siècle est bien aux origines du théâtre amateur qui se développe aux siècles suivants.
