This collection of essays provides new insight into the complex realities of labour and employment market globalisation. The pluridisciplinary and multi-faced understanding of globalisation is based upon ground research in ten countries from South to North. Its contextualisation of globalising labour and employment market, perceived as process, constitutes the originality of the book. Globalisation is understood through a single process of both standardisation and differentiation, which also underscores its political agenda. The globalising process incorporates trends of convergent and somewhat undifferentiated Southern and Northern situations in labour and employment. Strong political perspectives thereby emerge to help understand changes in current capitalism and question the longstanding North to South paradigm. As labour and employment markets standardise and differentiate, what other problematical threads can be pulled to strengthen the hypothesis that trends converge within a single globalising process? The comparative concepts and tools proposed in this volume help to answer these queries. This book is made open access as part of the Knowledge Unlatched KU Select 2018: HSS Backlist Books
With global populations expected to exceed 9.2 billion by 2050 and available land and water resources devoted to crop production dwindling, we face significant challenges to secure global food security. Only 12 plant species feed 80% of the world’s population, with just three crop species (wheat, rice and maize) accounting for food consumed by 50% of the global population. Annual losses to crop pests and pathogens are significant, thought to be equivalent to that required to feed a billion people, at a time when crop productivity has plateaued. With pesticide applications becoming increasingly unfeasible on cost, efficacy and environmental grounds, there is growing interest in exploiting plant resistance and tolerance traits for crop protection. Indeed, mankind has been selectively breeding plants for desirable traits for thousands of years. However, resistance and tolerance traits have not always been those most desired, and in many cases have been inadvertently lost during the domestication process: crops have been effectively ‘disarmed by domestication’. Moreover, mechanistic understanding of how resistance and tolerance traits operate is often incomplete, which makes identifying the right combination for crop protection difficult. We aimed to address this Research Topic by inviting authors to contribute their knowledge of appropriate resistance and tolerance traits, explore what is known about durability and breakdown of defensive traits and, finally, asking what are the prospects for exploiting these traits for crop protection. The research topic summarised in this book addresses some of the most important issues in the future sustainability of global crop production.

In aesthetic enhancements, minimally invasive procedures are revolutionizing how people achieve youthful, natural-looking results. Among these, the Face Thread Lift stand out as game-changing techniques that offer a non-surgical approach to facial rejuvenation. These procedures provide subtle yet effective lifting, contouring, and tightening effects without the extended downtime associated with traditional facelifts. Understanding Nose and Face Thread Lifts Thread lifts use dissolvable, medical-grade sutures strategically placed beneath the skin to lift and support sagging tissues. Unlike conventional surgical facelifts, these procedures require minimal recovery time and offer an immediate improvement in skin laxity. Nose Thread Lift: Enhancing Definition and Contour A Nose Thread Lift is a non-surgical alternative to rhinoplasty, designed to elevate the nasal bridge, define the tip, and create a more structured appearance. This procedure is particularly popular among individuals looking for a more refined nose shape without resorting to surgery. How It Works Biodegradable threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) or polycaprolactone (PCL) are inserted into the nasal bridge and tip using a fine needle. These threads act as a scaffold, lifting and shaping the nose to achieve a more harmonious look. Over time, the threads stimulate collagen production, which further enhances the nose’s contour. Benefits of a Nose Thread Lift Immediate and natural-looking enhancement Non-surgical and minimally invasive No scarring or incisions Short recovery period Long-lasting results (up to 12–18 months) Face Thread Lift: A Non-Surgical Facelift Alternative A Face Thread Lift Singapore targets sagging skin, wrinkles, and fine lines by lifting and tightening the face’s deeper structures. This procedure is particularly beneficial for individuals in their 30s to 50s who want to combat early signs of aging without undergoing invasive surgery. How It Works Threads are inserted under the skin in specific areas such as the cheeks, jawline, and brows. Once in place, they provide an immediate lift while promoting collagen production for long term skin firmness and elasticity. The procedure typically takes under an hour and delivers a refreshed, youthful appearance. Benefits of a Face Thread Lift Natural and subtle enhancement No general anesthesia required Quick recovery (most resume daily activities within a few days) Improves skin texture and elasticity Gradual collagen stimulation for long-term benefits Comparing Nose Thread Lift and Face Thread Lift to Surgical Alternatives While traditional rhinoplasty and facelifts offer permanent results, they also come with significant downtime, potential complications, and higher costs. Thread lifts, on the other hand, provide an effective middle ground for individuals seeking noticeable yet natural improvements without the risks and recovery time associated with surgery. Key Differences Between Thread Lifts and Surgical Alternatives Thread lifts offer a non-invasive solution for those looking to enhance facial features with minimal recovery time. Unlike surgical procedures, which require incisions and extended healing periods, thread lifts provide an instant lift with fewer side effects. Additionally, the stimulation of collagen production ensures that results continue to improve over time, making thread lifts a practical choice for individuals seeking a youthful appearance without committing to permanent surgical alterations. Who is a Good Candidate for Thread Lifts? Individuals considering a Nose Thread Lift or Face Thread Lift should: Have mild to moderate skin laxity Desire a subtle, natural-looking enhancement Be in good overall health Have realistic expectations about the results Want to avoid invasive surgery What to Expect Before, During, and After the Procedure Pre-Treatment Consultation Before undergoing a Face Thread Lift in Singapore, a consultation with a qualified aesthetic practitioner is essential. The specialist will assess facial anatomy, discuss expectations, and create a customized treatment plan. During the Procedure The treatment area is numbed with local anesthesia. Threads are inserted using fine needles, carefully placed to achieve the desired lift and contour. The process typically takes between 30 to 60 minutes. Aftercare and Recovery Mild swelling and bruising may occur but typically subside within a few days. Avoid excessive facial movements, intense exercise, and heavy makeup for at least a week. Results improve over time as collagen production is stimulated, ensuring long-lasting skin rejuvenation. How to Maximize and Maintain Results To prolong the effects of a Face Thread Lift, consider the following tips: Follow a proper skincare regimen with collagen-boosting ingredients.
Predictive coding (PC) is a neurocognitive concept, according to which the brain does not process the whole qualia of external information, but only residual mismatches occurring between incoming information and an individual, inner model of the world. At the time of issue initiation, I expected an essential focus on mismatch signals in the brain, especially those captured by neurophysiologic oscillations. This was because one most plausible approach to the PC concept is to identify and validate mismatch signals in the brain. Announcing the topic revealed a much deeper consideration of intelligible minds of researchers. It turned out that what was of fundamental interest was which brain mechanisms support the formation, maintenance and consolidation of the inner model determining PC. Is PC a dynamic construct continuously modulated by external environmental or internal mental information? The reader will be delighted to get acquainted with the current views and understanding of eminent scholars in the field. It will be challenging to discover the realm of sleep where both physiological, energy preserving and mental qualia principles build on the inner models to shape and transform the self. And where neurophysiologic oscillations may both transmit external information and translate inner models from state to state to preserve the self-continuity and compactness.
