There is a vast body of imaginal literature in Bengali that introduces fictional Sufi saints into the complex mythological world of Hindu gods and goddesses. Dating to the sixteenth century, the stories—pīr katha—are still widely read and performed today. The events that play out rival the fabulations of the Arabian Nights, which has led them to be dismissed as simplistic folktales, yet the work of these stories is profound: they provide fascinating insight into how Islam habituated itself into the cultural life of the Bangla-speaking world. Mit dem gewachsenen Interesse fr die Geistesgeschichte Nachkriegsdeutschlands und der Bundesrepublik hat auch der Name Joachim Ritter in den letzten Jahren verstrkt Beachtung gefunden. Zwischen 1946 und 1968 lehrte er Philosophie an der Universitt Mnster und beeinflusste als akademischer Lehrer durch sein Collegium Philosophicum eine ganze Reihe von namhaften Hochschullehrern und Intellektuellen. Diese Studie rekonstruiert zum einen die Entwicklung dieses Kreises. Insbesondere untersucht sie, wie Joachim Ritters Philosophie, sein Verstndnis der modernen Welt und seine eigene intellektuelle Entwicklung in den Nachkriegsjahren bei seinen akademischen Schlern wirksam wurden, namentlich bei Hermann Lbbe und Odo Marquard, Robert Spaemann und Ernst-Wolfgang Bckenfrde. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt zum anderen den religionstheoretischen und -politischen Überlegungen dieser Autoren, die sich, obwohl jeweils entscheidend von Ritter beeinflusst, doch deutlich voneinander abheben. Zur Erschlieung dieser unterschiedlichen Perspektiven auf Moderne und Religion im Kontext der jungen Bundesrepublik zwischen Fortschritt und Verfall werden Bezge zu Autoren wie Carl Schmitt und Hans Blumenberg aufgegriffen und nachgelassene Aufzeichnungen Joachim Ritters ausgewertet. Durch ihre offenen Anschlusspunkte ebenso wie durch ihre inhaltlichen Ambivalenzen, die zudem im zeitlichen Verlauf nicht unverndert blieben, erweist sich rckblickend die Fruchtbarkeit, mit der Ritters Philosophie die Auseinandersetzung mit der eigenen Gegenwart anzuregen vermochte, als sein magebliches Erbe. All’evento interverrà Paolo Errani, fisico professionista e socio del Comitato Nucleare e Ragione, uno dei i curatori dell’opera di traduzione assieme ad Alessandro Pastore, professore della Alma Graduate School, e Simone Gallarini, Ingegnere Energetico. Il testo in questione, pur partendo da un’analisi incentrata sulla situazione specifica del Regno Unito, è già molto noto in giro per il mondo e riteniamo sia destinato a diventare una pietra miliare per ogni discussione inerente alle problematiche energetiche di qualsiasi Paese o comunità di stati. This book provides a comprehensive overview of volcanic crisis research, the goal being to establish ways of successfully applying volcanology in practice and to identify areas that need to be addressed for future progress. It shows how volcano crises are managed in practice, and helps to establish best practices. Consequently the book brings together authors from all over the globe who work with volcanoes, ranging from observatory volcanologists, disaster practitioners and government officials to NGO-based and government practitioners to address three key aspects of volcanic crises. First, the book explores the unique nature of volcanic hazards, which makes them a particularly challenging threat to forecast and manage, due in part to their varying spatial and temporal characteristics. Second, it presents lessons learned on how to best manage volcanic events based on a number of crises that have shaped our understanding of volcanic hazards and crises management. Third, it discusses the diverse and wide-ranging aspects of communication involved in crises, which merge old practices and new technologies to accommodate an increasingly challenging and globalised world. The information and insights presented here are essential to tapping established knowledge, moving towards more robust volcanic crises management, and understanding how the volcanic world is perceived from a range of standpoints and contexts around the globe.

How were accounts of war told in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern era?
