Die Biotechnologie wird häufig als eine sehr bedeutende Technologie des 21. Jahrhunderts angesehen. Allerdings sind die empirischen Erkenntnisse über ihre wirtschaftlichen Effekte bislang gering. Daran setzt diese Arbeit an. Auf der Basis von theoretischen Wirkungszusammenhängen untersucht der Autor mögliche zukünftige Produktions- und Beschäftigungseffekte der Biotechnologie. Dabei werden in verschiedenen Szenarien für das Jahr 2020 technologische Entwicklungen für verschiedene Anwendungsfelder projiziert und mit einem Input-Output-Modell gekoppelt. Die Ergebnisse ermöglichen Aussagen über die Nettoveränderung der Produktion und Beschäftigung sowie Veränderungen im sektoralen Strukturwandel durch die Diffusion der Biotechnologie.

Nowadays nanoscience and nanotechnologies provide us with many excellent examples of the unique solutions for the different technical problems and demands of human society. Smart stimuli-responsive nanosystems and nanomaterials are used in many fields such as medicine, biomedical, biotechnology, agriculture, environmental pollution control, cosmetics, optics, health, food, energy, textiles, automotive, communication technologies, agriculture, and electronics. The book “Smart Nanosystems for Biomedicine, Optoelectronics and Catalysis” describes the modern trends in nanoscience and nanotechnology for creation of smart hybrid nanosystems combining the inorganic nano-objects with organic, biological, and biocompatible materials, which create multifunctional and remotely controlled platforms for diverse technical and biomedical uses. The material includes several review and original research articles devoted to the problems of directed chemical and biological synthesis of such nanosystems, thorough analysis of their physical and chemical properties and prospects of their possible applications. We hope that the presented book will be useful for different nanoscience research groups and PhD and graduate students, to introduce them to the world of hybrid metal-organic and metal-biological nano-objects, and smart self-organizing nanosystems and open new ways of their possible use in different scientific and practical areas.

This book consists of nine chapters devoted to representations of melancholia in 19th-century art and literature. A noteworthy feature of the book is its use of concepts from later works by Sigmund Freud, Jean Clair, Jean Starobinski, Julia Kristeva and others. Those concepts elucidate further contexts of the notion of melancholia, which are presented not in isolation but juxtaposed with the philosophical background of the concept (starting from Hippocrates and Aristotle). Thus, the book not only provides a survey of images and modes of behaviour of 19th-century individuals, but also discusses the meanings of melancholia as they appeared in European culture over time.

Der Abriss mit seiner vielschichtigen Realität vermittelt Einsichten in das Selbstverständnis, die Selbstwahrnehmung und die Selbstdarstellung der Medizinischen Fakultät in ihrer Geschichte.

"Empirical research is carried out in a cyclic way: approaching a research area bottom-up, data lead to interpretations and ideally to the abstraction of laws, on the basis of which a theory can be derived. Deductive research is based on a theory, on the basis of which hypotheses can be formulated and tested against the background of empirical data. Looking at the state-of-the-art in translation studies, either theories as well as models are designed or empirical data are collected and interpreted. However, the final step is still lacking: so far, empirical data has not lead to the formulation of theories or models, whereas existing theories and models have not yet been comprehensively tested with empirical methods.This publication addresses these issues from several perspectives: multi-method product- as well as process-based research may gain insights into translation as well as interpreting phenomena. These phenomena may include cognitive and organizational processes, procedures and strategies, competence and performance, translation properties and universals, etc. Empirical findings about the deeper structures of translation and interpreting will reduce the gap between translation and interpreting practice and model and theory building. Furthermore, the availability of more large-scale empirical testing triggers the development of models and theories concerning translation and interpreting phenomena and behavior based on quantifiable, replicable and transparent data."
