In der Kultur des Mittelalters nehmen Körper in ihrer äußeren Zeichenhaftigkeit eine zentrale Stellung ein. Dies gilt insbesondere für deformierte Körper, die aufgrund ihrer auffälligen Andersartigkeit immer wieder Thema wahrnehmungstheoretischer Diskurse werden. Das zeigt sich in zweierlei Hinsicht: Zum einen wird bereits in zeitgenössischen Quellen diskutiert, wie die körperlichen Besonderheiten den inneren Imaginationsapparat der Betrachter stimulieren, zum anderen zeichnen sich körperlich Deformierte zumindest in Kunst und Literatur auffallend häufi g durch gesteigerte Wahrnehmungsfähigkeiten aus. Die körperliche Deformation markiert dabei Grenzüberschreitungen. Sie weist über die Dinge hinaus auf ‚das Andere‘ – gleich ob es sich dabei um ein kulturell Anderes handelt, oder um das ‚Andere‘ der Diesseitigkeit: das Transzendente und Göttliche. Obgleich man für das Hoch- und Spätmittelalter kein einheitliches Körperkonzept annehmen kann, ist auffällig, an wie vielen Schnittpunkten der deformierte Körper ins Zentrum der Wahrnehmung rückt. Diese Vielfalt spiegelt sich auch in den Perspektiven verschiedener Fachdisziplinen, wie z. B. Two different sanctioning systems are applicable to young adult offenders in Germany: juvenile criminal law and adult criminal law. The present study provides an overview of the various sanctions applied to these adolescents aged between 18 and 20 and of their reconvictions during an observation period. Based on data from the German Federal Central Criminal Register (Bundeszentral- und Erziehungsregister), the study covers all convictions and juvenile diversional measures in a specific reference year. This data set allows a detailed examination of the applied sanctions and measures, the proportion of juvenile and adult criminal law, and the reconviction rate differentiated by gender, age, offence and other variables. The empirical analysis also addresses regional differences in sanctioning and examines, if juvenile criminal law is “milder” and/or more effective than adult criminal law – questions that play an essential role in the debate on suitable sanctions for young adults.

The Electoral Consequences of Third Way Welfare State Reforms: Social Democracy’s Transformation and its Political Costs provides a comparative study of the electoral consequences of Third Way welfare state reforms. The book demonstrates that Third Way reforms went against the social policy preferences of social democracy’s core voters and indeed produced an electoral setback for social democrats at the ballots. Moreover, and accounting for cross-national variation, the analysis shows that the nature of the setback is contingent on the electoral system and the party competition social democrats face when reforming the welfare state.Dit boek analyseert de electorale gevolgen van de hervormingen in de welvaartsstaat in vier liberaal sociaaldemocratische landen in Europa. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist das Ziel dieser Arbeit, einen Beitrag zur experimentellen Analyse der Wirkungsweise der Direktmarketing-Instrumente Mailing, Email und SMS zu leisten. Aufbauend auf einer theoretischen Fundierung des direktmarketing-spezifischen Wirkungsprozesses werden zunächst die Wirkungen der zentralen endogenen und exogenen Determinanten des Direktmarketing-Einsatzes analysiert und in einem Wirkungsmodell zusammengefasst. The ocean is a huge reservoir of renewable energy sources, such as wind, currents, tides, waves, marine biomass, thermal energy, osmotic power, and so on. Like other maritime nations in Europe, France enjoys significant potential to develop these energy sources, especially overseas. In March 2007, Ifremer's chairman launched a prospective foresight study on these energies for the time horizon of 2030. With support from the Futuribles consulting group, twenty French partners representing the main stakeholders in the sector carried out this work. Their objective was to identify the technologies, specify the socio-economic prerequisites for them to emerge and be competitive and assess their respective impacts on power sources and the environment. What was learned from this study can be applied well beyond France, at a time when a European maritime strategy is taking shape.
