How to replace Steel Strings into Nylons This is a tutorial to help you replace Steel Strings into Nylons, it also can be used to change a broken one. I will use the Aklot 16 strings lyre for this, however it can be used on different brands. The nylons strings are from Amazon, this is the set of 15 strings from Aklot, you need 2 of them. You’ll need: A tuner Aklot nylon strings x2 (or other brands) Pincers Needle-Nose Pliers Use the Tuner to loosen up the string as much as you can. Using the pincers, cut the string. Push it out, and keep it somewhere. Then using the needle-nose pliers, untangle the string and get it out, you don’t need that anymore. Use the pincers to cut the base of the string, be careful because it tend to y off. If you did it correctly you should have the little ring. Pick a nylon string (have in mind to choose the right thickness, thicker for lower and thinner for higher, you can take example of the original strings) and with the help of the needle-nose pliers do a double knot around the ring. Slide the ring in it’s initial place, some of them will stick out because of the thickness, you can cut the excess but leave a bit of “tail” so it doesn’t untangle. The strings need to be on the left side, tune it (it might take a week or two to set, tune it regularly little by little to avoid it snapping) and cut the excess length. Voilà! Congratulations on changing your strings. Nylon produce a resonant and mellow sound, comparable to a small harp. Tutorial by NuageJuice, 2021 fl
