An introduction from South Africa, and probably the most attractive species yet introduced. It was very aptly described by a visitor- to our nursery as ‘‘an aristocratic Asparagus | y Sprengeri,’’ from which, however, it is entirely distinct, both in its habit of growth, as well asin the formation of its fronds. plant is of an almost erect habit of growth, producing fronds from two to four feet long, which, when just unfolding, are of a peculiar metallic bronze, from which they change to a golden- green, finally maturing a rich emerald-green. A plant with fronds in the various stages of development is most attractive. It was awarded a certificate of merit by the Society of American Florists, August’ 1903; also by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society in November, 1903. Stock limited. We annually find a growing demand for these gay-colored hardy Azaleas which are so readily forced during the winter months and they well deserve the popularity which is given them. In this new variety, which is now offered for the first time, we believe we are presenting a Fern which will finally take the place of the Boston Fern. This isa strong statement, but one which we believe will be fully realized. This new variety is identical | with the Boston Fern, except that it is not so large in the frond, and of more compact growth; to sum up its merits briefly, it can, under the most ordinary treatment, be grown into an ideal specimen of compact shape, which in the ordinary Boston Fern could only be accomplished with the most careful culture, and by giving the plants a large amount of room. Its natural, compact habit admits of almost double the number of plants to be grown in the same space as the regular Boston Fern.
