MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT MICHAEL D. HIGGINS As it marks its 20th anniversary, the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival has much to reflect on and indeed with pride and a sense of accomplishment. Its achievement founded on the legacy of the late Michael Dwyer, film correspondent of the Irish Times, has been, and is sustained by a cohort of lovers of the unique art form that is film. The Festival is now firmly embedded into Ireland’s cultural calendar, gifting Irish audiences with a valuable opportunity to engage with all that is best in the international world of film which must never know borders, which must allow for the emergent as much as the established. I have been among those fortunate to attend several screenings of innovative and original works brought to Ireland as part of the Festival, and to have had the joy of experiencing at first hand the creative articulation and artistic courage of talented directors from around the world. I was also delighted to have some special occasions such as the opportunity of presenting Volta Awards to Al Pacino in 2012, and Julie Andrews in 2015. I recall their pride at receiving one of the highest accolades offered by the Irish Film Industry. This year, once again, the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival will showcase work that is brilliant, extraordinary, daring and thought provoking. Thus enabling, yet again, its audience to enjoy the exceptional talent of new and established filmmakers and actors here in the city of Dublin. As we celebrate this twentieth anniversary I have no doubt the Festival will go from strength to strength and will continue to develop and evolve, playing the significant role it does in the cultural life of our nation. International Film Festival. Helen Hutton Managing Director The joy of being back in the cinema, for the festival, is hard to overstate. Last year we delivered a festival online, adapting in a short space of time to a new way of being. This year, we have a model which allows those who are ready and happy to be present together enjoying a cinematic experience, to do so, and for those perhaps who cannot be with us in person, to join us online again. All of this has been made possible by an incredible team of people. Whilst working remotely they have dedicated themselves to delivering a great festival experience for our audience. I would like to say to them, we recognize your hard work and dedication, and thank you for it. As always, we owe a great deal to our partners and sponsors who have helped sustain the festival throughout these times. In particular, we are grateful for the support of our Title Sponsor Virgin Media and our principal partner The Arts Council for their continuous support. Behind the scenes, we also have a board of directors who give freely of their time to help and advise us and we would like to thank them for being so supportive to the executive in these times. The festival has many sponsors of all levels, each one of them is committed to supporting this event and without them it would not be possible. Many of these businesses have faced challenging times and yet they are still with us. They are supporting 12 wonderful days of films which we will all enjoy. Our audience are the most important aspect of the festival for us. This festival is designed for you. We want to hear what you think of the films so please rate each film as you watch, as the audience award will make a huge difference to a filmmaker. So log into your Eventive account and vote for each film as you go. Remember its Your Festival, Your Voice.
