Protein Insights Newsletter Planterra / JBT Partnership JBT® Corporation is pleased to add Planterra, a plant-based protein company underneath the JBS Foods / Pilgrim’s family of companies, as a new customer in our alternative meat initiative. By aspiring to change the future of protein with flavorful, plant-based choices, Planterra’s goal is to delight vegans, flexitarians, and meat-eaters by producing additional tasty options in the plant-based protein market. The uniqueness of Planterra’s products and processes presented testing challenges at their own pilot plant facility in Greeley, Colorado. Early stages of planning and testing were therefore executed at our Sandusky Food Processing Tech Center. The talented JBT crew provided expert support in the research & development process through equipment selection, product optimization, and sample creation for Planterra’s photoshoots, foodservice, and retail environments. In order to execute this JBT “win”, Account Manager, Tricia Harlan relied on her prior sales rapport with one of the JBS Foods engineers. The relationship they built brought Planterra into the Sandusky Tech Center where our JBT team was able to present Planterra with our vast processing knowledge and assistance in order to field questions, brainstorm, and most importantly, provide solutions. The JBT Team proved our expertise is second to none! This new product launch (an extruded plant-based protein) has led Planterra to rely on their new preferred suppliers Buhler™, a global extruder manufacturer, and JBT for solutions in injection, portioning, coating, cooking, and freezing. Additionally, JBT was able to provide oil holding tanks and a melter from our sister division, Diversified Food & Health, into the equipment package Planterra purchased. “Congratulations” and “Well Done” to the entire JBT team (from production to final installation) involved in this newly formed partnership. NEW PRODUCT LAUNCHES On January 25, 2021 JBT launched its new NEOCAT Chiller and Automated Chiller Clean-In- Place Offering. The NEOCAT Auger Chiller System is a revolutionary design that allows customers to achieve 30% more throughput within a given length. This means that customers can either obtain the same throughput as a traditional chiller in 30% less space or they can realize a 30% increase in capacity within the footprint of their existing chiller. This means we can help our customers greatly increase their capacity and profitability. NEOCAT is also the first immersion chiller with an unloader that can be turned off during employee breaks without overloading the machine. This design feature results in increased uptime and fewer damaged birds for a better yield. The JBT weblink shows a great video of the chiller’s functions for a poultry production facility. Along with NEOCAT , we are debuting our new Clean-in-Place technology, which automates the chiller cleaning process to reduce labor costs, improve safety and ensure a more consistently sanitary environment. Typically, chiller cleaning requires an average of four employees and several hours each day. By automating cleaning with Clean-in-Place technology, processors will only need one employee to operate the system. This provides smaller footprint, increased yield and less maintenance in addition to improved food and worker safety. Clean-in-Place technology can also be added to any legacy JBT chiller in operation and can be customized to meet plant specifications. Most recently, JBT launched the latest in freezing technology with the Northfield CleanFREEZE™ Spiral Freezer . An ‘alpha’ unit is almost complete residing in the Sandusky Tech Center. This freezer is built for high-volume freezing, chilling, and cooling for a wide range of food products like bakery items, trayed ready-meals, handheld snacks and even frozen pizzas. It boasts an uncomplicated design with new hygienic aspects to make customers’ maintenance easy and quick. PHOTO CONTEST! WE WANT TO SEE JBT PRODUCTS AND PEOPLE!
