EVENT DETAILS 2020 SPECIAL OLYMPICS CHICAGO POLAR PLUNGE DATE & LOCATION Sunday, March 1st, 2020 North Avenue Beach - 1600 North Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60613 TEAM UNITED TENT United will have a dedicated tent to assemble as a team located on the SOUTH end of the event area. Look for a large United Airlines sign on front of tent. Light refreshments will be served. Small lockers will also be available inside our tent to store personal belongings. TIMELINE 9:30am -10:00am - Arrivals and registration. Location: Team United tent 10:15am - Presentation of Team United awards. Location: Team United tent 10:30am - Team United leaves tent to take the plunge! 11:30am (approx.) – United event ends. All participants are welcome to visit the “Meltdown Party” hosted by Special Olympics located in separate tent onsite. RECOMMENDED TRANSPORTATION – PUBLIC TRANSIT OR TAXI / RIDESHARE If possible, travel to the Polar Plunge via public transportation or ridesharing services is recommended. See separate document for complete Uber redemption instructions. If you must drive, there is no parking at North Avenue Beach. Pay parking is available at the Chicago History Museum (LaSalle Dr. & Clark St.). Limited free parking is available at the Lincoln Park Zoo parking lot (Fullerton Pkwy. & Cannon Dr.) though this lot tends to fill up quickly. REGISTRATION After arriving to North Avenue Beach, proceed directly to the Team United tent. We will provide all plungers with a United Polar Plunge t-shirt and participant wrist band. There is no need to stop at any other registration area. WHAT TO BRING ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR SHOES TO ENTER THE WATER. We ask participants to wear the United Polar Plunge t-shirt. From there, fun and unique costumes are encouraged. Bring a change of clothes for after the plunge. Changing facilities are available in the North Avenue Beach Boathouse and designated changing tents throughout the beach.
