Opening for a Research Assistant Position (Remote Work) Prof. Ambrish Dongre (IIM Ahmedabad), Prof. Upasak Das (University of Manchester), and Karan Singhal (PhD student, University of Luxembourg and LISER ) are pleased to announce an opening for a Research Assistant position based in India. About the Project: Funded by the International Economics Association (IEA), this project aims to build an extensive database on faculty within Indian economics academia. This database will encompass educational trajectories, publication records, conference participation in various capacities , involvement in professional bodies, thus encompassing an individual ’s professional journey . Once the database is compiled, the subsequent goal will be to analyze how the educational and career trajectories and research profiles of faculty members differ based on their backgrounds. For instance, we aim to understand how the trajectories of female faculty differ from those of male faculty. We are looking for candidates who have a genuine interest in the subject matter. The role entails using scraping and machine learning techniques for data extraction and text analysis (e.g., topic modelling ). The ultimate objective is to compile a comprehensive database detailing faculty members in economics across India, their publications, and their academic and professional journeys. As highlighted earlier, this initiative is backed by a grant from the International Economics Association, which seeks to build evidence regarding women in economics in developing countries. Fluency in Hindi is also essential. • A willingness to travel to project sites for data collection. Tenure of the Appointment: The initial appointment will be for six months, with a possibility of extension up to a year based on performance. The Research Assistant is expected to work full - time and may need to travel within India. Location: Remote Compensation : It will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Typically, the range is from Rs 40,000 to Rs. 60,000 per month.
