How To Make $100,000 A Year On YouTube How To Make $100,000 A Year On YouTube So you want to start making money on YouTube? Well, you’ve come to the right place! My name is Adam Del Duca and over the past three years, I have been collecting paychecks like the ones you see below as the founder of the animated personal finance channel Betterment Boss. As at the time of writing this guide, I presently have over 170,000 YouTube subscribers and am making a full-time living off my channel, so yes, you are in good hands when it comes to learning how to make money online via YouTube. Now, the unfortunate part is that while many people want to make money with YouTube, few people actually do. It’s unfortunate because once you gain traction on the platform, making money with YouTube becomes extremely easy but it’s getting to that point where people struggle. As such, I want to share with you the five factors that I believe are essential to growing a YouTube channel and using it to earn 6-figures a year which I have been fortunate enough to achieve in my own content creation journey and which you can emulate if you follow the tips I am about to provide. If you’re ready to peek into the brain of a six-figure YouTuber then keep reading because your path to YouTube riches starts right now! Number 1: Your Niche On Youtube, the niche you select will make or break your success. For example, while you may think that the channel you’ve started around naming rocks may be fascinating, chances are you are the only one who actually thinks this. Alternatively, your YouTube channel revolving around pranking your classmates may seem like fun and could garner a ton of views but do you really think major brands want to advertise on your content? Unlikely. Selecting the right niche on YouTube is made up of two core components: Interest and Profit. Interest is how interested you are in the content you are making but more importantly how interested your audience will be. Again, only you care about naming rocks, most other people won’t be. Then, there’s profit. We aren’t making YouTube videos because we have nothing better to do. We are making videos to make money - and lots of it! As such, you need to create content around highly monetizable subjects. What are those subjects? Let’s get into that now. From my experience on YouTube, the most profitable niches are: ● Money ● Health ● Dating All of these niches have the potential to earn you a ton of money via ads as well as brand deals, affiliate sales and the like. What I recommend is that as you start your YouTube journey, pick a sub niche within one of these larger niches and as you grow you can expand from there. For example, if you choose the dating niche, you may start by teaching “how to date as a student in college” and expand your audience from there. Here are some YouTube channels in the various niches I’ve just mentioned that you can take a look at to see what kind of content you would be making if you pursued any of these three winning niches: Money: ● Graham Stephan ● Minority Mindset ● New Money Health: ● Greg Doucette ● Joe Delaney ● Nicole Burgess Dating: ● Courtney Ryan ● Charisma On Command ● StephanSpeaks Number 2: Audience Interest If there was ever a silver bullet to YouTube growth it’s riding the coattails of a popular topic. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen channels explode overnight because they started creating content around a popular subject matter. Now, it’s one thing for me to tell you that this growth hack works but it’s another to show you and I can’t think of two better examples than two YouTubers in my niche of personal finance: Andrei Jikh and Erika Kullberg. Andrei Jikh started his YouTube career in early 2019 and rode the cryptocurrency wave to over 1.5 million subscribers in just 2 years time as seen below. To date, Andrei has made over $1M in advertising revenue alone and much, much more through his Patreon, video course, brand deals and the like. As for Erika, she also experienced very impressive growth through the stimulus check content she posted during the start of the pandemic in early 2020. Here’s how quick she grew: As you can see, Erika hit 100,000 subscribers in just one year’s time and part of her success came down to her capitalizing on people’s need for constant US government stimulus check content. Therefore, if you want to grow quickly, find what’s trending and jump on the bandwagon! Number 3: Value Proposition While it’s easy to overlook this reality, whenever someone watches one of your YouTube videos, they are using precious time out of their finite life to do so. As you know, time is our most precious resource and you should cherish the fact that people are sharing some of it with you by watching your content. As such, you need to provide value to your audience. Value on YouTube comes in two forms and two forms only: 1. Education 2. Entertainment Education can be teaching someone how to solve the quadratic formula, how to make a budget or how to change a tire. Entertainment can be pranking your sister for millions to see or singing your cover of your favourite band’s hit song. The problem is, when either one is used without the other, your results will only ever be mediocre. Solely educating will bore most people and as such your watch time will be abysmal. Solely entertaining and people will leave your video feeling empty inside. However, combine the two and you have a recipe for success! I’ve been consuming and creating on YouTube for many years now and I can’t think of two better examples of creators who masterfully combine education and entertainment than Will Tennyson and James Jani. Will is excellent at combining educational content around fitness and health with witty jokes that never seem to fall flat. James, on the other hand, creates some of the most captivating documentaries on YouTube and his rapid channel growth speaks to it. James started his channel in April 2020 and has reached over 850,000 subscribers in just 18 months - a feat most people never achieve! Therefore, if you want to grow on YouTube, you must educate AND entertain! Number 4: Network You’ve heard it said before that “your network is your net worth” and when it comes to YouTube, your success hinges on who you keep around you. If you ask me, one of the most overlooked growth and monetization hacks that exists on the platform is connecting and befriending other YouTubers. When I first started out on YouTube, my videos were terrible and I had absolutely no direction for my channel. Fortunately, what I did have was the foresight to connect with those ahead of me in the YouTube game and these connections, which have turned into friendships over time, have significantly contributed to me being able to earn over $100,000 a year on YouTube. Now, I can’t believe I am going to share with you this powerful two-step process for growing and monetizing via your YouTube network in a free guide but here goes nothing! The first step you need to take to start building connections on YouTube is to comment on videos who’s creators you admire. Even with over 100,000 subscribers, I notice who regularly comments on my videos and so I can tell you first hand this advice works. Once you get commenting down pat, reach out to your favourite YouTubers via email. Most people overlook this channel of correspondence but you won’t make this same mistake. You can find the email addresses to most channels on their YouTube “About” page so make sure you capture their email and send a complimentary email about what you like most about their content. If you do things right, you should be able to engage your favourite YouTubers in a regular exchange of thoughts and ideas and over time, a friendship will develop. This is a long-term play but it’s well worth your time! The second step is to harness your friendship to grow and monetize. Here’s how I use this technique to get more views and make more money. What I do is I regularly exchange community posts with my best YouTube connections. Here’s an example of me exchanging with a good friend of mine Practical Wisdom. Here’s an example of him doing the same for me: As you can see, this sharing of content not only promotes more views (see the 43K above) and growth but also generates more income in the form of ad revenue, affiliate commissions and more sales of my two courses, Side Hustle Success and Six-Figure Tuber. Therefore, while striving to make the best content possible, make sure to connect with those around you and remember as the saying goes: “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” Number 5: Monetization Strategy What if I told you that a channel with less than 10,000 subscribers could earn more than a channel 10x its size? Don’t believe me? You should because my fellow YouTuber YourFriendAndy has earned over $40,000 in his first year on YouTube despite having under 10K subscribers. How does he and many other small channels make so much money? Simple, they have a monetization plan and they execute on it. Sadly, there are many large channels, who will remain unnamed, who should be making tons of money but fail in their monetization efforts. Now, I like to separate monetizing a YouTube channel into two buckets: advertising revenue and other. The money you make from ads being placed on your videos are driven by how much advertisers are willing to pay to promote their products and services on your content. For example, I make on average $12.20 per 1,000 views. This is my portion of the total amount that an advertiser will pay for 1,000 views of exposure. As you guessed, YouTube keeps the rest. This means that I only need to get 683,000 views a month to make $8,333 which equates to $100,000 a year in ad revenue. This may seem like a lot of views for someone just starting out on the platform but it is totally attainable with time and patience. Now, I will admit that ad revenue on YouTube can be rather volatile. The figures you see above are from a down month but that’s still a good chunk of change for about 5 hours a month of work which I talk about more in my course Six-Figure Tuber. Next, let’s talk about the “other” category of making money on Youtube! Your YouTube channel can be monetized in many ways. Some of the most popular are: ● Affiliate marketing ● Digital or physical product sales ● Memberships ● Brand Deals ● Consulting Now, just how lucrative can these other means of making income from your YouTube channel be? Let’s see finance YouTuber MeetKevin’s income figures from September 2020 to find out: As you can see, YouTube can be big business if you know what you’re doing! And there you have it, those are the five factors that are the most critical to growing and monetizing on YouTube. Unfortunately, this is the end of this guide but it doesn’t have to be the end of our time together. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will personally respond as quickly as possible! Moreover, if you think YouTube could be the spark to a new financial life like it has been for me then come join the Six-Figure Tuber community today. We would be happy to have you! Best, Adam
