REMOVALS COMPANY Contact at least 3 removal companies, ask about availability for preferred dates and arrange quotes around 4-6 weeks before removal. Most reputable companies will ask that you pay a deposit once your moving date has been confirmed. CHECKLIST COMMUNICATION If you are buying a property, keep in contact with your estate agents and solicitors to make sure everyone is on the same page. PACKING When packing yourself, remember to make sure everything is packed securely and appropriately. Use smaller boxes for heavy items, medium boxes for the majority of household items and larger boxes are best for lighter items. Label all boxes clearly so these can be correctly placed in the right rooms. If you find the task of packing daunting, you can look into a packing service, usually, most reputable removal companies can provide this service for you and include it in your quotes. If you are renting, be sure to check your tenancy and hand in your notice in the required time frame. HAND IN YOUR NOTICE Remember to pack your essentials separately. TOP TIP UTILITIES Update your details. With everything else going on, it can be easy to miss one or two people you need to update your details with when moving. On the day of moving, be sure to take your meter readings and give these to your utility companies. MOVING HOME CHILDCARE & PETS Do you have children and/or animals? Think about where they are going to be on the day. Usually arranging suitable arrangements for on the day is the best option, and safer in most cases, for both the children, animals and removal companies. ON THE DAY Check you have all your essentials, medications, anything you will need! Make sure you know where all of your important documents and valuables are. (Passport, driving license, birth certificates. Anything particularly valuable or sentimental you may want to take yourselves in the car). Give meter readings to utility companies. Make sure you know where all your door and window keys are, and leave these in one place for the new occupiers. Once the vans are loaded, walk through the house and around the garden, sheds, garage etc. Ensuring nothing is forgotten! FAMILY FRIENDS & NEIGHBOURS Be sure to inform your friends and family of your new address. (At least the ones you want to keep in touch with). And where possible, speak to your neighbours about moving cars to ensure there is room for your removal vans on the day. GROCERIES As you get closer to moving day, think about your fridge & freezer. You don’t want to waste a fridge and freezer full of food, so try to keep these to a minimum. Defrost your freezer 1-2 days before the move, to ensure it is fully defrosted and dry, you don’t want it to empty water all over your belongings in transit. CONFIRM Around a week before you are due to move, check in with your solicitors/new landlords/estate agents, that everything is still going ahead as planned. And keep your removal company in the loop. Any delays they will also need to be informed of. GET A QUOTE www.craigatkinsonremovals.com For assistance, please call: 01282 932054
