Oye will serve as a Guest Judge for Anacostia Coordinating Council’s Youth Voices for DC Statehood Competition Washington, DC— For the second year in a row, Rep. Oye will serve as a judge for Anacostia Coordinating Council’s (ACC) Youth Voices for DC Statehood Competition at The Panorama Room (1600 Morris Rd SE) on Friday July 29, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM ET. This year’s event is co-sponsored by the DC Summer Youth Employment Program to gather poetry and music submissions from Young People as they discuss the importance of DC Statehood. The artistic submissions will be scored and winners will be announced at the event on July 29, 2022. Rep Oye appreciates ACC for hosting this annual event and engaging high school and college students to become the youngest voices in our fight for DC Statehood. Rep. Oye states, “I would like to thank ACC’s Phillip Pannell and Stuart Anderson for the work they do for our community. This competition will not only provide resources for young people, but increase awareness of DC Statehood amongst the Youth. I’m honored to join the effort in cultivating tomorrow’s leaders in the fight for equal voting rights for DC residents.” ### As US Representative, Rep. Oye has helped increase vaccine access to DC residents during the pandemic, implemented science enrichment programs in DC public schools, and addressed environmental justice by aiding in the restoration of DC's federal parks. He submitted 2 resolutions to Congress and co-wrote a resolution to the Department of Justice leading to their landmark decision to allow COVID compassionately released non-violent offenders to serve the remainder of their sentences at home.
