Good News from the House Our quarterly digital slideshow Volume 1: April-June 2021 Hello Family, The Bible commands us to love God first, then ourselves and others. We want to ensure we are walking in relationships that are healthy, thriving and bringing honor to God. How can we love God whom we’ve never seen but be bitter and hateful to His children who we see everyday? Our quarterly digital slideshow, Good News from the House, will allow us to celebrate, educate, uplift and edify each other so we can continue to thrive in our close walk with God and each other. This quarter we are celebrating our members born in the spring including Senior Pastor Kwesi Oginga and Pastor Doctor McGougain. We’ve included words of wisdom in the pastor’s hearts, some tips on being good stewards of money, time and temple, a movie review and a plethora of thanksgiving and shout-outs while you continue to reflect on the word with our monthly scripture focus. We pray you’re blessed by each piece selected to encourage, guide and uplift you. And finally we would love to hear from you, if you have some words you’d like to share please submit them to [email protected]. Our next issue comes out on July 1, 2021. Good News from the House 11 Our quarterly digital slideshow April-June 2021 Movie Review Judas & the black Messiah cont’d from pg 6 The film is carried by brilliant performances and story which captures the racially tense and volatile times which mirror the current state of affairs in the United States. There’s also a tenderness illustrated by Fred Hampton and Deborah Johnson (played by Dominique Fishback), Hampton's girlfriend and a Black Panther member. Judas and The Black Messiah clearly alludes to the story of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his betrayal at the hands of his disciple, Judas. Jesus was the messiah. Christ is a title that means a messiah or 'the anointed one'. A messiah is a savior or liberator of a group of people. Jesus disrupted the status quo and was targeted by the ruling powers of that day for assassination. He was betrayed by a disciple named Judas for 30 pieces of silver. Judas capitulated and conspired with Jesus’ enemies to bring him down. After the betrayal, he felt guilt and met a similar end to William O’Neal. One could even say that the relationship between Fred and Deborah is reminiscent of Jesus’ love for the church, his bride. Perhaps I’m stretching a bit. However, there is a case to be made for the similarities between the two messiahs. I recommend the film for its drama, urgency, and historical value. It is a sad and somber tale. Fortunately, for the believers of Jesus Christ, our savior rose from the grave and we await his return. Victory over death. Spoiler alert, if you believe in Christ, in the end, we win. Keep the faith and keep watching and praying.- Pastor Doc Judas and The Black Messiah was streaming on HBO Max. However, it no longer is. An official video release has yet to be announced. There were profanity and violence. Hence, viewer discretion is advised.
