Thank you for your interest in adopting a Sphynx Kitten; Each adoption includes: a kitten from HCM annually scanned and HCM negative parents FIV/FELV negative, spay/neuter contract, Health certificate by a vet credentialed by the dept of agriculture, vaccines, de-worming, kitten preparation list, and kitten go-home instructions. We require a $500 non-refundable reservation fee for Sphynx within 24 hours of kitten selection to reserve your kitten. This fee will go toward the total price of the kitten. If this fee is not paid within 24 hours the kitten will be offered to the next person on our wait list. We run a closed cattery which means we do not allow outside animals that are not part of our breeding program into our home. We also do not allow unfamiliar people into our home. Young kittens’ immune systems are very sensitive. We can carry viruses on our clothing, shoes, hands etc. which would put our kittens at risk. Kittens are VERY socialized here with us. They are raised with dogs, children and plenty of other kitties! To keep you well informed on your baby we will update you weekly with pictures and videos. Please do not hesitate to text me at (786)582-8259 with any questions. We proudly give references from our previous kitten buyers & our veterinarian. Are hairless cats friendly? What makes the sphynx such a devoted pet is their temperament. Sphynx cats need a ton of affection, socialization, and attention. If you aren’t able to constantly tend to your hairless cat, they may become heartbroken and depressed. An easy way to avoid loneliness in your hairless cat is by giving them a companion. Sphynx aren’t only friendly to their owners, they’re also great with other cats and make great friends with dogs, too. Sphynx cats are some of the best companions a cat owner could have. But this unbreakable bond does take a bit of work to develop. These tips will help you take care of your hairless companion so you can enjoy many happy years together. Can you ship your kittens? Yes we DO! Here are a few of the options we provide: Kitty Cabbie services; hand-delivering your kitty from car to doorstep (costs vary); Kitty Flights available through United Airlines are $400; or one of our trusted Flight Nannies (costs vary); and we always welcome any of our adopters to fly or drive directly to any of our cattery locations and pick up their babies themselves. We will always meet you at the airport for a same day return or next day return flight. The cost of flying your kitten in the plane with you is typically free to a small fee of $75-$100 dollars depending on the airline and they are allowed to fly stowed right under your seat. When you adopt a kitten from us your breeder will go over all of your shipping options in more detail and find the perfect arrangement for you and your new kitty. How old are your kittens when they can go home? We raise our kitties until they are 12-14 weeks old prior to allowing them to go to their new homes. This way they are big enough to already be spayed and neutered, and receive all vaccinations and vet services they required for the 1st year of life; with the exception of the rabies done at 16 weeks. Do they get cold? Due to the fact that they don’t have a fur coat, they get easily cold. To compensate for this, the Sphynx’s body temperature is actually four degrees hotter than the body temperature of most cat breeds. They certainly can and do get cold if not cared for properly. It is most appropriate to provide them with a heat lamp to lounge under or another type of heated bed. Also, if your home is kept at below 76 degrees, we also recommend keeping your kitty clothed. Basically, your Sphynx will spend significant parts of its time near all heat sources in your home. If you’re one of those pet owners who are in favor of the idea of dressing up their pets, then the Sphynx is the ideal domestic cat for the job. Cat clothing is one of the best ways to keep your Sphynx warm and healthy. While these kitties are known for their delightful personalities and adorable appearance, they also require special care and considerations. Despite their hairless status, they are a much more demanding pet than many of their furry counterparts. If you’re thinking about bringing a Sphynx into your life, here’s what you need to know. Sphynx Cats Have Big Personalities “Social” is not a word some people would associate with cats, but in the case of the Sphynx, it is a very apt descriptor. Sphynx Cats Require Constant Care If you’re up to the rigors of a Sphynx’s big personality, the next factor to consider is the cat’s overall care. The hairlessness of Sphynx cats does not mean that they’re less work than cats with fur. Maintaining Healthy Skin Through Their Diet On the contrary, a lot goes into keeping these cats well-groomed and their skin healthy. Caring for a Sphynx’s skin starts with diet. You want a high-quality food, because food affects the amount of oil that a Sphynx’s skin produces. The better the food, the less oil. If you don’t feed them a high-quality diet, oils accumulate more quickly and can lead to not just ongoing skin problems but also issues with ear wax and infections. Because these kitties have no fur, they tend to leave grease spots on the areas that they frequent. Kittens are currently being fed Royal Canin Kitten Food in Both Can and Grain Food. A good addition to the cat’s diet is also Salmon oil, this helps ensure the cat has enough Omega-3 and helps with their heart function and hip and joints. These are sold in containers with pumps which you can easily add into their food. Due to the nature of their fast metabolisms Sphynx cats should also consume vitamins daily. A good option is Tomlyn Nutri-cal High Calorie Nutritional gel for kittens. Sphynx Cat Care If you have a Sphynx, be prepared to groom it at least once a week. "What?" you say, "But it's hairless; why does it need grooming?" In fact, Sphynxes groom themselves as often as regular cats, but since they don't have enough fur to absorb the oil secreted by their skin or their saliva, grooming leaves a sticky, sometimes crusty residue of oil, sweat, and spit on their skin. Think of them in the same way you would think of a baby. It's hairless, close to the ground, not designed to clean itself, and has special needs. Bathing A Sphynx cat needs a bath at least once a week, and preferably in a sensitive pet shampoo ensure any bacteria or other nasties are killed during the bath. Most cats of this breed have been acclimated to regular baths by their breeder, which you can see in all the cat videos of hairless kitties happily playing in the bath. However, sometimes a Sphynx will retain its cat instincts and really dislike getting wet. Make sure your breeder has worked at acclimatizing your kitten to a regular bath, and continue regular bathing to reinforce the habit. Special rewards during and after will help. Even with the bathing, your new friend may leave marks on furniture, sheets and your fluffy white towels just out of the drier if they sleep there for any length of time. This is because of their oily sweat glands, which can cause reddish-brown oil to build up on their skin. Regular bathing will help, but it will not keep the cats from sweating, so if you cannot deal with the occasional oily brown sweat stain, this may not be the cat for you. Bathing a Sphynx is “a bit like bathing an infant with claws.” You oftentimes use wet washcloths—one with a bit of shampoo and another with just water. That way they don’t have to be fully immersed. When you’re done bathing a Sphynx, it’s important to dry them off quickly with a soft, warm towel to prevent their skin from getting chapped. You also don’t want to bathe a Sphynx too often because that will dry out their skin. Sphynx cats are prone to ear infections, so owners must be diligent about keeping ears clean and removing accumulation of earwax. They should also pay close attention to their kitty’s paws, as grime can accumulate between toes and cause infections. How Do You Clean a Cat’s Ears? It might take some practice if you’ve never cleaned your cat’s ears before, but luckily the process is pretty straightforward. Complete the following steps with cleaning solution and gauze close at hand: Start with pulling back the earflap gently and fill one ear canal with a cleaning solution recommended by your veterinarian. Massage the ear base for five to ten seconds, and then let your cat shake the solution out. Wrap gauze around your finger to clean excess liquid out of the ear canal Tips for How to Clean a Cat’s Ears Even if you think your cat needs an ear cleaning, your feline friend may have a different opinion. Here are a few tips to help you through the process: Have a second person your hold your cat while cleaning her ears to keep her from moving. Never use a Q-tip in the ear canal, it can damage the eardrum and push debris further inside the ear. Instead, use a Q-tip to only clean visible earflap folds. Before you begin the cleaning process, it can be helpful to wrap the cat in a towel to keep them still Remember how your cat will shake its head to get out that excess liquid? Be sure and close your eyes and mouth before letting your cat shake its head! Sphynx Cats Health Issues Like many purebred cats, Sphynx cats can develop genetic health problems. The Sphynx cat breed is prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick. Sphynx Cats should absolutely be scanned annually by a Veterinary cardiologist. Sphynx cats are also prone to dental issues. They need regular dental cleanings. Sphynx owners should seek out veterinarians with a strong background in cats, and purebred cats in particular. It’s really important to have a vet familiar with these cats so that if and when you run into problems, they can be properly diagnosed. Clipping the nails on your hairless cat Sphynx cats don’t even have hair on their feet. This means they are susceptible to dirt, dust, and any other kind of blockage getting lodged in between their nails. Regularly clipping their nails helps keep their nails clean. Be sure to use a cat nail clipper and avoid going too far down on their claws to avoid any injury. If you are unsure, contact your vet and have them show you how to properly clip your cat’s nails. Acne care for sphynx cats Due to direct contact with outside elements, sphynx cats are prone to acne, just like humans. Dirt can build up in their skin and result in blackheads. Cleaning blackheads is vital to avoiding any future skin issues. Scrub the breakout lightly with warm water and a mild antibacterial soap. Ask your vet for any recommendations and avoid using human products that could potentially damage or irritate your cat’s skin. Sphynx Cats Need Protection from Cold Weather and the Sun Another issue that stems from Sphynx cats’ hairlessness is that these kitties get cold more easily than their fuzzy cousins. There are plenty of options for keeping Kitties warm. Cat Apparel made from soft fabrics can keep your cat warm without irritating her skin. However, clothes soak up those skin oils, so they must be washed fairly often to keep them from getting grungy. There are also heated cat beds that can keep cats warm. If your house is particularly cold, you can pre-warm beds with things like microwavable heating pads. And never underestimate the value of a snuggly blanket! Sphynxes’ lack of fur means they’re very prone to sunburn so protective UV clothing should be worn and limiting outside exposure to shaded areas is encouraged. Sphynx Cats Are Not Hypoallergenic If you are looking to adopt a Sphynx cat because you think they are the only type of cat that won’t bother your allergies, you might want to reconsider. Many people adopt these cats because they think they are hypoallergenic, which is not the case—the lack of fur does not make them hypoallergenic. Usually humans’ allergies are secondary to the allergens on cat skin. It is even possible for people to be more allergic to hairless cats than long-haired cats. It is understood that the degree of hairlessness of the Sphynx o kitten/cat varies from cat to cat and Sometimes from season to season. No Sphynx cat is truly completely hairless. Fur on tail, feet, and face is common. Hormones and Genetics play an important role in the degree of hairlessness and even though a kitten may be almost hairless when it is sold, it is possible that the kitten could develop some hair after being neutered/spayed or, as it grows older. It is impossible to guarantee that any Sphynx cat will not grow hair at some point in time. Transition to a new home can be quite stressful to your new kitten. You need to make environmental changes gradually. Keep your new kitten in one room until you sense that he/she is feeling secure (Seller requires a week as this also encourages bonding between you and your kitten. If allowed to roam freely too soon, his/her main interest will be exploring and not bonding). Exploring a new and big area can be very overwhelming to a kitten. As you let your kitten into new areas of the house, it is necessary to provide extra litter boxes to limit “accidents”. As your new kitten learns his/her new surroundings, you will be able to remove these extra boxes. Please do not make any sudden switches to a new kitten’s litter as anything new and unfamiliar may cause your kitten to avoid the litter box. Kittens acclimate to their new surroundings at different paces. While some kittens take a few days to adjust, others may take a few weeks. Seller cannot predict adjustment time, or kitten- owner interaction and bonding, and is therefore not responsible for the kitten bonding or not bonding to the new owner. Lack of bonding or personality issues is beyond the control of the Seller The Seller provides a 72-hour limited health guarantee that the above kitten/cat is in good health at the me of purchase. Kitten should be tested for any parasites at their first vet visit and before being exposed to other pets in your home. Though kittens are dewormed before leaving it is always possible and very common. Seller cannot be held accountable for any bacterial or viral infectious diseases, giardia, parasites, or fungus, due to the fact that these can be contracted anywhere in the environment after leaving the cattery and are not a result of genetics or breeding. Buyer accepts all responsibility for protection of cat from said diseases, illnesses, parasites, and fungi. If kitten/cat is not vet checked within 72 hours of leaving the sellers possession, this contract will become invalid and Buyer will be considered in breach of contract. After 72 hours of the health guarantee period, the Seller cannot be held accountable for future diagnosis of Felv/FIV/FIP. Buyer agrees to keep kitten/cat quarantined for a period of 7 days from other pets. If kitten/cat has not been kept quarantined this contract will be null and void.
