Yoga Day 27 cursor.sicsr.ac.i n /siddharthkhann a 3 Author - Siddhant Khanna (BBA-IT 2018-21 ) I am just out of the Bumpy ride Bandwagon- popularly known as the Teenage. I have been at all its beautiful spots and the messy milestones as well. I have had my bliss moments of this journey and the vertigo stretches as well. This book is not a manual that I claim will solve all your teenage problems. But I am sure it will help you know that you are not the only ones who are facing it. And there are people your kinds who have through their experiences learnt how to get into and get out of the problems associated with it. I can bet my life on this fact that even the most sorted men and women of the world have gone through the ups and downs that this stage of life has to offer. The only far and distant ordinary human that I doubt had teenage issues is probably Adam. But I guess this was because he had no elder one who could have ever dominated him; no peer who could have pressurized him and no one younger whom he could brag to. But don’t forget that as the second human came in contact- he made his first mistake. And since unlike the teenagers after him who kept making mistakes and learning from them; he could never grow out of his first mistake. And the whole male lot is still bearing the burden of it and carrying the Adam’s apple to date. Teenage or for that matter any age bracket comes with its’ challenges to overcome and situations to understand. My mantra to be successful is “Be an observer”. In the chapters that follow you will be able to get the clarity on how to make these precious years of your life the greatest experience and not an intractable cycle of occurrences. Like most of you, I too did not enter teenage with wisdom galore. I fell N number of times, took time to be on my feet again, took pride in the high times, cried in the lows. Tasted 4 fame real early in life, was moved down by the pressure it asserted. But with the grace of the Almighty- fought it out, learnt some lifetime lessons, basked in the warmth of my family’s love and support. One important element in my story has been the non-judgemental attitude of my parents. I was never outlined and opinionated on my shortcomings. I feel my younger sister has a greater stature than me despite being almost six years younger to me. The way she lovingly let go of my silly fights on account of my bossy bigbro behaviour at times will always inspire me to be at my responsible best for her... forever and ever, wherever, whenever and however. Agemates, this book is an attempt to open communication channels with you. I know that we are blamed to have made a start to many a modern-day messes and troubles. But what our parents fail to realize is that majority of those troubles were almost simultaneously called upon by both them and us. To illustrate, let’s see the cyberspace addiction. I am in agreement with the statement that we teenagers are neglecting a lot of other vital experiences and responsibilities for the gadget. But is the life of our parents the same as it was before the advent of the smartphone? I take pride in declaring that this generation is no exception to the previous generations to be able to learn out of observation. Our parents want us to be much fixated on the physical self. Are we not watching their profile pic updation (not to mention photoshopped) the day they feel they look beautiful. Frankly, we have the unadulterated will to follow you, and I am one hundred percent accurate to declare that we follow you. But the mechanism placed in our brains is such that it does not stimulate much action in response to your words, like it stirs us up to match your actions. And to speak the heart out for every fellow teenager, I take this platform to appeal to our parents to stop attempting to be our friends, whether on FB or otherwise. We have outgrown that need on both the podiums. It just embarrasses us. We need strong companions who can both love us despite of our shortcomings and failures and mentor us and show us by way of example to be able to live a peaceful life. CURSOR 5.0 | VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1, JULY 2019 5 Data Science for solving traffic congestion in Pune Author - Rishi parpyani and Reehan Basheer (BCA 2017-20) Pune is one of the most congested city in India and the conditions are deteriorating due to various metro constructions going on in the city. The bottlenecks are increasing in the city which are leading to huge traffic jams. The current traffic signals are based on time -quantum. It is the need of the hour to design a system where the traffic could be efficiently managed . Most of the traffic signals have the video camera installed in them which are constantly monitoring the roads. This existing technology could be exploited to build a modern system which continuously analyses the data collected from the video cameras according to which the new time quantum could be generated. This new time quantum generated could result in less waiting time in traffic signals. The proposed system does not require much cost for building as it is making use of the existing resource. The proposed system will also help in less carbon emission from the vehicles which could be a great benefit for a huge city like pune . Various countries have used technologies such as artificial intelligenceto control the traffic but such technology are expensive as the new system requires a lot of new hardwares . the system described above could be an low cost alternative . This technology can prove to be a boon for the citizens of pune and at the same time a lot of time and cost could be saved. CURSOR 5.0 | VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1, JULY 2019 cursor.sicsr.ac.i n /node/2 9 6 Google chrome vs Brave Author- Aayush Chitransh (BBA-IT 2018-21) Google Chrome gets some 'Brave' competition Google Chrome, the undisputed leader used by over 2 billion people globally for Internet browsing has got some serious competition in the "Brave" browser that automatically blocks third-party ads and cookies, and even offers to pay users when they click and see a promoted or partnered ad securely. Called "Brave", the new browser has begun previewing the new advertising model which promises to funnel 70 percent of earned revenue to users who load up and view the ads. The remaining 30 percent will go to the browser's developers. Participating users would be able to earn around $60 to $70 this year and possibly around $224 in 2020. "Brave Ads remove intermediaries that exploit user data and thrive on surveillance, and instead offer a consent-based system," according to Firefox co-founder and JavaScript creator Brendan Eich who created the browser. "Brave" is the open-source Chromium-based browser that out-ranked Chrome to be the second best after Mozilla Firefox when it came to speed, secure browsing and quick navigation. According to its website, the browser is up to two times faster on desktop and up to eight times faster on mobile then Crome. "Brave" automatically blocks any third-party trackers. Additionally, it can block third-party cookies, block scripts and has secure HTTPS protocol everywhere whichever website you browse. The biggest advantage of the "Brave" browser is that its servers do not see or store your browsing data and one can customize privacy settings unlike in Chrome. cursor.sicsr.ac.i n /aayus h 7 "Brave" also lets you see how many ads and trackers are being blocked daily. It was built specifically as an ad-free experience and has built-in ad-blocking capabilities and anti-tracking technology. Author- Paranjay Bind (BCA 2018-21) Alright, so this is a question that is being thrown around a lot these days. Still, a simple Google search will tell you that this question is never addressed directly and that you can’t find a clear and definite answer to it. There are several articles related to all the different tools and software that you can use, but they are too complicated for a user that’s not so savvy. So in this article, I’m going to provide a direct answer to this question with a novice internet user in mind who can’t be bothered to learn all the specifics and technicalities of internet security. The Internet now is a basic necessity that we need in many ways in our daily lives. In just a few moments, you can find almost anything on the internet through your phone. All the knowledge of the world is literally in your hands. But it’s not limited to “just” that. You can use it to talk with your friends and family, watch movies and serials, read books, and oh, not to forget, buy things too. So with just a few taps on your phone or computer, you can get great entertainment, talk face to face with your family, and buy things from anywhere on the Earth where there’s a mobile signal. The scope of this invention of Tim BernersLee is as near to infinite as anything can be. (Almost too good to be true, eh?) But (there’s always a catch), has mankind ever invented something for good and not used it for bad? As you must know, the answer to this question is “No”. The Internet too is not immune to this nature of humanity. With all its great scope for “good” and its contribution in globalization and in making humans lazy, the Internet also has a great “darker” scope. There are people known as hackers that can gain access to your data through various exploits out there. Even clicking a link that you think leads to an interesting article can be dangerous. If you are too careless, then your personal information like passwords, bank account details, card details, etc can be compromised. But hackers are not the only ones that want your data for their profit. Governments and big companies also covet your data to keep a check on you and to use your data without your explicit permission. Now you know that accessing the internet can be dangerous but still how can you deny all its benefits? So what do you do now? You look for ways to stay safe and secure on the internet. Now, maintaining your privacy and keeping unwanted noses out of your business is not all that hard, even though it may seem like a big and complicated thing. There are several ways that you can use to remain secure depending on the level of security and privacy you want. Here they are categorized by the level of privacyFor Normal Everyday Browsing (recipe for Chicken Biryani) 10 For your normal browsing, you can use the latest version of a secure web browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. But using a good browser is not enough. You also need to be vigilant and keep your ears strained for any threats in the vicinity. • Do not click on any suspicious-looking link. • Never download any file for which you did not intentionally click on the download button. • Do not click on the wrong Download button when downloading files. Before clicking, look around the button for a small and light text “Ad” to know if it’s the wrong or right button. • Do not visit links and download files from any pop-up ads. • Use your common sense and keep away from any schemes like “Double your money” that you may find online. • Do not buy from an online store before looking up for reviews about it elsewhere. • Do not fill in your financial details without being 100% sure that you can trust the website and the portal to keep them secure. • Never sign up for any “free” online service that demands your card or bank details. • Be vigilant on social media and never use it to send sensitive information and documents to ANYONE. • Check if the website you are visiting is secure and has “https” instead of “HTTP” in its URL. Never enter your personal information in a website that does not have “https” in its URL. • Beware of anything that looks suspicious or too good to be true. For Bank Transactions and the Privacy Conscious (Transferring money to your son) You can do secure bank transactions with the previously discussed ways, but those who want an extra layer of security can use browsers like Yandex, Maxthon, Brave, Epic, or Comodo to increase their privacy and reduce their chances of being hacked. These browsers use ways like enforcing https everywhere, deleting cookies, malware checks, proxy servers, etc to keep you more secure. But using these does not guarantee your safety. You ALWAYS need to be vigilant on the internet when surfing it. For the more Skeptic and Complete Anonymity (No one knows who you are) Okay, so to be completely secure and anonymous when accessing the internet, there are a few extra steps that you need to take. The most important is to use the only one browser that does most of the work for you. Use Tor. The granddad of all the privacycentered browsers, it relays your connection through its various nodes across the world before you reach your target website. It has an active developer community and receives regular updates. It’s a must if you are looking for complete anonymity and/or are a whistleblower. Tor’s uses also have a darker side, but that’s neither relevant here nor do you want to be entangled in that web. However, it’s not enough and you still need more security to be completely anonymous on the internet. In addition to Tor, you need a VPN. Now, what is a VPN in simple terms? It stands for “Virtual Private Network”, and that’s exactly what it is. What happens is that when you use a VPN service, then the website you are visiting sees the details of the VPN server instead of yours. This way, the website you visit won’t know anything about you and your location and IP address would be 11 secure. There are several VPN services that you can find, but the best of them are ExpressVPN, IPVanish, NordVPN, TunnelBear, and VyprVPN. Mind you, using free VPNs is not secure as they do not protect your privacy and provide a worse browsing experience and slow speed. So, after you set up and run the VPN, all you have to do is run Tor. Congratulations! Now you are anonymous on the internet and free to browse it as you want. Remember to read the Do’s and Don’ts on the Tor website and follow them. To gain complete security, turn off scripts in Tor and enjoy your anonymity. But this still does not guarantee complete security over the internet. If you are careless and not vigilant enough, you risk losing your anonymity and privacy. Also, by being anonymous on the internet you would be sacrificing your browsing speed, so don’t fret if the web pages are loading slower than what you are used to. Alright, then. I think that’s all that you need to know without going deeper into the more complicated parts, and I hope this article helped you a bit. Feel free to ask any questions that you might have related to Internet security below. Author- Muskan Mehrotra (BCA 2018-21) Don't compare yourself with anyone in this world...if you do so, you are insulting yourself.” ― Bill Gates In the present world ,where right from the titles of songs, carrying on to the contents of phrases and quotations we all say “Be yourself”,Why? Why there’s a need to remind ourselves to be us? Are we not happy with who we really are? In today’s world we are living, not because we love to live, but we need to exist, as, if we loved to live our lives, then, we would have been more satisfied and happy with who we are and didn’t find it a need to impress others by creating a negative image of us. Nowadays, whatever we do is aimed at achieving a certain image in a society or among a group of people. The question here arises, why we want to leave a fake impact of ourselves in others minds rather than a real one? cursor.sicsr.ac.i n /StudentExchangeU K 16 “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” The youth is highly affected by this problem, as, whatever they say and whatever they do is highly influenced by the people they are surrounded by. Generally, they do what the others are interested in, like, wearing kinds of clothes which made them look “cool”, despite the fact that they are uncomfortable in it, they do this to attain a look which others are fond of . In this whole game, we somewhere or the other loose our true personality, our true interests for some human beings who didn’t even care of who we are! “The biggest ingredient in a best friend is someone whose actions you respect and who you can truly be yourself around. “ After losing our true personalities we tend to ask for help mainly from Internet by typing, “How to be yourself?" Is this needed? Like sacrificing ourselves for someone who was a no one in our life. At last, we can say that, being ourselves is more impressive than impressing others. We just need to know what we really are and do what we love to do, rather than being someone what someone else wants , which we are truly blessed with. “I am a rare species, not a stereotype.” ― Ivan E. Coyote CURSOR 5.0 | VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1, JULY 2019 17 The Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology on Employment Author: Dr. Gururaj Mukarambi Assistant Professor, Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research, Introduction In the present scenario, there is a lot of scope for the automation of tasks in all the fields. In view of the current industry observations, the advancement of technology in general and Digitization in particular has the major effects for the employment in the organization. Assessment of its impact will be critical for the analyst to frame policies according to the market situations. That motivates labour markets for the benefit of workers, employers and societies as a whole. The Rapid development of technology can be threatening employment. This kind of idea is not new, but in the year 1930s, when “John Maynard Keynes” said ‘Technological Unemployment Theory’ technological change causes loss of jobs. The advancement of Technology innovations can affect employment in the following ways: 1. By directly shifting workers from tasks (displacement effect) 2. By increasing the demand for labour in industries or jobs that arise, due to Technology progress (productivity effect). Related work In view of the above, the following are the reports/papers found in the literature: Autor, Levy and Murnane (2003) said that technology can replace human labour in routine tasks, whether manual or cognitive, yet to decide. But we cannot replace human labour in non-routine tasks. Manning (2007) said that the impact of technology leads to rising relative demand in wellpaid skilled jobs, which typically require non-routine cognitive skills, and rising relative demand in low-paid, least-skilled jobs, which typically require non-routine manual skills. Darvas and Wolff (2016) report said that the developments for a selection of European Union (EU) countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the UK. In all these countries, the number of high-education jobs such as managers, engineers and health professionals is growing, while the number of middle-education jobs (clerks, machine 18 operators, assemblers) is declining. By the difference, the number of low-education service occupations, such as shop workers, which are non-standard and difficult to replace by automation, is growing. A key conclusion is that technology was incorporated into the subset of core job tasks previously performed by middle-skill workers, causing significant change. The quality of human capital also plays a crucial role. The ability of individuals to use the technological advances for the benefit of their work requires developing particular digital skills through well designed policies. However, looking at present automation and advanced machine-learning techniques is on the way, in which intelligent machines will be increasingly capable of carrying out highskill and possibly non-routine tasks. Moving from the efficiency gains in online trading to the extensive use of artificial intelligent systems in our industrial production, concerns about the potential displacement of labour emerge. The real question then becomes: which of the two labour market effects displacement or productivity will dominate in the artificial intelligence (AI) era. The answer is automation of automobiles in daily life, Food industries and many more examples in the present scenarios. The Economist (2016) reports said that, in general, past industrial revolutions suggest that in the short run the displacement effect may dominate. But in the longer run, when markets and society are fully adapted to major automations, the productivity effect can dominate and have a positive impact on employment. Conclusion The advancement of technology in the AI era is the continuous development of deep machine learning techniques and then it will leads to act as a human brain as a model for design. The Machines are trained to be intelligent enough, which can have additional implications for the workers. References 1. David H. Autor Frank Levy Richard J. CURSOR 5.0 | VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1, JULY 2019 19 Mathematics: A way of Life cursor.sicsr.ac.in /mathematics Author : Mr. Prathamesh Lahande Faculty Member, SICSR In this world, there are three types of people. The first sets of people are those who just love maths. These are the ones that really love numbers, enjoy their lives with mathematics and think that mathematics really makes their lives easier. The Second sets of people are those people who absolutely hate maths and think that their lives become complicated with mathematics. And then there are the rest who are somewhere in between the first type and second type who really could not care about maths. What exactly do you think when you think about Mathematics? If you are like most of the people then your answer would be something like: Numbers, equations, boredom or pain. People think that we won’t need to use the Pythagoras theorem in life, then why learn it? But the broad thinkers personally believe it is much much more than that. Legends have said that the only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics and math is all around us and helps us to understand the world better. A mathematician was once asked by a student “What has maths taught you”. After a long pause, the mathematician replied “Mathematics is all about calculations and these calculations include the basic math operations: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Life teaches us to keep on ‘Adding’ knowledge so that we keep on evolving in our lives. Life teaches us to ‘Subtract’ all the negative thoughts that bring us down. Life teaches us to ‘Multiply’ our energy so we have abundance of it to lead a good life. And lastly life teaches us not to ‘Divide’ ourselves among religion, cast or creed and/or nationality. To learn all these things in life, what better than Mathematics!!”. Ever since childhood we are firstly taught how to count, or learn the English alphabets. Initially we find it interesting but slowly and gradually there is a downfall of liking for it. Here are some of the amazing things that when read or experienced makes us think that “Is it Magic or is it Maths!!!”. The word hundred is derived from the word “Hundrath” which actually means 120 and not 100. The ancient Roman Empire ruled for so many years but forgot to represent zero in Roman Numerals. “Eleven plus two” is an anagram of “twelve plus one” which is pretty fitting as the answer to both equations is 13. Also, there are 13 letters in both “eleven plus two” and “twelve plus one”. How’s that for a coincidence. Here is another one: (6 × 9) + (6 + 9) = 69. In the country Thailand, the number 555 is used as a slang for “HaHaHa” because the word for “Five” is pronounced as “Ha”! The most likable number is 7. Also 7 show a lot in our nature also. We have seven deadly 20 sins, and Seven Wonders of the World. Not to mention colours of the rainbow, pillars of wisdom, seas, dwarves, days in the week. This might be because when these things came about there were celestial bodies visible in the sky (the Sun, the Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn). Also, 7 is an Odd number, but contain the ‘Even’ in its spelling! 'FOUR' is the only number in the English language that is spelt with the same number of letters as the number itself. But the number 4 is considered unlucky in Asia. Many a times the building skips the fourth floor and from 3 they jump directly to 5. This is some superstition! One concluding magic of maths. The number 0.999999... is exactly equal to 1 Proof: Let x=0.9999...Then 10x = 9.9999. 10x-x = (9.9999...) - (0.9999...). Hence, 9x=9. Therefore x=1. Well, haven’t we learnt something new here. Hence to sum up, we are surrounded by numbers and mathematics all around us. And the only way to experience it is to observe our environment, love and embrace it. Hopefully this article will help you see mathematics and numbers in a different way. And lastly one great mathematician quoted “Don’t treat mathematics as a punishment, but a way to exercise our brain”. CURSOR 5.0 | VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1, JULY 2019
