Her mother eulogizes her as a woman who lived with purpose, touched many lives through her kindness, and had a heart that always thought of others. Roselyne was baptized at Radienya Catholic Church. She began her schooling at CPE Angino Primary School in 1972, where she sat for her Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) examination in 1981. She later joined Dudi Girls High School in 1982. --- Roselyne began her career as a Community Health Worker, serving various communities with diligence and dedication. In April 1993, she was appointed as a Church Teacher by Rev. Makori. She was licensed as a Lay Leader in 2005 by Rt. Rev. Hagai Nyang’, and her licence was renewed in November 2017 by Rev. James Ochiel. She was later granted a Special Lay Leader Licence on 4th December 2022 by Rt. Rev. Simon Edward Onyango. In 2016, she joined Mogongo Girls Secondary School as a Matron, a role she faithfully served until her demise. Roselyne also served in the church as a teacher of the Word from 1995 until her passing, demonstrating unwavering commitment to her faith and service to others. --- Roselyne met the love of her life, Remijus Omondi Obala, on 27th November 1984. Their union was blessed with ten children: the late Paul Odhiambo , the late Celestine Atieno , the late Victor Ouma , Gilbert Ouko , the late Sharon Adhiambo , Emmanuel Odoyo , the late Velma Achieng , Maxwell Gitari, and Walter James . The couple renewed their vows in May 1995 at St. Luke Mogongo Anglican Church. Roselyne loved her family deeply and doted on her children. She maintained warm and respectful relationships with her extended family and in-laws. Her passing has left her family and the community deeply saddened; however, even in mourning, they cherish the love, legacy, and precious memories she leaves behind. Mama first showed signs of illness on 25th December 2024 while surrounded by her family. Being strong and hardworking, she did not take the symptoms seriously until July 2025, when her condition worsened. She sought treatment at Jalaram Hospital, where she was admitted and treated for ulcers and malaria. After being discharged, she returned to the same hospital in August 2025 with heavy bleeding. An ultrasound revealed a tumour in the cervix. She was referred to a government hospital for a biopsy. Due to it being a weekend, she returned home, where she fortunately met a doctor who was her neighbour. He facilitated her referral to Homa Bay Hospital, where the biopsy was conducted and samples sent to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). The first biopsy results were disputed, but a second biopsy confirmed that Mama had stage four cancer and required urgent medical attention. She was subsequently referred to KNH. However, they were advised to seek referral elsewhere as some machines had not been functional for several months. Given the advanced stage of the illness, they were referred to Nairobi West Hospital. There, Dr. Mutua reviewed her reports and recommended a PET scan at HCG to assess the extent of the disease before commencing treatment. On 4th November 2025, Mama underwent a PET scan at HCG. After receiving the results, they returned to Dr. Mutua on 13th November 2025. Further tests were requested, including creatinine levels, which were done at Cana Hospital on 17th November 2025. Despite waiting, her condition continued to deteriorate, and on 2nd December 2025, they returned to the doctor due to increasing pain. She was referred for radiotherapy, which commenced shortly thereafter. Chemotherapy was scheduled for 3rd December 2025 but could not proceed due to low blood levels. She was admitted to Cana Hospital for a blood transfusion and later resumed radiotherapy on 9th December 2025. Chemotherapy was successfully administered on 11th December 2025 after her levels stabilized. Further tests later revealed complications affecting her kidneys. Despite continued treatment, Mama became increasingly weak. On 23rd December 2025, after another chemotherapy session, her doctor recommended hospital admission due to dehydration and general weakness. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and on the night of 25th December 2025, she was transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU). Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Mama’s condition continued to decline due to multiple organ failure. She peacefully went to be with the Lord on the evening of 25th December 2025 at 9:40 p.m. 5 elebration o f L ife Celebrating the life and times of ROSELYNE ANYANGO ATIENO Tributes We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mrs. Roselyne Omondi, a devoted and compassionate Matron of Mogongo Girls Secondary School, whose Tribute from Mogongo Girls Secondary School Daughter In-law Tribute from the Sons Tribute from Brothers & Sisters In deep sorrow and exceeding turmoil, my heart is wailing day in day out with grief reflecting the autopsy of thy forgone years.Such a luminous beacon of excellence amalgamated with exemplified character formation.
