He suffered two black eyes, a swollen face, bleeding from the mouth and cuts on his lips. At one point he was partly losing consciousness. He started running and was chased and punched for some distance. The assailants probably all went to Madison High School in Brooklyn. Vinitsky went to Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. Odd as life would have it, Sonnenberg, Vinitsky and Tavis Watson all became NYPD police officers. Watson saw the attack and actually about a year later coincidentally met Vinitsky on the street on Nostrand Ave and about Avenue W in Brooklyn and called him a "pussy". Now the Internal Affairs Bureau of the NYPD is investigating and Watson is a witness. It is very clear that Eric Sonnenberg lied in his interview when he applied to the NYPD. You are supposed to disclose everything in your past and are straight out told if you don't disclose everything and the NYPD later finds out, even decades later you will be fired and you will lose your pension. There is zero chance Sonnenberg would have been accepted to the NYPD if he told the truth. The statue of limitations has run out on the crime of gang assault as a hate crime.
