MACARTHUR HIGH SCHOOL PREVIEW NIGHT AP STATISTICS COURSE SUMMARY The AP Statistics course introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. There are four themes evident in the content, skills, and assessment in the AP Statistics course: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, probability and simulation, and statistical inference. Students use technology, COURSE investigations, problem solving, and writing as they build DESCRIPTION: conceptual understanding. At the end of the school year, students take College Board’s AP Statistics exam. Students who achieve a satisfactory score will usually earn college credit for an equivalent course, but those who still take an introductory statistics class in college will be much better prepared. • Seniors who have previously completed Pre-Calculus • Juniors/Seniors concurrently enrolled in Pre-AP Pre- Calculus WHO? • Students who wish to take another math class and whose college/career path may indicate a potential need for statistics • Solving multi-step equations • Utilizing a variety of technology including web applets and the full features of traditional graphing calculators SKILLS • Applying strict procedures and processes to a variety of NEEDED: situations • Reading critically to discern key information from context • Writing clearly and concisely about math to explain reasoning and justify responses.
