How Does Read-A-Thon Work? Valentine’s Read-A-Thon is a fundraiser designed to encourage a love for reading while raising money for our school! We will put the fun in FUNdraiser with some activities meant to bring together our community virtually during these highly unusual times. Our goal is to have each student read at least 20 minutes per day. Students are also encouraged to track the number of pages and books read during the week and to collect donations in support of their reading efforts. Community-building Activities! Read-alouds, Book Character Dress-up, School-wide books, and more. We miss you and hope to be together while we are apart as we raise FUNds in support of our school. Prizes! Prizes for the most donations collected will be awarded to the top three students: • 1st Place Prize: Membership to Huntington Library and Gardens and Children’s Book signed by San Marino City VIPs commemorating this historic school year • 2 Place Prize: Kindle Digital Reader nd • 3 Place Prize: $50 gift card to San Marino Toy and Book Shoppe rd Overall Prize: The student who reads the most books/pages in a week will win a Kindle Digital Reader and Children’s Book signed by San Marino City VIPs commemorating this historic school year. Due to grade-level book differences, this will be a subjective decision based upon self-reported submissions. Important Dates October 26-30 Students are encouraged to read and track the number of minutes and pages read beginning on October 26. Also send to [email protected] if you would like a chance to be featured in the Yearbook and/or on social media. November 3 Donations and completed Read-A-Thon logs are due. Take a photo of your 3pm completed Read-A-Thon log and email to [email protected]. Be sure to put your Name, Grade, Teacher, Total Pages Read, and Total Books Read in the subject line of your email. Read-a-thon ends on Election Day, and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage rights please join us as we read “Miss Paul and the President.” and “Equality’s Call: The Story of Voting Rights in America.” One lucky attendee will win a children’s t-shirt celebrating suffragette Mabel Ping Hua Lee.
