About Peace One Day Throughout the years, millions of people have been active on Peace Day in every country of the world, and hundreds of organisations have carried out life-saving activities in areas of conflict. You can be part of our ambitious vision for 2025 by sharing our message, working with us for long term change or providing sponsorship and resources for our campaign activities. In 2016 it is estimated that 2.2 billion people were exposed to the Peace Day message, 940 million were fully aware of the day, resulting in around 16 million behaving more peacefully (McKinsey & Co). Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalise Peace Day 21 September, making it a day that is self-sustaining, an annual day of global unity, a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known. Page 1 About Peace One Day Support from the United Nations Founded in 1999 by filmmaker Jeremy Gilley, Peace One Day is a non-profit organisation that successfully led the campaign which resulted in the unanimous adoption by United Nations member states of the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed calendar date - 21 September, Peace Day. Ceasefire and Vaccinations in Afghanistan To prove the day can work, Jeremy and Peace One Day Ambassador Jude Law travelled to Afghanistan to spear- head a campaign that, over the years, has resulted in over 4.5 million children being vaccinated against polio in hitherto unreachable areas, as a result of Peace Day agreements in the region. Campaigning Peace starts with individual action. Through our initiatives, Peace One Day continues to encourage organisations and individuals to take specific actions to reduce violence. Peace One Day utilises different tools to raise awareness and advo- cate for Peace Day. Peace One Day aims to make 3 billion people aware of Peace Day as part of our vision 2025. Education Peace One Day Education aims to inspire a new generation to be the driving force behind the creation of a united and sustainable world. Each year Peace Day 21 September is celebrated by an ever-increasing number of students and schools, committed to making a positive impact in their own communities and the wider world. To date, our reach and experience in the field of education includes: • #PeaceDay193 In 2019 Peace One Day, for the first anti-bullying, the United Nations and great peacemakers time ever, we will record young people committing to and have been accessed by over 21,000 educators and Peace Day across all 193 UN Member States. Page 2 About Peace One Day #Cybernonviolence We know that Cyber and Online Violence affects the mental health and wellbeing of children, adults and families alike; bullying harassment, revenge - a global pandemic. On Peace Day 21 September 2019 we want to decrease online hate speech, racism, bullying, ridicule. We want a decrease in violent language and an increase in peaceful communication. By measuring online language globally, our campaign will demonstrate behavioural change in the cyber world. Partnerships & Coalitions Institutionalising Peace Day and making it self-sustaining is everyone’s legacy. That is why we have created and lead a range of global coalitions each encompassing a different sector of society, such as; The Partnership for Peace Coalition. By bringing together organisations committed to action on Peace Day, we can encourage best practice and a more integrated approach, thereby maximising awareness. Corporations The Corporate sector has been crucial in helping Peace One Day achieve its aims. Peace One Day has worked in a variety of exciting ways with a range of corporations, help- ing to raise awareness of and inspire action on Peace Day. For example, Unilever implemented their hugely successful ‘Axe Peace’ campaign across 50 countries, with a TV commercial premiering at the Super Bowl half time - the campaign reached an estimated 600 million people with the Peace Day message. Burger King implemented their global McWhopper campaign that saw them achieve $138M USD in earned media and close to a 40% increase in Peace Day awareness across the US. Awareness creates Action. Action saves Lives. Page 3 About Peace One Day Social Media for Social Good Jeremy Gilley has embarked on a new journey, using his 20-years of global experience to design and launch Impact Profile - the Social Media App that will inspire and empower a worldwide community of users to make a positive impact and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - 17 goals dealing with the most pressing issues we face as a global community. Impact Profile is an ethical and safe tool that harnesses technology for good. It provides a central destination for individuals wishing to measure and showcase their own social contribution and impact, thereby inspiring others to do the same. Peace One Day are proud to announce that Impact Profile’s Pilot Programme has been completed with tremendous success. People from 6 continents, representing 52 countries and 29 different universities took part. Their input, dedication and commitment have provided an incredible data set which will allow us to develop and improve the application for future releases. Our special thanks to Milbank, AWS and Professor Kalypso Nicolaïdis, the Oxford University sponsor of Impact Profile. Their knowledge, insight and experience have been essential to this stage of the development. Social Media Peace One Day recognises the importance of social media as a key tool in institutionalising Peace Day 21 September. We maintain an active social media presence that allows us to connect and engage with our supporters, help raise awareness and inspire action, and amplify the efforts of others to create a more peaceful and sustainable world. We have a combined following of over 700,000. Film We have used film as a key tool to raise awareness and campaign for Peace Day. The journey to create a Peace Day started as a feature film, Peace One Day, and the award-winning documentary The Day After Peace documented Peace One Day’s efforts to create a ceasefire in Afghanistan. Increasingly, Peace One Day’s film output is focused on viral media, all of which is an integral part of Peace One Day’s work to institutionalise Peace Day.
