We chose a library theme because libraries are places where we dig up the truth about the past to help us remake a better future. 👑 The Timeline — The Crown At the very top of the door, a five-step timeline traces how Dr. Carter G. Woodson turned a single week of study into a global month of celebration — a legacy now one hundred years in the making. 1915 ASNLH Founded 1926 Negro History Week begins 1976 President Ford recognizes Black History Month 1986 Congress makes it official 2026 100th Anniversary! 📚 The Interactive Bookcase Our shelves are filled with history you can actually touch. Each layer tells a different part of the story. Student-Authored Spines: Each student chose a "Future-Maker" from African American history — ranging from early pioneers like Phillis Wheatley to modern icons like Barack Obama. Every spine on the shelf was designed and colored by a member of this class. ✦ The Content: Open any of the antique-style books to find key facts about how these individuals changed the world, alongside a "Think About It" question designed to spark a conversation between the reader and the history. ✦ The Founders: On the first shelf, we honor Dr. Carter G.
