Hornets United Community Service Scholarship The Hornets United Community Service Scholarship recognizes student s who ha ve demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others and supports their ongoing growth as community leaders. Preference will be given to students who se involvement contributed to the Booker T. Washington community and who plan academic work in areas of study that will to develop their ability to effect positive social change and the advancement of their greater community Scholarship deadline for submission is May 15th, 2023. Copies may be completed online or scanned, saved as PDF and emailed to info@hornetsunited.org Provide any scholarship-specific addend a to the application form. 1. Submit current transcript and ACT and/or SAT scores if available. 2. Submit 2 letters of recommendation , one of which must be from a teacher, counselor or principal from Booker T. Washington, and the second should be from someone who is familiar with yo ur volunteer work. Th at may also be a teacher, but could be someone from the community. 3. Include an essay of no more than 500 words addressing the role of community service in your life to date and your goals for future service. 4. Include a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA If FAFSA has not been completed please provide a statement as to the circumstances. Other notes: The application and essay must be completed by the student. Applications should be electronically submitted in one email that includes all documents. Please send the application to info@hornetsunited.org Scholarship winners will be required to complete and return a scholarship acceptance form providing necessary information about their school of choice prior to scholarships being paid. Award recipients will either be recognized at their high school awards assembly or be notified directly by Hornets United by May 31st. Please direct any questions to Hornets United at info@hornetsunited.org Award: Scholarship(s) in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded annually Half will be distributed first semester, and half will be distributed second semester. Funds can be used for any costs listed on the bursar account, including tuition, fees, books, dorm or meal plan. Funds are disbursed directly to the Bursar’s office at the institution the recipient chooses, upon evidence of enrollment in an eligible institution, in the beginning of each semester. Demonstrated financial need and the impact education will have on the individual’s life will be considered, along with sincere demonstration of how involvement in community service has contributed to the quality of the student 's life and to the greater comminty. Washington High School in Tulsa, OK. •The student has demonstrated dedication to community service. •The student is attending or planning to attend college/universit y. • The student is not related to a member of the selection committee.
