September 23, 2023 XXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXX Dr . Andrew Smith PhD Lecturer X University To the admissions officer, Today, I am honored to recommend John Sakib for matriculation into the Masters of Science (Software Engineering) program at The University Of Z. I am currently a lecturer at the University of X and a senior lecturer at the University Of Y, holding a doctorate from the University Of X. It has been a pleasure knowing John for the past two years. I was his lecturer and unit coordinator in the courses ELEC5619 (Object Oriented Frameworks) and ELEC5618 (Software Quality Engineering). Furthermore, I was also his honors supervisor, where he conducted research and presented a novel solution targeting an area of research. Firstly, John completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Software Engineering, achieving a Hon- ours Class I (First Class) result. I would rank him in the top 5-7% of his Software Engineering cohort. John distinguished himself through his comprehensive understanding of advanced-level coursework, academic curiosity, drive, and passion to challenge the boundaries of his knowledge. He has displayed exceptional performance and a deep understanding of software engineering theory and practice in both courses he undertook during my supervision and in his final research thesis, solidifying his suitability for the MSc program at Z. He is a member of the Blofeldt Scholar program, which allows high-achieving junior students to take higher-level coursework. He took my units during his second year of univer- sity. These units are targeted towards final year and masters level students. He has excelled in both subjects, scoring 87/100 and 80/100, which is extremely impressive as a junior attempting senior-level coursework. John is a highly intelligent, resourceful, hardworking, and passionate individual, these traits are reflected in all of his coursework and assignment submissions, both of which are of exemplary quality. His final project in ELEC5619 is a testament to his deep understanding of software engineering tools, methods and frameworks. During this course, he has demonstrated an advanced understanding of modern devel- opment frameworks, such as Spring Boot, software design patterns, and software testing techniques. He has applied these tools to solve real-world problems, such as addressing loneliness during the Covid-19 pandemic. What distinguishes him from the rest of his cohort is his unwavering dedication to the field of software engineering and his studies, always going above and beyond the syllabus expectations and testing the boundaries of his skill set, and manifesting a deep passion for the field of study where he has shown both depth and breadth in absorbing complex engineering concepts. At a scholarly level, John would make a fine addition to the MSc of Software Engineering program at Z University. During our interactions, he has displayed the utmost professionalism in his written and oral conduct. One of his standout strengths is his lateral and critical thinking abilities. He made this evident during his undergraduate thesis project, where he identified gaps in existing literature regarding blockchain-based health-care platforms and produced an entirely novel solution to address gaps in ex- isting literature. John applied the skills and knowledge he gained throughout his undergraduate studies to develop a proof of concept application that utilizes Optimism, a layer two side-chain to demonstrate that it is financially feasible to operate health-care applications at scale. John’s vivacity to learn new skills and technologies was expressed when he purposely picked a challenging under-researched topic. With minimal guidance and supervision, he learnt new technologies such as Solidity, developed a com- prehensive understanding of the blockchain and applied his software development knowledge to add his own unique contribution to the research topic. His capacity to be proactive in his education ensures his success in graduate studies. John has high emotional intelligence, is well-disciplined, inquisitive, and charismatic, displaying these traits in formal and informal settings. His ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams positions him in the correct trajectory to succeed in graduate studies at Z University, where I am confident he will interact with academics from various backgrounds and disciplines. He is highly invested in his education, always being present and attending tutorials or lectures, and contributes his unique perspective wherever possible. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness John’s academic journey. His robust technical skill set, intellectual curiosity, grit, and hunger to push the boundaries of his capabilities prove with certainty that he will make a strong and well-rounded student in the Software Engineering Programme at Z University. I wholeheartedly endorse his application and wish him the best of success in his future academic and professional endeavors. I am confident that after attending the MSc program at Z University, John will make significant contributions to software development in whichever path he chooses, academic or professional.
