Job Description – Clinical Associate START DATE: Ongoing until filled REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical Services LOCATION: 1300 Carling Avenue, Suite 209, Ottawa, ON K1Z 7L2 HOURS OF WORK: Variable. Evening and weekend work may be required. MANDATE OF SERVICE: Men & Healing (M&H) provides individual, couple and group psychotherapy to men and their families. M&H operates as an interdisciplinary team that embraces a male-centered, trauma- competent model of engagement and community service. M&H stands on three pillars of service: Male-Centred Therapy Expertise in Trauma Emotional integrity Version: June 2019 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Psychotherapy Services: Provides professional psychotherapy services to individuals and groups, including assessment and treatment. Provides referrals, additional resources and collateral information for clients, as required. May correspond with third parties on case issues on an as-need basis. May provide advocacy services on behalf of a psychotherapy client. 2. Support Work Attends monthly group clinical supervision meetings with our consulting psychologist. Attends M&H staff meetings and professional development meetings. Seeks case direction as appropriate on issues of both individual and group practice from the Clinical Manager. Meets regularly with Manager and other meetings as required. 3. Administration and Clinic Duties Completes all requirements related to data-collection, file recording and maintenance within one’s practice. Attends to all billing and financial matters concerning one’s practice. Maintains accurate files, case records and statistical data as required by the agency. Prepares project reports, under direction of the program director. Completes administration duties as required for agency and personnel records. Participate in internal committees on an as-need basis. Other duties as required. STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS I. Education & Knowledge Completion of a C. Psych., Masters in Social Work (MSW), Masters in Counselling or equivalent degree. II. Experience Minimum of five years’ experience of direct psychotherapy working with males with issues. concerning complex trauma, rage and violence, and emotional integrity, among other areas of expertise. Note: Couple counselling experience is a definite advantage. Note: Group therapy facilitation is a definite advantage. III. Knowledge Demonstrated knowledge of risk factors and risk assessment. Demonstrated knowledge of resources and services available to clients. Demonstrated knowledge of professional standards and ethical guidelines for social workers and psychotherapists. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by people related to mental health challenges. Version: June 2019 IV. Skills Demonstrated excellence in communication skills (written and verbal). Demonstrated skills in working as member of a team and within a team approach. Demonstrated skills in working with diverse groups of people. Demonstrated assessment skills. Demonstrated skills in analysis of individuals and systemic issues impacting clients. Languages Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required. VII. Physical Demands Psychotherapy services are provided in an office setting. The position requires a minimal amount of physical activity, such as lifting. The services are primarily provided sitting down, or standing for group/community programming. VIII. Working Conditions Psychotherapy services are provided in private confidential office space. Limited travel may be required when relevant to the location of the services provided. IX. Certification/Licensing/Specialized Training Must be a member in good standing with a regulated health college as per current standards for practicing social work or psychotherapy (i.e. CRPO, OCSWSSW). Professional liability insurance and a police records check are also required for this position. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Fluency in French is an asset. Fluency in other languages is an asset.
