Shajuti Hossain – Public Advocates, San Francisco Shajuti will discuss how Islam calls everyone to stand up for justice, how it led her to work for housing justice with Public Advocates, and how policies that protect tenants and support affordable housing, will help reroute the Bay Area to a more inclusive and prosperous future. Rabbi Jonathan Prosnit – Congregation Beth Am, Los Altos Rabbi Jonathan wi ll speak on the importance of social justice within the Jewish tradition and how that can be tied into addressing housing justice issues. Michael Pappas, M.Div. – San Francisco Interfaith Council Michael will discuss the work San Francisco Interfaith Council has accomplished on rallying faith communities in creating affordable housing communities for those who have been displaced by gentrification, as well as the SFIC’s work on helping Senator Scot t Wiener design SB - 899. Anitra Winder – Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley Anitra will address how , through Habitat’s Home Preservation initiatives, its Home Repair Programs build racial equity by pr oviding critical repairs and upgrades that prevent the displacement of low - income and marginalized homeowners. Micaela Connery – The Kelsey , San Jose + San Francisco Micaela will discuss affordable housing needs of people with disabilities and the value of interdependent communities. Break - Out Session Speakers – Part 2 : Stephanie Demos – HomeFirst, San Jose Stephanie will engage those who attend her break - out session on how to compassionately approach those that are homeless, ensuring that they are humanized and treated with dignity. Karen Leslie Hernandez – Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley In her break - out session, Karen will share ideas on how to engage different faith communities with respect to, and with an understanding of, the cultural context of their faith, as well as how to engage faith communities in more volunteer and advocacy opportuniti es around affordable housing Zarina Kiziloglu – Housing Commissioner, City of Pleasanton Zarina will lead a session on how to successfully engage faith communities to create more affordab le housing opportunities while addressing xenophobia and NIMBY culture, as well as challenge participants to create communities of change. Robert Stromberg – Destination Home, Santa Clara County The Destinat ion: Home Housing Ready Communities i nitiative, brings together neighbors, community groups, nonprofits, government and housing developers to take action for policy reform, and urgently needed supportive housing and extremely low income affordable housing to end and prevent homelessness in Santa Clara County.
