I would like to congratulate the District Vocational Service Team for a wonderful Sky Rocker Rotary Year - 2020-21 under the leadership of the Director Rtn. Dr. Radhakrishna P M. The Jnana Vaividya - Vocational Diversity Speaker Series which was initiated by the District Vocational Team with Rotary Bangalore Whitefield Central as the lead Club, was a great success. The weekly series, with its diversity of speakers provided knowledgeable and insightful content which helped boost the morale of Rotarians. This program was a boon to many clubs when the speakers motivated members which in turn increased participation of within the clubs in Bangalore as well as outside Bangalore. It also gave an opportunity for collaborations between the clubs during the lockdown period. The speakers of the program, were honored for their contribution in their respective fields which encouraged many to contribute more to the society. I would like to recognize the efforts of President Rtn. Manoj Kabre and his team for the wonderful coordination between the participating Clubs which ensured this program reached maximum members. Kudos to the entire team. Warm Regards Thank you Rtn. Nagendra Prasad B L District Governor, 20-21 RI District 3190 Page | 3 PA Foreword from District Vocational Services Counsellor (2020-21) It is said “Knowledge is Power; Information is Liberating; Education is the gateway of Progress – in every family; even in every Society”. True to the saying here was a program that brought in information to educate us, on the success of extra ordinary Knowledge some had cultivated. Here was a program that showcased how we could find opportunity in each challenge – the challenge here was the pandemic and the disruption it had caused. ‘Jnana Vaividya’ was a simple but brilliant concept – to showcase work of some of the extra ordinary achievers in different vocations, in their own words & experience sharing. The idea was conceived but the next step was to finalise a theme, to get some focus & flow of program, as a series of talks. Once the broad concept of an interesting theme was finalised it took lot of interactions; talking with many in Rotary and out of Rotary; discussing amongst the committee and talking to the recipients of our Invitation; finalise the dates and title of the subject – it was a daunting task but the taste of the pudding is in eating. So much so the speaker series was formally started off on the 5th August 2020 and the first set of 12 week series saw huge success with more than 1000 Rotarians; Rotaractors participating and getting inspired by different vocational aspects & accomplishments of a few extra ordinary achievers. An outcome of this program was launch of you tube channel under the same name ‘Jnana Vaividya’ – making it available again for those interested. The response of the participants and the enthusiasm of the Vocational service team – made the committee to launch the second edition of the program extending the program to another 8 episodes and as a result several ideas; programs were born because of this well executed initiative ‘Jnana Vaividya’ in our Rotary District 3190. It would be appropriate to recognise the support extended by District Governor 2020-21 Rtn Nagendra Prasad; Dist Vocational Service Director Dr Radhakrishna and continued efforts of RBWC President 20-21 Rtn Manoj Kabre; RBWC Director Rtn Rajaram and many – who made this series ‘Jnana Vaividya’ a valuable gift to many Rotarians & family during this testing times. I have great pleasure in joining the team to present this book "Vocational Opportunities for a Greener World" – excerpts of the twenty sessions we had under Jnana Vaividya series. Rtn K.S.Nagendra Past Governor 2013-14, Vocational service Counsellor 2020-21 RI District 3190. Page | 4 PA Foreword from District Vocational Services Director (2020-21) When we started the Rotary year 2020-21 we were in the midst of first covid wave. The lockdown and restricted movement opened an opportunity for us to explore possibilities of doing on-line projects under vocational service avenue. One such project is Jnana Vaividya. One of the core values of Rotary being diversity, District Vocational Service Team along with Rotary Bangalore Whitefield Central conceptualized Jnana Vaividya Project on online platform – which stands for Exploration of Knowledge Diversity. The project is all about hosting a weekly TedX type knowledge sharing event by an expert of international fame followed by question & answer session. We also implemented a unique plan of inviting other Rotary clubs not only from District 3190 but also from other districts & countries, Rotaract clubs, Lions clubs to participate in this series as GUEST clubs. The team also made sure of selecting the topic which is part of new knowledge era & has positive contribution to protecting the environment & reducing use of fossil fuels, leading to new-normal vocational path, or practices or setting up of community based microenterprises helping youth & women. The series implemented in two legs saw twenty different knowledge areas and on an average attendance of more than hundred. Some of the concepts discussed also took a shape of a dedicated group formation, with members committing on reduction of use in electrical power & shared results of their actions; formation of two women based microenterprises exclusively for assembling solar appliances in Mulbagal & Ramnagar hosted by Rotary Mulbagal Central and Silkcity Ramnagar clubs. We have also seen active discussion & possibility of implementing natural farming technology using SPNF method in the near future. After seeing these positive impacts the team thought of putting together all the learnings, possible opportunities and relevant links along with profile of invited speakers in the form of this book. The idea is to share this wealth of knowledge among Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and friends of Rotary in coming years with an intention of inspiring readers develop projects or choose newer type of vocations which would help greening the globe. I should say THANKS to District Governor Rtn.Nagendra Prasad, District team on Vocational Service, RCB Whitefield Central team lead by President Manoj Kabre, speakers, and the audience to make one of the memorable project of my life. Best wishes!! Rtn. Dr Radhakrishna P M District Vocational Service Director 2020-21 Rotary International District 3190 Page | 5 PA Foreword from President, RBWC (2020-21) Rotary truly Opens Opportunities. This was evident during the start of the Rotary Year 2021-22, when Covid had gripped us all and we Skyrocker Presidents were grim about how the year would pass, when physical presence in the community would be a challenge. The guidance and inspiration from our Vocational Service Director Rtn.Dr.Radhakrishna, and the support of our beloved DG Rtn.Nagendra Prasad, did the trick. Just initiated as a small idea, Jnana Vaividya was an outcome of this collaboration – a speaker series curated to bring in diverse vocation leaders from various parts of the country and abroad, who would give a talk for about 40 minutes to the Rotary audience. The subjects were carefully crafted and then a lookout for the leading do-ers in these field began. A systematic approach to finalizing the speakers and the programme format was accomplished by our Vocational Service Director Rtn.Rajaram, and this speaker series was launched on 5th Aug.2020. During the 12-week series, we were able to successfully disseminate information about diverse vocations to 1000 + Rotarians / Rotaractors and Friends of Rotary, across the world. The sessions were widely appreciated by everyone, which led to also launching of a YouTube channel ‘Jnana Vaividya’. As the Covid-second wave hit us all, a suggestion was floated by Dr.Radhakrishna of attempting a second edition for this speaker series. This too was embraced by our club Rotary Bangalore Whitefield Central (RBWC). Two of our new members Rtn.Smita Kulkarni and Rtn.Shekar Hariharan came forward to help with supporting Rtn.Rajaram, and there was a bigger team to run the Second edition of Jnana Vaividya. With an excellent support from the District IT team led by Rtn.Devadasan and Rtn.Vacchan, for facilitation the District Zoom connection as well as the circulation of invite for various weeks, the entire programme has been a great learning experience for all of us at RBWC. This platform allowed us to connect with 100+ clubs including Inner Wheel and Lions clubs in addition to our own Rotary and Rotaract clubs. As a next step, we plan to launch projects inspired by these talks, under the banner ‘Jnana Vaividya Yojana’ where two-three clubs can collaborate and execute the projects. Jnana Vaividya ‘opened opportunities’ for us to ‘serve to change lives’ ! Sincere gratitude to our District Governor and District 3190 Vocational Service Team. Manoj Kabre President (20-21) Rotary Bangalore Whitefield Central www.rotarybwc.org Page | 6 PA Foreword from Director Vocational Services, RBWC (2020-21) As a Vocational service director of the Rotary Bangalore Whitefield Central (RBWC) it is my great honour to be a part of this Jnana Vaividya vocational service talk series. This idea was very well thought by the able leadership of District 3190 Vocational Service Director Rtn. Dr. Radhakrishna PM and RBWC President Rtn. Manoj Kabre. Vocational service is one of the pillars of Rotary. Jnana Vaividya, as the name described, we had planned to invite 12 accomplished professionals from various diverse fields to talk about their vocation and the associated opportunities in their field. Every bit of the program was well planned and associated theme was created by selfless volunteers. A well aligned logo is very much essential for successful communication of the theme. Mr. Bhavin Shah designed an excellent logo which depict that diverse people coming together as a team and sharing the knowledge. Mr. Yash Arora & Mr. Ramesha created required colleterials which made this event very professional. My sincere thanks with gratitude for their selfless service. Though the pandemic restricted and confined us to our home, it could not stop Jnana Vaividya from bringing the great accomplished professionals from across the world to our home. I don’t think this could have been possible even in pre-pandemic days. Due to overwhelming support and response received from Rotary clubs across the word, and friends of Rotary, Rtn. Dr. Radhakrishna suggested to re-start the Jnana Vaividya with another 8 more eminent speakers, and it was very well supported by Rtn Smitha Kulkarni and Rtn Shekar Hariharan. This booklet is Jnana Vaividya’s compiled synapsis of all the 20 speakers’ wisdom. We hope this will help all of us to understand these professions better and utilize their knowledge in community improvement and empowerment. Based on your interest you can visit the respective speaker talk in the Jnana Vaividya YouTube Channel Once again, my sincere thanks to DG Rtn. Nagendra Prasad, District Vocational Service Director Rtn. Dr. Radhakrishna PM and RBWC President Rtn Manoj Kabre and all the RBWCians and all the guest clubs who supported and made it a great success. Rtn. With reference to hobby for teenagers, young people and even elders activities that can be taken up are making paper model rockets as educational tool & understand what rockets are made of; developing model rockets as a school project, setting up low cost spacetech lab to attract young minds into excitement of space technology & nurture few budding rocket engineers; being part of Amateur radio clubs through Ham radio operation using satellite links – dedicated communication channel, which will be handy during disasters like tsunami and floods; astro-photography to capture milky way, movement of earth on its axis, movement of asteroids; simulation learning of launching satellites through gaming with thorough technical validation of every steps & moves. Getting involved professionally in spacetech can be seen through vibrant ecosystem of startups prevailing in this space, including those who are trying to make private satellite makers, developing various applications in the front end for use of the society. In fact tools like satellite telephony, GPS have transformed the world in terms of providing service at door steps through swiggy, zomato, uber, neighborhood ATMs and many more applications have brought in improved productivity in many sectors. There are huge investments by Amazaon, Bharati Airtel in starting/ acquiring ventures for large scale building communication satellites & rocket launching services which will make dream of connecting anybody from anywhere, be it in airplane high in the sky or ship in the midst of ocean a reality. Satellites have positioned itself as “eye in the sky” and the applications are never ending, to name a few; attending broken down car in a remote place; attending to surgery remotely; mapping agri field of farmers over a period of time to assess his credit worthiness, assessing air pollution, helping fishermen to locate the catch, climate changes, utilization, preservation & helping build natural resources etc. Page | 9 PA Opportunities for New Age Vocations & projects for good of the community Following are some of the opportunities for Rotarians to use the learnings • Spacetech labs in schools • Promote space photography & simulation rocketry as hobbies • Use satellite data to plan community economic development projects – with examples like lake rejuvenation, afforestation, assisting farmers to choose the crop for the season, disaster management etc. • To add one of the new items in Career Guidance & Counselling by vocational service team Where can I find more information Here are some of additional resources where you can find more information • Exclusive space podcast platform focusing on India: https://www.newspaceindia.com – a exclusive space podcast platform focusing on India • Telegram group: https://telegraph/New-Space-India • Indian amateur radio satellite program http://amsatindia.org • Paper scale models: https://www.axmpaperspacescalemodels.com • Building spacetech lab: https://www.rocketeers.in Speakers Bio Page | 10 PA Live event held on August 12, 2020. Season 1 | Episode 3|Digital Marketing Abstract and Key learning The trends are very clear, traditional marketing methods has to give way to digital marketing as it provides superior customer engagement and at the same time provide higher return on the investment to the marketers. This is going to happen just similar to disruptive innovations happened some time back with products (e.g. iPhone redefining the product, while competitors Nokia, Samsung were nowhere near the point of explosion!) and services (e.g. Uber establishing its own market understanding unmet need of the customer vis-à-vis largely unorganized taxi segment). The innovative digital marketing system is going to hit us like tsunami especially during post-covid scenario, catalyzing seamless collaboration between online platform & strong communication with backend offline physical stores. However, the retailer and B2C companies would be wondering how this new model would ensure higher return on investment. Actually digital marketing’s strength comes from the fact that newer technologies available under its command can track & measure impact of all the ad campaign whether it is billboard, print, television, social media, chabots, phone, video or physical visit to showroom (through tools like QR scanner, cloud telephony, foot fall tracking etc.). Not just measuring it can integrate all data available & connect to prospective customer and steeply increase chances of lead converting to sale. Page | 14 PA The three things that plays a key role in this digital technology intervention are 1. Good integration of online to offline system 2. Search engine optimization across all lead generating points 3. Content of the advertisement both from substance & creativity point of view. The major ad campaigns which used to be addressing millions of people earlier are going to become one million personalized ad campaigns in the new post-covid era. The high success rate is assured because of collaborative approach which gets initiated by the personalized campaign & integrated data accumulation about the customer choices & interest followed by follow-up communication with customer. This kind of seamless aisle experience has brighter chances of acquiring customer and getting him back next time for cross sales. During the talk three case studies were also presented which included transformation of a retail chain stores of electric & electronic goods, retail chain stores of multiple goods and Mobile App campaign for a bank. The presentation was followed by interesting Question & Answer session which provided more clarity on the power of digital marketing in creating superior customer engagement and can make the marketers win the game! Season 1 | Episode 4 – SPNF Technology Abstract and Key learning Agroecology is farming that “centers on food production that makes the best use of Nature’s foods and services while not damaging these resources”. Agriculture as a vocation will be a success, when one understands : ● Nature has been naturally sequestering a critical mass of carbon-dioxide in the soil and forests for millions of years. ● In nature, there is already nitrogen and carbon cycle which has kept the planet cool and sustainable for millions of years Subhash Palekar Natural Farming (SPNF), formerly known as Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) ● Is a holistic alternative to present paradigm of high cost chemical or organic inputs-based agriculture practices and ● Is a practise that is resilient to the negative and uncertain impacts of climate change SPNF - A FARMER MOVEMENT ● SPNF/ZBNF principles are in sync with the principles of Agroecology, a world-wide movement. ● Its greatest strength is that, it is based on the latest scientific discoveries in Agriculture, and, is rooted in Indian tradition. 4 Wheels of SPNF : Page | 17 PA ● Beejamritha - Microbial seed coat ● Jeevamritha (JVM) - Microbial culture for boosting and sustaining health of soil ● Mulching - Soil cover using Straw, Soil or Live crops to create a microclimate for microbes ● Waaphasa - Proper aeration at the root zone of crops to enhance nutrient uptake and fight diseases Why SPNF? - from farmer perspective Aids farmers to mange their farms and crops ● By better management of natural resources (soil, water, solar energy) ● Produce more with less, while increasing resilience ● Produce more crop with less drops (90% savings in Palekar 5 layer fruit model) Why SPNF? - minimizes cost of cultivation ● Eliminate usage of chemical fertilizers & pesticides ● Eliminates or minimizes usage of organic inputs like Farm Yard Manure (FYM) ● No other external organic inputs such as vermicompost, biofertilizers are needed or allowed Opportunities for Rotarian Projects SPNF Karnataka volunteer strength is very minimal, but our strength is in training and hand holding farmers practically in their fields to successfully implement SPNF. We have successfully done this last year with more than 40 farmers across Karnataka districts. With Rotarians at various district level, we would like to build SPNF farmer community (AP ZBNF implementation has been very successful) . This community would include primarily small and marginal farmers, both rain-fed and irrigated lands. This will help the community build a bio-diversified produce which can lead to successful marketing of their produce directly to consumers.. Not much funding is required, minimal fund to cover seed cost, saplings, community cow-rearing and preparation of SPNF related microbial concoctions and astras (herbal pesticides). Buying the produce or setting up a market for the poison free food produced, is another place where Rotarians can contribute, to make the program me more motivating for participating farmers..An idea, this poison free food could be consumed by the respective district level Rotarians Where can I find more information • https://www.youtube.com/subhashpalekarkrushi • About SPNF Karnataka : o ● www.youtube.com/spnfkarnataka o ● www.spnfkarnataka.org o ● http://spnfkarnataka.blogspot.com Page | 18 PA Speaker’s Bio Page | 19 PA Live event held on September 02, 2020. Season 1 | Episode 5|Modern Agriculture Technologies – Part 1 Abstract and Key learning The talk focused on modern agriculture technologies - unique autonomous irrigation and climate controlled precise sustainable system – AutoAgronom (AA). This system addresses the following questions in modern irrigation: ● When to irrigate (every hour every day maybe few times a week?) ● How much to irrigate ( 2 or 5 mm., 1 or less than an hour?) ● When to fertilize? ● How much to fertilize? ● What kind of fertilizers to use and which formula of proportion to use? ● The company's Root Sense technology "listens" to the plants, analyzes their needs in real time, and automatically delivers water and fertilizer, providing optimal growth conditions throughout the growing cycle. This is done by measuring chemical and physical changing on the roots zone and by using special algorithms. One of the important parameters guiding the system considerations is the availability of oxygen to the roots. Oxygen availability is the most important parameter in irrigation and fertilization. AutoAgronom (AA) has developed an exclusive technology for calculating availability (registered as a patent). The method has been tested in over 13 countries and over 80 different crops in fields in greenhouses in the soil and in a soilless substrate. These tests have shown that the system saves water, fertilizer (at least 30%), prevents salinization of the soil and contamination of aquifer. And most importantly, it increases the yield by twice and shortens the growing time. All this is obtained because of complete optimization of irrigation and fertilization and giving optimal conditions to the roots 24 hours a day. The irrigation method is mainly capillary, giving Page | 20 PA short pulses at low flow according to the requirements of the root. When we are irrigating once or twice a day, the level of the availability of oxygen is during short time, only 2 % of the day. Most of the time there is lack of of dissolved oxygen or because too much water (tensiometer reeds low) and in saturation the inlets of the air to the roots are blocked , or lack of water then we cannot have dissolved oxygen. In AA system, the level of the availability of oxygen to the roots is high 24/7. AA capillary water movement Traditional gravity water movement Opportunities for New Age Vocations & projects for good of the community Following are some of the opportunities for Rotarians to use the learnings • Establishment of colleges to accelerate the training of those with a degree in agriculture or biology or otherwise, to be managers and entrepreneurs of agricultural projects, for food security of the state by accompanying and continuous training of the farmer to improve the family's income and quality of life, based on Israeli knowledge Give the support from Israel to the group. • Update the group in new agricultural Israelian technology Where can I find more information fo Here are some of additional resources where you can find more information • Success stories in Israel and around the world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBxOlN57epQ or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-kj0jjYrf8 • How the Technology of A.A. system works https://youtu.be/g4XPRGfMb4A Page | 21 PA Speaker’s Bio Page | 22 PA Live event held on September 02, 2020. Season 1 | Episode 6|Modern Agriculture Technologies - Part 2 Abstract and Key learning The talk focused on the learnings from the project VTT (Vocational Training Team) in the agricultural field done from 31.1.2016 to 13.2.2016 - collaboration of Rotary Club of Ramla Israel and Rotary Club of Bombay Queen City India. It involved in addition to Rotarians from both the countries - farmers (men and women), scientists , extension workers, government officials, students and staff members of the different institutions. The program in both places was planned and carried out by the local Krishi Vikas Kendra (KVK) : KVK JALNA and MGM KVK GANDHELI, AURANGABAD. The issue of women's participation was brought up in different occasions and in different groups and was given special importance, especially in decision making process in agriculture and in development as a whole, for the potential benefit for the family and the society's welfare. A variety of activities were arrange during the visit - such as visits to KVK centers, visits to farmer's fields and villages, lectures and discussions, meeting with professionals, leaders and farmers. The programs had a logical sequence which started with a visit to the KVK to get familiar with the farm, subjects treated, scientists and the function of the system. In the following days came the visits and lectures according to the crops which were visited. While presenting new technologies for the relevant crops, the great differences in conditions between different places and the change of weather every year was acknowledged. It was understood that the farmer is Page | 23 PA obliged to make decisions for every particular situation. Accordingly, VTT team tried to explain the unseen processes occurring in the plant (in the soil) by irrigation and fertilization and how the farmer can follow and make sure what happens to the plant. In vegetables the focus was on tomato and cucumber with relevant examples to these specific crops. Another very important subject was the farmers organization for a specific crop in order to increase the advantages and quality of the marketing, following the model of TALI GRAPES in Israel. VTT team also tried to present new technologies in agriculture contemplating future options of using soil- less culture and hydroponic vegetable growing. Simple drip irrigation solutions were also presented for small farmers who live in remote isolated places. An overview of Israel's agriculture was given emphasizing the example of hard conditions which motivated the farmers and led to finding original and unconventional solutions. Opportunities for Rotarian Projects Following are some of the opportunities for Rotarians to use the learnings • The VTT from Israel consisted of 3 Agro experts and their knowledge and experience was shared with 100’s of farmers in many villages particularly in Aurangabad and Jalna areas • Special emphasis was given to the training of Women Farmers in Rural areas and the local translators were able to provide the experts knowledge by translating the same into local language • The VTT team returned to Israel and have been in contact with the Rotary Club of Bombay Queen City to ensure continued support for those farmers who need to advance their learning experience. Season 1 | Episode 07|Energy Swaraj Abstract and Key learning The talk focused on experiences and ideas of our Speaker Chetan Singh Solanki in Renewable energy and sustainability. There are many galaxies and stars in our universe, the galaxy we live in is the milky way. In this vast galaxy, there are many small stars planets. Here we take sunlight from the sun, compared to the sun, we are 109 times smaller than the sun. Human life is only possible due to thin blue atmosphere around the earth. This shows that the place we live in is very precious because it is a one among a billion planets. In this world there used to be nice jungles, clean rivers and very fertile soil, but now, everything that is natural on this planet has changed. Everything is now polluted. There are seventeen things in life that are important like education, gender, water and sanitation and etc, and they all are connected to energy. Energy has a lot of different forms from coal burnt energy to solar energy but due to people using a lot of burnt energy, this release carbon. Carbon di oxide is one of the main factors in global warming. Due to global warming, the world changes and the earth becomes very hot. Everything is polluted. Page | 26 PA Current status of the world. Now in many countries like Australia and America, there are many forest fires and people aren’t able to do anything about it. And in Italy, many places were flooded, but not because of rain but because of seawater just going in the city. Now most of the places on earth is marked a red zone due to the of temperature and pollution. In places which are supposed to be desert was covered in snow a few years ago. In places like Delhi, people know that there is pollution but there are about 200 cars just standing in the traffic with their engines on, these incidents are the ones that cause mass pollution . Under sustainability Everything is finite on this planet, air water land soil and forests so we have to keep the finite resources so that we have a world to live in. People have trained woman to identify the various components to figure out if the component is good or not good, to solder the components to make it a good component or item. They have products like the sola r lamp that are sold to earn money. They have also given training to install solar appliances in houses and they have gone further on making a unit to do jobs like this. They have covered up to 40,000 villages and 10 cities to make this work. They have also created a thing called ENERGY SWARAJ that is a scenario where locals generate and consume their own energy needs using local renewable energy sources like hydro and solar electricity. Energy swaraj is a totally viable project that could work because the person who created it is Dr. Chetan Singh who has done his PhD in solar, knows how advanced the solar technology is right now and can be one of the few technologies that are near the ideal efficiency, these are socially acceptable and is environmentally friendly. This energy swaraj has a moto of energy by locals for locals. We should start avoiding use of energy to save the earth as even solar energy still leaves a carbon footprint but not as big as the others. If you cannot avoid it, minimize it. Minimizing the use of energy can help a lot as much as avoiding and also generate if possible, generating can help us use energy and give so it is made by you for you. There are many benefits from attaining energy Swaraj like: • Skill development • Livelihood creation • Local and economic strengthening • Energy independence • Confidence in technology • Energy discipline • Energy security • Sustainability Page | 27 PA • Climate change mitigation. This will help the world a lot to save it for the future. Season 1 | Episode 11|Food to Flight Abstract and Key learning The talk focused on traversing the lives of our two entrepreneurs and what are the learnings we can take from their narrative. Prasoon talked about how and why his life dream of going to space transformed into Sattviko - a food company that he currently runs. His story starts from his college days where he had two choices like most - either go the traditional way of MBA from a premier institute, Investment Banking or Consulting, make a few hundred crore and then retire. Or go for a risk laden journey with Entrepreneurship. He started with his first edtech start-up called TechBuddy in 2009 when edtech was still in its runway. The company trained over 100 thousand engineers over next 4 years. The company was sold post a year for a decent profit. Prasoon dedicated his next 1 year to travel. One of the incidents that he remembers is a cricket match that he got to play on the border of India and Pakistan. After travelling many more countries one realization that he had his love for Brand India. That’s when his love for food emerged. He realized that India has a legacy of food from time immemorial and someone needs to bring this in front of the contemporary world that we live in today. That was the birth of Sattviko with a mission to bring the science of all those recipes to the modern consumers. Sattviko is today serving not only India but 5 more countries. His dream of travelling to space still is on though he wants to feed the planet with Indian-ness before he does so. Ankit’s narrative started from Kanpur where he was born to a family of 5 generation of business. So he says it was in his genes though he never thought seriously about it. He jokes saying his life was decided by three drinks he had and what transpired post that. His first turning point came when post a drink he got involved in organizing student formula racing events for his college where he got exposed to different manufacturing aspects and started developing a special interest. The second turning point came in 2010 when he lost his passport (post a drink – which he calls the most expensive and yet remarkable one he had had in his life)! Soon after he had to wait in Kanpur to get his new passport where he got exposed to space/satellite manufacturing. He left for Masters where again he got fascinated with how Industry and Academic works together abroad but not in India. A chance drink was his third turning point which led him to decide that he needs to go back to India and wants to setup something back in Kanpur. This time he Page | 36 PA wanted to marry Academic world and Industry. That’s when his current company Objectify was born in the labs of IIT Kanpur. Season 1 | Episode 12 |Future of Mobility Abstract and Key learning The future of mobility being fuelled by four key technology-driven disruptive trends, in automobile word it is widely referred as CASE ie, Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric. Dr. Seshu Bhagavathula shared the latest developments on this space. There are few key factors driving the future of mobility, it starts with powertrain technologies, new matured power trains such as battery and solar energy offer higher energy efficiency and lower emissions. The efficiency is further improved with lightweight materials which enable to accommodate more passengers with our compromising the safety of the passenger. There are considerable advances in in connected vehicles, and this enables a huge shift in mobility preference. younger generation is now leading the way to pay-per-use mobility, instead of owning a car. Autonomous drive technology is no longer fiction, people are already trying to make and adopt to the mainstream autonomous vehicles. Ford once said, “mark my words, A combination of airplane and motorcar is coming, you may smile but it will come.” Autonomous driving also increases the security and safety of the drivers, now vehicles have cameras attached on each side for the safety and wellbeing of the driver. Cars AI are connected to satellites for help like navigation and traffic congestion checks. They also have blind-spot detection. Shared vehicles are very useful now as it reduces the amount of noise and air pollution and in the same time can be useful to 2 different people in the same time. This in terms can also be called Carpool. 5G will also be used for transportation. We have exploited mother earth considerably we may need to find a new planet or the life of humans might even go extinct. Now, people are coming up with ideas to save the world with electric mobility which decrease the amount of pollution and also decrease traffic congestion. Page | 38 PA In the future, due to this rapid amount of development, there will be things like jet-powered hoverboards, autonomous individual transport pods, superfast maglev trains, flying cars and etc. we will have 4 future scenarios, multi-modality, platformisation of transport, technology singularity and transcendental mobility.
