THE GHOSALS OF JORA SHIBTALA, NARUA, CHANDANNAGAR Right opposite to the Loknath Bhawan marriage hall in Narua, bearing witness to the rich history of Bengal's architecture, there is a beautiful pink Dolmancha at the very mouth of a quiet lane that unbeknownst to many is the gateway to one of the richest and most prestigious families of Chandannagar. The Ghosals are a zamindar family based out of Jora Shibtala, Narua, Chandannagar. Originally from Satgachhia, the Ghosals came to Chandannagar some 270 years ago. The Ghosals were the proud owners of a sprawling estate that included many ponds, trees, land, and a huge palace. They had many cows and used to own a jaw dropping collection of gems and jewelry. The Ghosals also had an important property in Kolkata near Beadon Street. The old Palace has gone through a series of renovations. The Ghosals worship Lakshmi Janardan Jieu as their family deity. They are a huge family with generations living together. The Ghosals were in all probability one of the first Boat merchants of Chandannagar. After the demise of the family heads Khirod Ghosal and Khitish Ghosal, the property is under the ownership of their children and grandchildren.
