You, the fans, know it because you’ve been with us all the way, but the world is waking up to us – we were voted “Most Improved Company of the Year” and I think that says it all. But let’s not rest on our laurels. 2021 is here, and it’s going to be even greater than 2020. I can tell you, we have some incredible events lined up for you. All of it free on PWL Online! Now, I don’t want to take up precious minutes of superb in - ring action, so – Ernest Youngman’s music hits. The crowd boo furiously. Luis Figo Manico Figo welcomes 2021 Youngman makes his way to the ring with a sly smirk on his face. He asks for the microphone from Figo. Figo grits his teeth and hands it over. Youngman: Out with the old, in with the new. Get out of my ring, Figo. I’m done with you. You don’t deserve to share the ring with me – I proved that at Prestige. Get out, go on. Now you’re out of the way, I can turn my attention back to the real target. The real enemy. Frankie Perez. Still, somehow, the PWL World Champion. Let me tell you something, Frankie Boy. You’d better make the most of your time with that belt because this is my season. I’m winning the League. And when I’m done with that, you won’t have a choice but to give me a title shot. And we all know what’ll happen. That title will be mine. Frankie Perez’s music plays and the champion appears on the entrance ramp with a microphone. Perez: Big words from someone who’s yet to win a title. Face it, Youngman, you’re a nearly man. You nearly won the third League, and you nearly won the Valiant Tournament. Then you nearly won the fourth League. What’s going to change? Nothing. You’ll nearly win this League, but you’ll bottle it like you always do. This season is mine. I’ve already won the Prestige Trophy twice, and I’m gonna add another one to my collection. Let’s see. How about another 100% season? Tigre Salvaje Jr’s theme hits and he emerges with Devilfish and Masked Cougar in tow. He snatches the mic out of Perez’s hands. Figo welcomes 2021 5 mins Rating: 54 Tigre: A hundred percent? That means you’ll have to beat ME! Over this break, I’ve regained my energy and focus. I’ve got two great guys in my corner, and the best advice on the planet. This time around, there’s no excuse. I’m gonna win the League, and I’m gonna get that PWL World Championship – there’s nobody who can stop me! Ithunzi plays. An unfamiliar song to many of the fans, but those few who recognise it know it as Landon Mallory’s theme song. Mallory strides onto the entrance ramp. He grabs the microphone off Tigre. Mallory: Nobody? He squares up to Tigre. They stare at each other, Mallory looking down at the shorter Tigre. Then Mallory takes his eyes of Tigre and turns to Perez, eyeing the PWL World Championship around his waist. Mallory: Cape Town’s Finest is here. At last. This whole company is now officially on notice. Frankie Perez smiles. He pats Mallory on the shoulder and makes his way to the ring, passing Youngman on the way, daring him to try something. Youngman thinks better of it. Perez gets in the ring and holds the title high, getting the crowd hyped for his match coming up. Moreno and Florence introduce the show Moreno: Welcome one and all to Season 5 of the Prestige League, the first PWL show of 2020! We’re so glad to be back on air after the winter break, and I’m even more glad to welcome Joanne Rodriguez to the commentary booth alongside me. Rodriguez: Hi, Carlos! Hello to everyone watching on PWL Online! I’m delighted to have this opportunity as your new partner and your new voice of the action! I tell you what, Carlos, we’ve got some huge matches coming up tonight! Makinen vs. Tayama - the quintessential PWL match, Jordan against Mallory who makes his League debut. Another new face – Heihachiro Sakai vs. an everpresent – Mr. Lucha III, and to kick us off, Frankie Perez vs. Nelson Callum! Moreno: Every season the level of competition in the Prestige League gets higher and higher. Our main event tonight... a colossal encounter between Ernest Youngman and Tigre Salvaje Jr! Carlos Moreno Joanne Rodriguez Frankie Perez vs. Nelson Callum Rating Rating 68 63 Nelson Callum wins 16:13 Rating: 71 Nelson Callum and Frankie Perez engage in a mat - based wrestling contest. Both rely on leg - based submissions, although Perez struggles to get much traction with the P - Bar and can’t quite apply the P - Clutch (Cobra Clutch) which he used to retain against Konrad Makinen. The Heartbreaker, Callum, looks in great shape. Confidence is high, and he prevents Perez turning the match into a striking contest by avoiding the deadly kicks and grounding the champion. The crowd are stunned when Callum hooks Perez’s leg and rolls him up, getting the 3 count. Moreno: Woah! A massive win for Callum on his return to the League! That’s certainly an upset! Rodriguez: A shock for Perez and a great moment for Nelson Callum! Nelson Callum “Heartbreaker” Honey Trap Smooth Frankie Perez “Buzzsaw” P - Kick Sawtooth Konrad Makinen vs. Yasuhide Tayama Rating Rating 75 59 Yasuhide Tayama wins 12:32 Rating: 74 Rodriguez: It was the first match of 2020, and it’s the second this year – Makinen vs. Tayama in a repeat of that huge encounter right at the end of Season 4 where Tayama snatched a victory in the final moments of the League! Both men who had lost title matches to Frankie Perez in November clashed, but Tayama looked the more confident and in shape. Makinen seemed a step off the pace until Tayama hit the Cyclone to win the match. Moreno: A strong start for Tayama ! He’s had a shaky start in the last 2 seasons – now can he keep up consistent form throughout these nine rounds? As for Makinen, it looks like he’s still suffering from that huge loss at PWL Prestige. Konrad Makinen “Valhalla’s Chosen” Hero’s Journey Norwegian Pirate Yasuhide Tayama “The Coming Storm” Cyclone Endless Storm Konrad Makinen Promo After the match, Makinen takes a microphone and addresses the crowd. Makinen: What kind of cruel world is this? What kind of twisted, revolting place do we live in where stories promise a happy ending then cut you down from behind? I’m sorry. Where do we go from here? I built it all up... you built it with me. We wrote the story of my journey... my Hero’s journey... the quest... The only thing I can hold on to in all of this is the fact I never tapped. Perez had to choke me out. He had to dig deeper than he’s ever gone before to defeat me... but defeat me he did. I wasn’t good enough. I wasn’t worthy to be the Hero in the story. What kind of terrible hero am I? An explosive, precise, and assured performance saw him overcome the athleticism of Riddick Jordan, and pick up a win with the Springbok Ram. Riddick Jordan offered his hand after the match and Mallory shook it, thanking his opponent for the match. Moreno: Mallory showing he’s not to be trifled with early on in this season. He’s made a name for himself across Europe already, and it seemed like only a matter of time before he joined PWL. Rodriguez: Another massive star in the League... could he go on and win his debut season? Landon Mallory “Cape Town’s Finest” Springbok Ram Ithunzi Riddick Jordan “Unstoppable” Northern Lights Bounce Post - match Interaction Mallory heads up the entrance ramp. Jordan follows him, but as he does, unfamiliar music plays and Heihachiro Sakai emerges, appearing for the first time in PWL. The crowd pop for the debut. Sakai looks around the arena with disgust. He passes Jordan and looks at him like the filth on his boot. Jordan shakes him off and disappears up the ramp. Sakai goes to the ring with an expression of revulsion on his face. Rodriguez: He looks delighted to be here. Moreno: If you haven’t heard of Sakai, he’s a huge star in Japan, having worked for the biggest company there. He may not like it, but PWL attract that kind of star now! 4 mins Rating: 27 Heihachiro Sakai “The X - Fighter” Sakai Suplex skypierr Riddick Jordan “Unstoppable” Northern Lights Bounce Heihachiro Sakai vs. Mr. Lucha III Rating Rating 59 77 Heihachiro Sakai wins 11:13 Rating: 69 Sakai showed the fans why he considered himself a level above the rest of the competition here by putting on a showcase of puro - resu , lighting up Mr. Lucha III with savage strikes and throwing him around the ring with a variety of suplexes and athletic manoeuvres. Mr. Lucha III surprised him on occasions with his aerial offence, but Sakai came out on top when he hit the Sakai Suplex Moreno: Another strong debut! With Mallory and Sakai winning their first matches and Nelson Callum picking up a huge win, the new faces in the League are showing up the regulars! Rodriguez: Figo has outdone himself with his signings this time around! Heihachiro Sakai “The X - Fighter” Sakai Suplex skypierr Mr. Lucha III “The Future Legend” Spin Kick Third Strike MAIN EVENT: Ernest Youngman vs. Tigre Salvaje Jr Rating Rating 81 75 El Dorado hits the speakers as Tigre Salvaje Jr races to the ring, shortly followed by Devilfish and Masked Cougar. Tigre sprints back and forth between the ropes, then does a springboard corkscrew backflip to a huge ovation from the crowd. Rodriguez: Tigre wants to start the season with a bang! As Evil Ways begins, the crowd switch to aggressive booing. They shout their anger and frustration at the man who handily put away Luis Figo Manico at PWL Prestige for the second time tonight. Youngman ignores them and paces to the ring. Moreno: That huge win at Prestige will give Youngman all the confidence in the world to go on and win this League. It’s exactly what he needed! Tigre Salvaje Jr “Tiger Blood” Salvaje Suplex El Dorado Ernest Youngman “The Assassin” The Hit Evil Ways MAIN EVENT: Ernest Youngman vs. Tigre Salvaje Jr Tigre doesn’t stop moving around the ring, bursting with energy, eager to get straight at Youngman. In contrast, The Assassin stands motionless in the centre. The bell rings and Tigre smashes into Youngman with a shoulder charge. Youngman stands his ground. Tigre pauses for a moment before crashing into Youngman again but can’t move the big man. After a shout from Masked Cougar, Tigre goes for a third shoulder charge, but at the last moment twists around and hits a spinning enziguiri which has Youngman reeling. Tigre follows up with a cannonball in the corner and drives his knees into the Assassin’s chest from the second rope. Moreno: Explosive start from Tigre! He’s showing he’s got a great chance of winning this match! Youngman pushes him away and, as Tigre rushes forward to attack again, he catches Tigre in a powerbomb position and slams him to the mat. From this moment, Youngman takes control, switching to a ground - based wrestling strategy, smothering Tigre, despite his bucking and thrashing. Rodriguez: With one big move, Youngman completely reversed the momentum. He’s so dangerous like that! And now, he’s riding Tigre like... well, like he’s riding a tiger! His technical ability is so good, he can keep anyone down on the mat, no matter their size or strength! MAIN EVENT: Ernest Youngman vs. Tigre Salvaje Jr Transitioning from hold to hold, Youngman works over Tigre’s ankle, attempting to take out the base of his aerial attacks. Tigre struggles to break free, and on the third concerted attempt, he manages to get to the ropes where Masked Cougar and Devilfish cheer him on. Making his comeback, Tigre hits a number of kicks and a hurricanrana that sends Youngman to the outside. Tigre follows to the apron and hits a spectacular springboard corkscrew uppercut, bouncing off the bottom rope and connecting with Youngman on the outside. They both tumble into the guardrail. Tigre rushes back into the ring. He flies back out again with a huge top e suicida And another. And a third. He rolls Youngman into the ring and attempts a cover. Moreno: Tigre for the win! One...Two... Th — Kickout! Youngman survives. What a start to the season that would have been for Tigre! Youngman catches Tigre’s ankle after the pin attempt and starts working it over again. He applies an ankle lock. Tigre roars in pain, but twists onto his back to kick Youngman away. Youngman gets after him and hits the Smoking Gun (twisting backbreaker) and the Gut Line ( sitout powerbomb onto his own boots). He attempts the ankle lock again. Moreno: Big trouble for Tigre! He may have to tap here to make sure he doesn’t pick up an injury for the rest of the season! Will he? No! He reaches the ropes! MAIN EVENT: Ernest Youngman vs. Tigre Salvaje Jr Time Limit Draw 20:00 Rating: 79 Youngman drags Tigre back into the ring and now applies the Silencer ( gogoplata ). Tigre looks like he may tap as the energy seeps out of his body. Encouragement comes from Masked Cougar and Devilfish. Tigre battles back with a surge of energy and manages to get to his knees and then his feet before slamming Youngman to the mat. He picks the Assassin up again to hit the Salvaje Suplex , but as he lifts Youngman, his ankle gives out on him and he drops Youngman. Youngman darts behind Tigre and hits the Hit (double knee backbreaker). Tigre’s back takes the full impact of the point of Youngman’s knees. But the force pushes him forward... and out of the ring. The Assassin chases him, but before he can get Tigre back between the ropes, the bell rings calling an end to the match – a time limit draw! Moreno: A draw! I don’t think either man will be happy with that result! Youngman’s furious! Still on the outside, Youngman shows his frustration by kicking the guard rail, slamming the mat and throwing Tigre into the crowd. The ref, Neil Fearn , tries to calm him down. He shoves Fearn who falls to the floor. Youngman smashes into Cougar and Devilfish and storms to the back. Rodriguez: Youngman faces Perez next week – can he control his anger by then? Don’t miss it!
