To thy great name be endless praise, Immortal Godhead, One in Three. Oh, grant us endless length of days, In our true native land with thee. Amen. 1 st READING : 2 Cor inthians 5: 1 - 7 - - In the 2 nd letter to the Cor inthians, St. Paul reminds us that : e ven though we are l iving in this world, we are not of i t -- For we know that if our earthly dwelling , a t ent, should be destroyed, we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands, eternal in heaven For in this tent we groan, longing to be further clothed with our heavenly habitatio n , if indeed, when we have taken it off , we shall not be found naked For while we are in this tent we groan and are weighed down, because we do not wish to be unclothe d but to be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life Now the one who has prepared us for this very thing is God , who has given us the Spirit as a first installment So we are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord , F or we walk by faith, not by sight 2 n d READING : Luke 1: 2 6 - 38 - - Because of His love for us, He sent down His only Son. We invite you to reflect on the new s o f Jesus coming and how Mary had fait h ful respon d ed -- In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth , to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you. ” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High , and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father , and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. ” But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man? ” And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceive d a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren ; f or nothing will be impossible for Go d. ” Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her 3 rd Reading : John 5: 1 - 9 - - Through Jesus and in Him , we place our Hope and pray for better world, one where peace and kindness reside -- “I am the true vine , and my Father is the vine grower He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does he prune s so that it bears more fruit You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing Anyo ne who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love ” 4 th Reading : John 5: 1 - 9 - - J esus came and reminded us th at in our moments of sufferings, we are never truly alone for God is always with us. He want ed us to know that no matter how d ark life might get, there will always be light ; in sufferings, there laid the B eatitudes -- “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for th ey will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, fo r they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus, they persecuted the prophets who were before you. ” 5 th Reading : 1 Corinthian 13: 1 - 13 - - So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. -- If I speak in human and a ngelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. I f I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick - tempered, it does not brood over injury , I t does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I us ed to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things. At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. “ Tantum Ergo ” Tantum ergo Sacraméntum Venerémur cérnui: Et antiquum documéntum Novo cedat ritui: Praestet fides suppleméntum Sénsuum deféctui.
