Character Creation Guide This Guide is meant to help you build your L EVEL 1 character This will be a Dark Fantasy Horror campaign. Please make characters with this in mind. Homebrew Rules and Rule Changes Listed In The Module 1. The spell remove curse will not work here. Instead you must use Greater Restoration if you wish to remove a curse. 2. Dark vision granted from R acial Features is reduced to 15 Feet unless the race also has Sunlight Sensitivity. Otherwise it functions as normal. 3. Healer Kit dependency: A character can’t spend any Hit Dice after finishing a short rest until someone expends one use of a healer’s kit per character to bandage and treat the character’s wounds. 4. A milestone based Leveling system will be used. Nothing has an xp value 5. Do not expect to easily find magic/masterwork items. There are some present in the module but they are rare. 6. Many spells have been changed aesthetically to fit the theme Eg. Mage hand is now a skeleton hand. 7. Guns will be present within this module But Are Not Common Races This module contains 90% Humans. These humans have been isolated and tormented for aeons by the things that go bump in the night. If you play a non humanoid race be prepared to experience their fear and xenophobia. Gnomes and halflings would be mistaken (at first glance) for children. Dwarves for ugly midgets and elves as untrustworthy. Tieflings, dragonborn and any other monstrous looking races will be seen as a threat unless disguised (Akin to being undead in divinity) Classes This campaign will be level 1-10 My usual rules of published material only will apply here. Unearthed Arcana is allowed however you may not multiclass if you choose to use it. The only unpublished material allowed will be The blood hunter class (No multiclassing) and the gunslinger fighter archetype. Backstory If your backstory is not connected to Barovia (The land the module is set in) then it most likely will have no effect on the game at all as the module is set on its own plane isolated from all others. A great starting point (Or complete background if you wish) is the haunted one. It was written specifically for the Curse of Strahd module and sets character tone perfectly. If you would like we can work together on a backstory that is connected and I can thread it into the narrative. Personality Try and create a personality that has some darkness and depth (no need to be an edgelord though) A good system that Dndbeyond uses is the Characteristics system Personality Traits, Flaws, Ideals, Bonds and Flaws are selectable and help easily flesh out a dynamic personality. Roleplaying your character will be rewarded. If you don’t I won't punish you but it will hurt the group experience. Items Don’t worry about items other than your starting gear. It will be taken care of session 1.
