Document scope This document is for me to gather and compile, giving me an accurate plan to follow and plan with. I will be following this strictly and will be attempting to not deviate from this. Project scope & Feasibility My project is purposefully small scale. This is to allow myself to increase my detail in my assets and not create a project that is unrealistic. Enjoyers of thriller and exploration games , and are goal orientated. Psychometric My target audience are driven by the unknown, being explorers – according to Bartle’s Taxonomy , and Aspirers – according to Rubicam’s 4Cs. Discovering hidden meanings and interpreting their ow opinions of the story drive my audience. Types of games for this Target Audience I want to attract people who like games such as Poppy Playtime, using puzzle systems to engage and hook the player into feeling pride when discovering the solutions. Other similar games in relation to the story lead style of gameplay is Bendy and The Ink Machine, FNaF Security Breach , and Secret of the Mimic. Legal and ethical related to target audience My target audience fit in the 15 - 24 - year - old range, however legally, the game will have a lower PEGI rating. This is due to the game’s lack of older content that would provide it with that higher rating. My game will most likely be a PEGI 12 with warnings of thriller, blood and vulgar language. Market research Competitors In the market, some of my competitors are other indie game developers making story - based horror games. Some of these will be targeting my same audience due to their preferences and genera l lifestyle that allow them to play games like mine. However, my game stands out with its unique selling point. Unique selling point (USP) The STEORRA has unique features that make it stand out from other indie horror games; this can be seen in its environmental design. The game will have detailed scenery, with every detail looked at and accounted for . This is unlike other indie games that appear quite rushed and are released still as beta versions that never get revised. Furthermore, my game will have animated characters with high rendered designs and immersive sounds. Technical Platforms Target platforms I aim to target my game towards PC players, needing a decently powerful engine to run the game. Limitations of platform The only limitation of using PC as my target is that a lot of people won’t have one, with most young gamers having a Console or Laptop. Strengths of platform The strengths of using PC as my platform is that it is very powerful, meaning it can run my game smoothly and allows for higher detailed renders. Furthermore, it enables the player to play the game as designed using a keyboard and mouse, which will be easier to play on instead of controller or mobile. Software Game engine I will be using Unreal Engine as my game engine; this is based on my prior knowledge with it and experience using the software Code language and system specs I will be coding in Blueprints; this is Unreal Engine’s unique coding language. Visual For my visuals , I will be using Autodesk Maya to 3D model my environment and Substance Painter to texture my models. Audio A cross this project, I will be making Foley audio to create footsteps and gears, but also finding royalty free audio to use magical sounds. File types list for development Models: .mb Images: .png Audio: .mp3 Textures: .png Naming conventions Character_model _3D Footsteps_Audio UI_2D Creative Narrative/Story/Lore Storyline / Synopsis Psycu, a boy from a universe, has entered the Cosmos (a higher plane of creation) and is introduced to a friend Curaseem. After a long time of learning and growing his powers, she shows him an abandoned museum called The STEORRA and explains that it was run by the Stars (governmental figures) . It had been forgotten about many years ago and left to face time. Psycu’s goal is to explore The STEORRA and unveil the hidden truths about the Stars. Inspiration and feel / style This is a Dark Fantasy based on the (not yet released) book series “Tarots of the Willow Tree” by yours truly . It will be eerie and magical, feeling desolate and alone. Game World The game feels very similar to Poppy Playtime , being mysterious and creepy. With its intention to make the player feel on edge, this will keep them engaged and aware of their surrounding which allows them to not miss key details. Environments The entrance of the building will be grand, a tall circular room with a huge animatronic in the centre, it will have a glass ceiling and 4 other doorways to different parts of the museum . This should be daunting and opens the idea of a challenge to the player, to go and unlock every door and face all their puzzles to unlock the true story. Characters You play as Psycu, a 14 - year - old boy with the power to manipulate aura energy He’s timid but strong, at this point he is confident with his powers, and it reflects in the player’s playstyle. Curaseem is Psycu’s new friend who has guided him subtly through the Cosmos, a place she grew up in. She is the one who suggests The STEORRA to him, knowing of her old participation in the project and hidden files of knowledge that the Stars never let her see. The Stars are the governmental body of the Cosmos, all powerful and tyrannical rulers who funded The STEORRA in an attempt to teach the upper middle classes of their reign , they swiftly forgot about the project and left it abandoned, the gates haven’t opened in many years. Enemies The main enemy is an animatronic of Curaseem, retaining thresholds of her own power that she had sealed inside it many years ago to give it power and entertain the guests. However, it had also been used as its back - up security system, for Curaseem holds high power in the Cosmos and a rob ot using her powers would be a threat to any intruder, luckily it had never been needed before, until now... Important assets The most important asset for this project is the animatronic of Curaseem, this involves its audio prompts of gears and magic whirring. Style Art Style I want the style to reflect this creepy and mysterious vibe provided by the concept. This is why I will style my game like Poppy Playtime but using more higher class looking styles. Audio I wish to create sufficient gear sound effects for the animatronic’s movement, this will resemble creaking and gears moving. Also, I wish for there to be eerie background music, this will set the scene and act as atmospheric noise to fill the player with dread as they realise the scale of the room they are in. It also notifies the player that they are at a focal point of the gam e’s progression. Gameplay recursion The main game recursion will be walking, interacting with puzzles, completing puzzles , prompting lore revealed. Unique selling point / fun factor The game will already have a full story planned out through novels; the player can continue with the game’s lore and learn the pre - game story through said novels. Furthermore, the immersive level within the game is intended to be very high, fully involving the player into the mind of Psycu. Concepts Characters Psycu has dark brown hair, brown eyes and many freckles. He wears simple clothes with loose fits and a tight waist Curaseem has a marble sphere for a head, with a golden glowing halo hovering above. Her eye is a large cross that covers her face and her mouth is a sling slit that runs along the bottom, both of these are floating just off the surface of her head. She wea rs a white and gold blazer with a neatly polished look. Here trousers are a deep brown with low heels on her feet. Her head is levitating for she has no neck, with that empty space being filled by a miniature galaxy. The Stars are similar to Curaseem , but they each have style representing their own powers (which aren’t shown within the game) and their heads are 3D stars. Enemies The animatronic is Curaseem’s design, but with mechanical parts peeking out of it, using gears and pullies to hold its head and magic seeping out of the cracks . There is clear weathering on the machine parts and the magic appears wild and untamed. Environments Here is a bird’s - eye - view of the environment being created in the project, seeing the four doors and the stage in which the animatronic will stand upon.
