12/19/2019 PAGE 1 ANALYZING THE S51 RW SHL PROSPECTS AND TOP 10 LIST MXMAN991’s adversary apparently... Diary Entry 12/17/2019 MXMAN991 I would laugh manically, but my editor would only hear and use that as grounds to get my article pulled. I don’t think my last threat of beating him if he pulled my journal really stuck. As such I have begun actually taking martial arts training. Ok I ha ven’t actually started, but I did watch a movie with Jackie Chan in it and he fights like a bad ass. If he tries to pull my latest article from publication I will use that Jackie Chan learned form of combat on him. Enough about him though, that mole is back, I am getti ng worried that it wants vengeance. It has an evil glint in its eye when it looks at me. Do Moles remember? We will see, I hope I can get it before it gets me. Ok Diary, I need to write a personal column for the new publication or that editor will lose his mind. XOXO write in you tomorrow! We think MXMAN991 accidently submitted his journal entry for an article , hes gunna be pissed when he sees we printed it. Top ten Right Wingers? How can Mxman keep spinning gold? Method to the madness MXMAN991 For those of you sharpening your pikes because you are a RW and you are not on the list, I want to walk through how I found these rankings and remind you that, though I am publishing this on the 23 rd , these stats were all pulled on the 17 th It just took a long time for me to go through the math and frankly to write about 10 players. If I am honest, this will likely be the last time I write about 10 players, because 5 would be a lot easier and probabl y make me enough money for my training and gear anyways. Alright, lets get into how I calculated the numbers. Similar to my last rating system, all the stats are calculated against the person who had the highest stats in any category, meaning if someone le d the league with 29 assists, then that was the benchmark for the perfect player in the league to that point. I would not be able to predict what would be the best unless I calculated it against the history in the league, but I discounted that due to changing TPE caps over the years and different build styles. Primary stats that were measured were goals, assists, plus minus, penalty minutes, hits, and shot percentage. Goals and assists are easy to understand why they are on the list,so I will explain the other stats. Plus minus is a sign of a player’s defensive ability as well as their offensive one. I placed it on there in the event you were more a two way player, it would not be fair to discount them as they still contribute to a team ’s overall success. Additionally penalty minutes can hurt the team, so the more a player had, the less overall points they got in that category. Hits were also a mark of a good two player as they contribute to turnovers and ability of the team to find open ice to score. Last, when it came to shots, I didn’t want to reward anything except shots that went in the net because bad shots can contribute to turnovers and opportunities for the opposing team. I averaged them all in comparison to other players at the position in excel (see at the bottom) and that calculated the score used to write this episode. IN THIS ISSUE LIST OF TOP 10 RW’S IN THE SMJHL TODAY PLAYER’S ADJUSTED OV R RATINGS! FULL LIST OF RW’S IN THE SMJHL 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 2 #10 Kalevolaripaavo Käspertommevisnapuu (KEL) 77 OVR AUTHOR NAME DATE Kalevolaripaavo Käspertommevisnapuu, the only thing that makes you more tired than trying to cover him is saying his name three times fast. Kalevolaripaavo has been absolutely electric through the majority of the S51 season, and it is no surprise that he comes in as a top 10 SMJHL right winger. In his Junior year he has already 15 goals and another 15 assists, showing his ability and desire to be a team play er. What we love about him though is that he is consistent across all stat lines. He has shot the puck 54 times on net this year and managed to bury a respectable 8.93% of them for a goal. Kalevolariapaavo has also contributed 38 hits through 42 games, sho wing that he isn’t afraid to get physical when the game calls for it. Most impressively though is his high plus minus rating at +11. Kalevolariapaavo is rarely out on the ice when a defensive break down occurs, showing that he is a smart two way player out on the ice. Look for Kalevolaripaavo to be breaking ankles, and people’s tongues when they try to say his name, in the SHL soon. Kalevolaripaavo Käspertommevisnapuu 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 3 # 9 Jay Reeves (ANC) 83 OVR AUTHOR NAME DATE Already at 16 goals and 24 assists on the season Jay is an offensive powerhouse for the red hot Anchorage Armada team. Known for his yoga on ice before every game, what was once laughed at has begun to spread across the SMJHL league as others try to emulate his performance. Jay Reeves doesn’t play the most physical hockey in the league, but he makes up for it with his quick skating and hands. His is particularly dangerous from the point with his snap shot. He is shooting a touch over 13% of his shots in th e back of the net, and in the SMJHL that is no easy feat. Where he really shines though is in his heads up smart style of hockey, which has led to him being amongst the top in the league of assists. It has also led to him avoiding time in the penalty box, which is always an important asset in winning games. He could work on his plus minus, but it won’t be long before he is called up the SHL. JAY REEVES Warming up before the game in his fan favorite way. 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 4 #8 Hariken Urawa (COL) 87 OVR AUTHOR NAME DATE The speedy sniper from Japan is turning heads and changing opinions about the Japanese people’s skill on the ice. If there are more players like Hariken back on the home island, it will not be long before the Japanese people hoist the world cup . Hariken has found a way to beat the goal tender 18 times by his own stick and 23 times by the stick of his teammate. Most impressively is his willingness to lay the body, as he has 42 hits so far on the season. Harkien Urawa also has been amazing at play ing defensively when the time has called for it and it has shown with his plus minus being at an amazing +15, one of the highest in the SMJHL. Also, a consistent theme with those who placed in the top 10 at the position he hasn’t found himself in the penal ty box often, with only 8 minutes on the season. Even though he has been playing a tough physical game, he hasn’t fallen into any dirty plays. Hariken in his promotional shot for S51 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 5 #7 Ravyn Tedisko (HFX) 88 OVR AUTHOR NAME DATE Rayvn Tedisko, a veteran of the SMJHL league is having another standout season in the S52 campaign. She has 21 goals, tying her team mate on the season for goals at the RW position. What doesn’t show easily on the stat sheet though is that she has two hat tricks on the campaign already, and it would not be surprising if she had another. The only downside right now is that she seems to be streaky, scoring multiple times on a night and going silent for several games. I t is probably this slight inconsistent playing that has prevented her from already being called up to the SHL. However, under her new coach Ed Balls in Halifax, it would be surprising if she did not find a way to be more consistent as the season continues. If she can get that consistency she has needed in her game she should be able to fix that plus minus (which stands at - 5 right now). Ravyn in her promotional shot for S50 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 6 #6 Al Kayhall (HFX) 89 OVR MXMAN991 A surprise on the season to be sure, Al Kayhall has been playing lights out since the first puck dropped in S52. In his junior campaign he seems to have solved his defensive woes that led him to a -9 plus minus in his rookie year. While not the best plus minus in the league he still is sporting a respectable +5 currently on the season, which is no doubt helping the surge in winning that has manifested recently in Halifax. Al Kayhall currently is tied for the most goals at the RW position and is number three in the league for goals scored. A truly remar kable turnaround from his first season in the SMJHL. His most impressive performance has been his accuracy with his wrist shot which has led him to have a 19% success rate on scoring on his shots. A balanced player at the position, he also has 21 assists, showing that he will work as a team to ensure Halifax gets the win. Only signed to one year contract with Hamilton in the offseason, I would guess that he demands a healthy contract extension when talks continue. Al Kayhall shown in his promotional shot in S50 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 7 #5 Bobby Lane (CAR) 90 OVR MXMAN991 Bobby Lane is having a consistent season in Carolina and it is helping Carolina in their bid for the Four Star Cup. Bobby has 20 goals and 20 assists on the year, but what is great about his game this season is his ability to play as a two way forward. He has been able to keep his plus minus at a +13 while playing as a power forward not afraid to lay a hit to make a play. Already he stands at 43 hits on the season. Carolina has something special cooking over in their stadium and Bobby Lane is a large part o f it. If he continues at this level of play and decision making he will be turning heads in the SHL in no time. Especially if he continues finding the back of the net on 15% of his shots. Bobby Lane shown in his promotional shot 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 8 #4 James Ronlain (STL) 90 OVR MXMAN991 James Ronlain is a point machine. Already at 22 goals a third of the way through the season, we can only sit back and watch in awe as he continues finding a way to keep STL in contention. Ronlain has also passed off the goal scoring puck an additional 22 times, bringing him to an astounding 44 points on the season already. It is is rare in the SMJHL to find players at a young age who play the game in a mature way, ie not shooting every puck you think might score, but sometimes passing it to a more sure shot. James seems to not have that problem, putting his team before his stat line and it will show when he gets called to the SHL. Any GM should be looking to get James and sign him to a long term team friendly contract before h is agent is able to dictate an astronomical contract, which he fully deserves. KEYWORD James Ronlain deserves a big pay day. 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 9 #3 Bobby Bobcalf (VAN) 95 OVR MXMAN991 Around this place in the list it gets very difficult to distinguish which is the better player. We at the SMJHL Daily really have to start nitpicking to distinguish who you would rather have if you were an SHL GM. Bobby Bobcalf is likely to make us eat this rating in the future when he hoists multiple cups and goes down in history, but we have him today, at third in the league at the RW position. It frankly comes down to goals, and that is not really a fair comparison because he has an astounding amount of assists already. 29 at 75 percent of the season, I mean come on, that is NHL broken video game stats. Bobby manages to raise up Vancouver, which is arguably amongst the lowest skilled teams this season, single handedly to a contender for the cup. When we mention that it is lack of goals preventing him from being at the top of the list, we don’t mean he doesn’t have any, he still is in the top 5% of the league in scoring, but when compared to the other two above him, that was simply enough to bring him to third. Bobby Bobcalf will go on to great things, we have no doubt about it, and if anything, it is only the fact that he is on Vancouver during a rebuilding year that has him at 3 rd on this list and not first overall. Look forward to seeing what you do in the SHL soon Bobby. KE 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 10 #2 Karl Krashwagen (HFX) 98 OVR MXMAN991 When Atlas left Halifax, it was like a family friend died in Halifax. Everyone thought that Halifax would fade to the back of the standings and be forgotten about. Which to be fair, pretty much happened last season. Karl however, a fan favorite for his off the ice antics normally involving absurdly large amounts of alcohol and fire at his local bar, has picked up the mantle left by Atlas, shined it and polished it. He is one of the most electric players in the SMJHL and looks like he was born to score goals. More than just a goal scorer however, he has been seen working with his teammate Al Kayhall after hours several times this season, and whatever he is saying to him is working (remember he was on the top 10 list too!). Karl is a mentor and superstar in t he SMJHL, and it would be surprising if he was not a shoe in for MVP this season for Halifax and even the SMJHL in general. Halifax has found their replacement for Atlas and then some, and fortunately for them, Karl will likely remain on the team for at le ast one more season, giving Halifax a chance at another run at the Four Star Cup. Expect to see Karl’ s name on it before he makes the jump to the big show in the SHL. Karl asked me to remind everyone that his bar is now open till 4 am. 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 11 #1 Yamamoto Mitsuharu (STL) 99 OVR MXMAN991 This was incredibly hard to decide. Karl and Bobby put up a good fight, but in the end, the numbers for Yamamoto don’t lie. The Yin to James’s Yang, he picks up what James is putting down and does it with style. I don’t mean to say that James is holding down the team, I mean to say that these two are the most exciting duo in the SMJHL and that is how they both made it in the top 5 in the SMJHL list. We aren’t sure what is in the water over in Saint Louis, but whatever it is, it creates great Right Wingers. Yamamoto is having an astoundingly consistent season and is managing to find ways to help even STL’s below standard roster find goals on a high average. Yamamoto will likely not get to hoist the cup in the SMJHL with STL, but if he keeps up this level of play, he will get to hoist the one that matters, in the SHL, and do that with a very large contract. Looking forward to seeing what his career ends up producing. Yamamoto has been playing his best hockey in years. 12/19/2020 SMJHL DAILY PAGE 12 Complete RW Adjusted OVR’s Right Wingers G % A % (+/-) % PIM % HIT % SHT % SH% % OVR Jeffery Santiago 4 18 1 3 -6 68 2 98 14 13 13 16 16.00% 84 52 Al Kayhall 21 95 21 72 4 78 27 73 43 38 42 53 19.09% 10 0 89 Indigo Trevino 16 73 11 38 1 75 29 71 29 26 36 46 16.49% 86 72 Karl Krashwagen 19 86 25 86 9 83 30 70 103 92 63 80 12.03% 63 98 Partario Scarangella 0 0 1 3 1 75 11 89 24 21 11 14 0.00% 0 35 Ravyn Tedisko 21 95 16 55 -5 69 28 72 76 68 59 75 13.29% 70 88 Bale ( R) 0 0 0 0 -1 73 2 98 9 8 0 0 0.00% 0 32 Rhys Pritchard ( R) 8 36 16 55 -5 69 25 75 17 15 26 33 12.50% 65 61 John Forfeit 8 36 6 21 -8 66 13 87 30 27 28 35 12.70% 67 59 John Hawke 3 14 3 0 -16 58 4 96 26 23 25 0 6.98% 37 40 Stan Hanson 6 27 4 14 14 88 41 59 112 100 15 19 16.22% 85 68 Rhett Ward 0 0 0 0 -1 73 0 100 1 1 2 3 0.00% 0 30 Jay Reeves 16 73 24 83 9 83 8 92 34 30 39 49 13.01% 68 83 Joe Kerr 8 36 16 55 5 79 18 82 43 38 40 51 16.67% 87 74 Bobby Lane 20 91 20 69 13 87 8 92 36 32 48 61 15.75% 83 90 Abhik Patel 0 0 2 7 -7 67 19 81 31 28 4 5 0.00% 0 33 Alexander Wachter 14 64 16 55 3 77 18 82 32 29 37 47 12.50% 65 73 Matthew Anderson 3 14 5 17 -5 69 8 92 29 26 29 37 5.17% 27 49 Jason Michel 0 0 1 3 -4 70 0 100 3 3 2 3 0.00% 0 32 Hariken Urawa 18 82 23 79 15 89 8 92 42 38 33 42 14.75% 77 87 Jean-Francois Mayer 1 5 2 7 -3 71 10 90 23 21 13 16 3.70% 19 40 Jmac NCheese 7 32 5 17 -1 73 2 98 38 34 21 27 12.96% 68 61 Cal Labovitch 5 23 18 62 -16 58 0 100 20 18 34 43 5.26% 28 57 Nathaniel Voltguin 0 0 1 3 -9 65 6 94 12 11 5 6 0.00% 0 32 Oscar Cordero 3 14 8 28 -4 70 25 75 36 32 35 44 4.11% 22 50 Capp Hatter 3 14 1 3 3 77 8 92 24 21 13 16 15.00% 79 52 Kalevolaripaavo Käspertommevisnapuu 15 68 15 52 11 85 11 89 38 34 54 68 8.93% 47 77 Nicklaus Engel 7 32 15 52 3 77 30 70 35 31 37 47 9.21% 48 62 Ferdanand Akwuegbu 0 0 2 7 -3 71 8 92 7 6 5 6 0.00% 0 32 SLATT Potts 5 23 5 17 -8 66 22 78 43 38 16 20 9.62% 50 51 Jastik Janörkssön 0 0 1 3 1 75 4 96 17 15 1 1 0.00% 0 33 Cody 13 59 18 62 23 97 26 74 53 47 31 39 12.15% 64 77 Mega Tron 13 59 10 34 -13 61 16 84 13 12 44 56 11.11% 58 63 James Ronlain 22 100 22 76 7 81 24 76 40 36 61 77 13.75% 72 90 Sasha Dangelchek 8 36 17 59 -5 69 40 60 86 77 49 62 8.08% 42 71 Yamamoto Mitsuharu 19 86 29 100 6 80 22 78 42 38 79 100 16.96% 89 99 Nicholas Corrigan 4 18 4 14 -8 66 8 92 23 21 19 24 14.29% 75 54 Dario Medici 3 14 16 55 8 82 0 100 15 13 23 29 7.50% 39 57 Sureshot Dombrowski 3 14 4 14 -17 57 10 90 14 13 21 27 6.98% 37 44 Bobby Bobcalf 18 82 29 100 26 100 12 88 45 40 56 71 12.41% 65 95
