Cape Cod treasure hunt offers $500 prize and another $500 for charity 12/17/20, 4)48 PM NEWS Need $500 for the holidays? Dig this treasure hunt on Cape Cod Eric Williams Cape Cod Times Published 2:52 p.m. ET Dec. 16, 2020 Updated 2:08 p.m. ET Dec. 17, 2020 Crank up your "Yargh!" and grab a shovel. A treasure chest has been hidden on Cape Cod, and wannabe pirates have until Christmas to claim $500 in booty. The hidden hoard is the brainchild of two self-described "Brewster boys," Jordan Fowler and Aaron Lynn, who want to end a tough year with a hunk of fun and give back to the Cape Cod community. "Life has seemed really monotonous," Fowler said. "We were trying to spice peoples' day up." Fowler, 27, said he and Lynn — lifelong buddies who grew up in Brewster — were motivated by the semi-noble thought: "What goofy thing could we do next?" But their frivolity is cleverly crafted, comes with a curious riddle and includes a payout to the treasure finder and to charity. The riddle was concocted by Lynn, 26, a published author and poet who now lives in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. "It was just like writing a poem with a hidden meaning," he said. The trickiest part, said Lynn, was eliminating words from the clue that might make the quest too easy. News of the contest first appeared on Fowler's Facebook page about a week ago. So far, no one has claimed the treasure. Here is an excerpt from Fowler's post: "In an effort to spread a little holiday cheer on what was otherwise a pretty tough year, I have been working in conjunction with my dear friend, and published author, Aaron Lynn, to orchestrate a treasure hunt in the spirit of giving. "If you can find the chest and its contents before Christmas Day, and deliver them to us, we will give you a sum of $500. In addition, ARCOR (Fowler's Harwich-based epoxy manufacturing company) will match the $500 with a donation to a — preferably local — charity of your choosing. If the chest remains undiscovered come Christmas Day, everything will be donated to a local charity of our choosing." Fowler said the treasure payout will come in the form of 500 gold-colored Sacagawea dollar coins in a wooden chest. He added that it is possible another set of clues might be released on his Facebook page. "We want somebody to find it," Fowler said.
