Colts players will be sourced from the Avon and from the Mortlock, Central Midlands Coastal and North Midlands leagues, so I urge all clubs in the the AFA President Avon to support Cam and Mark in their endeavours in putting a squad together for the CBH Colts Carnival. To all stakeholders of the Avon Football Association, With the Moora Colts Carnival weekend being I am writing to you all on behalf of the Directors of the cancelled, the Directors saw this as an opportunity to Avon Football Association to inform you of the fill the void of that weekend the 19th and 20th June reasons for decisions made by the Association as a with the postponed Round 3 fixture, determining it result of the recent COVID lockdown occurring on the would be the least disruptive to the home and away Anzac Day long weekend. fixtures, as opposed to putting it after Round 17 (where 6 clubs would end up playing each other 3 I need to emphasise to all, these COVID lockdowns times in the last 4 rounds of the season). Whilst this may occur again this season and depending upon decision may not be agreeable for some, we the the seriousness of the outbreak, could be longer than Directors believe this is in the best interests of the one week we have already experienced. As a football in the Avon, giving us some flexibility fixture result, these could greatly influence the fixturing wise especially if there is a further lockdown or structure going forward for the remainder of the postponement occurring during the remainder of the season. football season. Whilst the COVID lockdown caused the These are unprecedented times and we as a postponement of Round 3 Anzac Day weekend in the community, as passionate as we are about Avon, it caused significant disruption in both the Australian Rules Football, we need also to be flexible Mortlock Football League and the Central Midlands enough to adapt our process and maybe change our Coastal League resulting in both leagues abandoning way of thinking and doing things to accommodate the the Moora Colts Carnival, so that they can complete situations presented and take advantage of them and their full home and away fixtures for the remainder of make most of those opportunities. the season. Regards, As a result of the decision by 2 of the 4 participating leagues in the Moora Colts Carnival withdrawing, the Ashley Morgan Northern Suns Colts Carnival committee therefore Avon Football Association President determined no option but to cancel the Colts Carnival. This decision, whilst understandable, was of a huge disappointment to the Directors of the Avon Football Association. On a positive note though, I wish to announce that the Avon Football Association will continue to support colts football with Avon’s Cam Snooke being appointed as the Northern Suns Colts coach for the CBH Country Week Colts carnival in Mandurah. Optus WA Football Volunteer of the Year NAB AFL Auskick Volunteer AFL Diversity Ambassador AFL Primary School Ambassador AFL Secondary School Ambassador AFL All Abilities Volunteer Go For 2&5 AFL Junior Coach of the Year AFL Senior Coach of the Year The Optus WA Football Volunteer of the Year is the most prestigious award and will be present- ed to someone who makes an outstanding contribution in a volunteer capacity. The winner of this award will receive a free trip to the AFL Grand Final. T&Cs apply. All finalists for the WA Football Volunteer of the Year awards are invited to the finalists function proir to the Sandover Medal. At this function all award winners will be announced excluding the Optus WA Football Volunteer of the year will be announced. This award will be announced at the 2019 Sandover Medal. WA was the first State to recognise its volunteers on such a large scale. The award’s success has prompted the AFL to run the program nationwide. Anyone involved in football at any level is eligible to be nominated for the award through their local region or district or by the WA Football Commission. WA Football Commission Community Football Manager Josh Bowler said WA had more than 46,000 volunteers participating every week in the game at all levels and without them the game would be lost. “There are so many aspects of our game that just wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteer." “Volunteers are involved at all levels whether it’s in the canteen, umpiring, peeling oranges, coaching or driving their kids to the game. The WA Football Volunteer of the Year program aims to elevate the standing of volunteers to that of a star. Just like you have star players and star coaches we want to recognise star volunteers.”, Mr Bowler said. Please visit thankavolunteer.com.au to nominate a volunteer. BUDGET 2021 AVON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION Quairading Notes Old timers! Welcome to the Bullring for what promises to be an epic day on and off the field. Last week we travelled across to Beverley and managed a clean sweep in both grades of football and the netball. Reserves started strong and maintained the pressure with a four-quarter effort to come away 15 goal victors. The young midfield dominated again and gave plenty of supply to the forwards all day. Lachy Dann and Cody Eva provided a highlight reel with freakish goals, while Jason Colbung Jnr was breaking ankles side stepping opposition players. Reserves awards: 1st Country Wide Insurance Brokers – Rohan Hadlow 2nd RSM – Cody Eva 3rd Les Anderson – Theo Hayden 4th Westcoast Livestock – Brayden Lawrence The league boys were hunting down their fourth win for the season and did not disappoint, controlling possession around the ground convincingly outplaying their opponent. Tom Lee and Fred Clutterbuck lit up the forward line kicking 7 and 4 goals respectively, while Mitch Bell was exceptional in defence giving his opponent nothing while winning plenty of his own ball. League awards: 1st Quairading Earthmoving – Mitch Bell 2nd Quairading Agri Services – Tom Lee 3rd Great Southern Fuel Suppliers – Freddie Clutterbuck 4th Viterra Grain – Steven Payne Best Local – Quairading Smash Repairs – Andrew Walker Special welcome to the returning premiership players of 1990 & 1991, I’m sure there’s plenty of catching up to do and you’ll have two great games of footy to spectate too. Spectators, family and players please join us in the Community Building post game for awards, casserole tea and plenty of carry on as we dust off our best old timer kits and enjoy the festivities into the night. Massive thank you to all volunteers who keep the wheels of our club turning, especially days like today with so much happening, your work does not go unnoticed. Carry on! BUDGET 2021 AVON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION Federal Notes Strap yourself in and pile in the car as we make the long road trip up to the Bull Pen for this Round 7 matchup. Our injury list continues to grow but the attitude and effort maintains throughout both grades. The Reserves had a tough day as a very experienced Cunderdin team out classed us all day. The Young Brigade ran all day with the usual crew (Budas, Patmore) putting in the extras. Wonka made his welcomed return to the side as did the ever graceful Scotty Joy. Jack Wilding put together a BOG performance as Cunderdin ran out winners by 4 Goals. Reserves Awards 1st – Jack Wilding – Sponsored by AG Implements and Quin’s Gourmet Butchers 2nd – Justin Patmore – Sponsored by Trevor and Jenny White and Combined Tyres 3rd – The Reluctant Scott Joy – Sponsored by Ross and Janine Hunter Coaches Award – Zeke Kennedy – Sponsored by Lorna Bloomfield and Boomer Hicks Netball were in the same boat as the boys as they put together a very different looking outfit. They fought hard all day but went down by 14 points to Cunderdin. Netball Awards 1st – Jordan Tester – Sponsored by Hotel 190 and Gourmet Butchers 2nd – Kiara Stone – Sponsored by Ross and Janine Hunter 3rd – Lisa Blair, Jecklyn Wallis, Tiffany Cramer – Sponsored by Purslowe – Tinetti Funeral Homes The league boys went in with another different looking team with another few young boys stepping up to the plate. Captain Courageous Kadyn Beazley fought hard in the middle all day, as did Maverick Hamilton. Seth Rose and Kaden Elliot popped up for a few snags, complimented by Jacky Patto kicking Goal of the Day. Turns out giving Cunderdin a 7 goal head start isn’t the best way to win a game as they ran out 10 goal winners. League Awards 1st - Kadyn Beazley – Sponsored by Quin’s Butchers and Hotel 190 2nd – Jayden Trivanovic – Sponsored by Ross and Janine Hunter and Verlindens Electrics 3rd – Jordan Henderson – Sponsored by Casey Family and Countryside Pest Control Coaches Awards – Rob Anderson – Sponsored by Specialised Tree Services Social News - The Dirt Sheet While immobile on crutches, Jacky Drew has done his best to live a normal life. He was spotted in the bright lights of the big city, defending women’s honour and getting real reptilian on the D Floor. Shane went down with a bad case of the syndesmosis so he did his best to cure himself by polishing off 15 beers on Sunday. Macca got some low grade dentistry done and was spotted with a dart sticking out of his tooth hole. Last but not least, our cult hero – John “The Wiz” Dietrich was spotted at training so Quairading might need to clear some more space as the gates will be blocked to see the return of the King. We welcome all Feds family and friends down to Hotel 190 afterwards to enjoy some beverages and the best banter money can buy. Love your friends, love your family and love your footy. Go Feds! BUDGET 2021 AVON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION Beverley Notes Welcome to Beverley where today we take on Cunderdin, and as I write this, the forecast looks like we could be in for some wet weather footy and netball! A good day to enjoy the hot foods on offer from the canteen! Last Saturday we had a great turnout when we hosted Quairading with the junior football and netball played prior to the seniors. Unfortunately, Quairading were far too good for us across all three senior games! Netball was the closet game of the day with our girls putting in another good performance and only going down by 7 goals. Our Reserves side showed some improvement but in the end were still not strong enough to stop the onslaught of Quairading. The players continue to put in a 100% effort though and will only get better as the season progresses. The injury Gods once again were not on our side early in the League game with former coach Harry Sinclair suffering a broken collarbone in the first home ten minutes of his first game back for 2021. We wish Harry all the best for a speedy recovery! The day only got worse as the firepower of the Bulls key forwards were far too good and received plenty of the supply from their strong mids. A disappointed Coach decided the awards were more deserving going to some of our hardworking volunteers on the day, which are listed below. BUDGET 2021 AVON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION Cunderdin Notes The Drought is over. Last week the club recorded three brilliant victories over Federals on our home turf. Our netballers produced a gutsy performance over the fillies resulting in another win. Keep notching them up girls. Our ressies boys came out firing from the get go with three early unanswered goals in the first quarter. Some much needed pace and skill from our younger fellas complemented our goal kicking which meant we had our noses in front at the main break. Our second half was nothing more than a hard fought scrap, tackling pressure all over the ground caused panic in opposition ball movement which resulted in a three goal win. Overall a great achievement to all involved. With not being able to win a chook raffle for the past three years, our league side showed us a style of footy that hasn’t been produced for a while. Seven unanswered goals in the first term set the tone for the rest of the match. With our midfield creating play and maintaining most of the ball possession throughout, this gave our forwards first use of the footy which resulted in scoreboard pressure. Our ability and work rate was at another level. Some great signs coming out of last Sunday’s performances but now we roll on to today’s task against the Beverley. Let’s see if we can squash the Redbacks. AWARDS Netball Combined Tyres – Kadri Siro Cunderdin Co-op - Kimmy Burton Ressies Spearwool – Olly (Bulldog) Mcleary Donavans Engineering – Tim (sauce) Fulwood Cunderdin Co-Op – Hayden (Better Stewart) Stewart Andrew Irving – Austin (smithy) Smith League Earthstyle contracting – Josh (Burkes Backyard) Burke DKT Cunderdin – Zac (ZB) Bowles Baxters Rural Centre – Kane (Dolmio) Corsini Kamballie Stud – Todd (Kick a Goal) Rogers Livestock and Land – John (Truck) Levien From The Beak It was all happening last week, with our very own Italian Stallion (Kane Corsini) playing his 100th game for the club, our league full forward (Todd Rogers) kicking nine flour bags, our gun east wester and heavy hauler (John Levien) throwing up at half time not only because of his hard work around the ground but also his hard drinking preparation skills on Saturday night, and yours truly grabbing an average of 8 hours sleep over the weekend (not work related). Each and every one one of these achievements should be awarded the highest of accolades. I have spoken to the club’s president and he has agreed with me that we should start awarding a tool of the week award for obvious reasons. So go on, have a crack. This week I took it upon myself in awarding Kane (slug) Corsini Tool of The Week for his actions of informing the playing group of his own 100th game. We couldn’t wipe that Dolmio grin off Kane’s face all week. Well done to you lad, keep striving for personal excellence and keep on reminding us on how good you are, but please if you’re going to tell us something do it in a timely manor as time is money mate, can’t afford to lose it. Have a ripper day in Beverley folks and for any family, friends and supporters, we’ll be heading to Greenhills for a few frothies and awards after the game. HOT PIES BUDGET 2021 AVON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION Railways Notes Welcome to all Members, Players and Supporters to Henry St Oval for our Round 7 clash with the Kellerberrin/Tammin KATS. Over the past years the two clubs have had some great physical battles with a healthy rivalry forming between us, and today should be no exception so we wish all players the best today. The club would also like to congratulate Chris Holmes and Jake Clarke (little) on playing their 50th game for the club today. Holmesy has been an integral part of the League side since coming up from Kalamunda in 2017, culminating in a Premiership in 2018. Chris has also been rewarded for his dedication and loyalty to Railways being chosen as 2021 Club Captain alongside Mitch Heitia. Little Jake has also been a vital part of the club playing both League and Reserves since 2016, we wish you both the best of luck today and trust your teammates will get behind you and get the 4 points over the KATS today. Last week saw Railways take on the undefeated York Roos in both grades with the Ressys kicking off the day unfortunately going down by 59 points to a very strong Roos team. The league game saw Railways start well against the top of the table York and only found themselves 5 points down at quarter time after a strong effort. In Rowan Garlett’s 50th game the boys seemed to show a real endeavour to get to the ball and man up. York steadied in the second quarter and went in at half time leading by 21 points. The Bombers kicked the first goal of the third quarter and the score was back to 15 points. York then took control and kicked 5 goals in a row and led by 8 goals halfway through the term. Spectators then saw a fightback that saw the Bombers finish the term with 6 goals and turn for the final quarter 13 points down. The final quarter saw Railways fight hard and kick four goals to two, falling 6 points short at the final siren. There was some hope when Jermaine Davis Jnr (Mainy) took a ping from the right forward flank and kicked truly to bring the Bombers within a goal—Mainy hobbled off over the boundary line as he had also pinged his hamstring. Congratulations for the effort given and we look forward to seeing the team continue to improve in the coming weeks.
