The warranty does not apply to damages caused by improper use and omitted or incorrect care. This warranty is valid from receipt of the Emma MOTION Base and the warranty applies against Emma Sleep GmbH. Statutory revocation and warranty rights shall apply unchanged. After you are done with using it for good, please give your Emma MOTION Base to your local waste management provider for correct disposal. Warranty Disposal GB NL/BE DE GB NL DE 15 14 PACEMAKERS: Some products contain neodymium magnets, which might interfere with device such as pacemakers, intensive care instruments and other devices that are sensitive to magnetic fields. It is STRONGLY recommended that the owners of such medical devices consult with their physician before using products containing neodymium magnets. It is also possible that some pacemakers interpret the optional vibrations of the massage functions incorrectly as a movement/physical activity. This occurs frequently with products that generate a vibrating motion, which might not interfere with the pacemaker. Please consult with your doctor before you use the massage function. ADDITIONAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Rollers (optional leg accessories) are equipped with brakes to prevent unintended movements. Even if they are locked and cannot roll, the rollers may slide. Head and foot motors with enabled activation serve for lowering the mattress by running them in only with the force of gravity and never by actively being pulled it down. This helps minimise crushing points. LIFTING/LOWERING MECHANISMS: The lifting/lowering function exerts a low humming noise during operation. This is normal. During the operation, the lifting wheels touch the platform support of the base. This can result in metal contacting metal or metal contac- ting plastic. It causes a slight tension of the movable components and the resonance is reduced to a minimum. If excessive noises or vibrations occur, please revert the movement of the base (to the top or bottom) by means of the remote control. This should align the activation mechanisms of the base to the correct operating position. In normal operation of the base, the wheels, which allow the bed to keep the distance from the wall, contact the steel platform supports of the base, which causes a contact noise. When weight is placed on, removed from or shifted on the base, this can make an audible contact noise when the wheels make contact. This is normal. MATERIALS: The adjustable Emma MOTION Base comprises various materials, among them wood, metals, plastics and fabrics. Tension, pressure or motion work on the frame. Safety measures and instructions on use NOTICE: Important safety information Please read all instructions before using your adjustable base. Please hold on to this instruction. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCKS, BURNS, FIRE OR INJURIES: Connect the bed base to an overvoltage protection device (not included in the delivery) for the optimal level of safety and optimal operation. The bed base should be plugged only directly into a wall socket or an overvoltage protection device (strongly recommended). Always pull the mains plug out of the socket before you perform maintenance on parts of the base. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, pull out the mains plug from the socket before cleaning. For safe disconnection, ensure that the base is in a flat position and all motors are switched off, and then pull the mains plug out of the socket. Keep the mains cable away from heated surfaces. Never operate the Emma MOTION Base if the air openings are blocked. Keep the air openings clear of lint, hair and similar. Do not let objects fall into an opening and do not put objects into them. Stop using the bed base and contact an authorised service centre if a cable or plug of the base is damaged or if it does not work correctly or has fallen into the water. Use this bed base only for the intended use as described in this manual. Do not use accessories/add-ons that are not recommended by the manufacturer. An in-depth inspec- tion is required if the bed base is used by or near children, convalescent patients, handicapped persons or pets. Incorrect connection of the device can result in electrical shocks, electrical fires or faulty operation of this bed base. If the plug does not fit into the socket, please contact a qualified electrician to have him install a suitable socket. Unauthorised modification of a wall socket or overvoltage protection device or not using overvoltage protection may invalidate the part of your warranty that applies to the electronics. PETS AND CHILDREN: Dispose of all packaging materials immediately, as they can represent a risk of suffocation to small children and pets. To prevent injuries, it is not recommended to permit children and small pets to play on or under the bed. Children should not use the Emma MOTION Base without supervision by an adult. GB NL/BE DE GB NL DE 17 16 Safety measures and instructions on use TO LER ANCE : The Emma MOTION Base is designed and manufactured so it works within the defined quality control parameters. The base is subject to careful and strict inspections during the quality control process to ensure that it works within these standards when operated normally. Normal use for regular operation is defined as follows: The adjustable base is to be operated with a mattress and a load. Test procedures require lifecycle endurance tests with a distribu- ted load of up to 120 kg. The angle (referred to as α in Figure 1) for different configurations of the mattress support platform between the rear section and the flat section must be ± 3°, which is equivalent of a tolerance of up to 1 ½ inches. The angle (referred to as β in Figure 1) for different configurations of the mattress support platform between the flat section and the foot section must be ± 3°, which is equivalent of a tolerance of up to ¾ inch. An adjustable base con- forms to the manufacturer’s quality control standards when it can be assumed that it will stay within these attributed tolerances. “N E W PR ODUCT SMELL”: Some people notice a slight odour coming from their new adjustable base – the source of this smell can by our manufacturing process. This odour is normal and usually disappears before you receive the product. However, sometimes the small can still be noticed. It normally disappears after a few weeks if the product and the surroundings are ventilated sufficiently. BR E AK I NGIN PER IOD : You can shorten the breaking-in period by simply spending time in the adjustable bed, for example, to read, watch television or play with your children or grandchildren. The additional movement helps the adjustable base to respond to weight and temperature changes. Some of the materials in our adjustable bases such as woods, metals, and plas- tics that are used for the platforms, the frame and the components respond sensitively to the moisture concentration and temperature and can cause noises in colder environments. H OME USE AND HOSPI TAL STAN DAR D S : The adjustable Emma MOTION Bases are designed exclusively for home use. The sprung base was not designed as a hospital bed and does not meet hospital standards. Please do not use this sprung base with oxygen therapy instruments for which tents are used nor anywhere near explosive devices. M A S S AGE MODE AND SE T U P SI T E : The massage function makes a noise during operation. This is normal. With increasing intensity of the massage, the noise gets louder. The volume of this sound directly depends on the setup site. If, for example, the demonstration takes place in an exhibition room, the environmental noises cover some of the massage noise. If the bed is installed in a domestic setting on wooden floors, with or without carpeting, the massage noise is louder in contrast. If the fastening screws are not tightened firmly, vibrations or noises can be caused by the outer bedframe. The massage intensity of levels 1 to 3 represents the rotations of the motor per minute. Level 3 means the maximum rotation speed. However, this does not mean that the vibrations are felt the strongest. Depending on the material and the thickness of the mattress, as well as the position of the user, the vibrations are felt differently. We recommend the user to find the best suited setting for the massage intensity. It is important to understand the physics of oscillations. In the same way as a motor can run unsteadily in idle, also the vibrations change with increasing rotation speed. Figure 1 GB NL/BE DE GB NL DE 19 18 WEI G H T LIMI T VALU E S: This product is not laid out for weights of more than 750 pounds including mattress and bedsheets. The sprung base carries this weight structurally, provided that it is evenly distributed over the bed base. The Emma MOTION Base is not laid out for supporting or lifting this weight solely in the head or foot area. Exceeding this weight limitation can cause damage on the bed and/or injuries and result in the loss of warranty. I M P O R TAN T RU LE S OF CONDUCT AND WH AT YOU CAN DO : - Connect the adjustable base to an overvoltage device. - Distribute the weight evenly if you sleep on a divided assembly. Uneven distribution of the weight can lead to the base lifting unevenly. - Contact customer service if you have technical problems. Do not try to push down the base, as this can lead to damages on the motors or the frame. - Use mild soap and water to clean your adjustable base if there are stains. - Please note that the adjustable bases are recommended for use with mattresses that are suitable for adjusting. - After use and in between the default settings, lower the base to the flat (horizontal) position. WH AT YOU SHOU LD NOT DO : - You should not sit on corners/edges of the base because this can deform the frame, supports or the foam. - Do not flip the base onto the side, this can damage the legs and/or leg screws. - Do not stand or jump on the adjustable base, as this can damage the frame and motors. - Do not pull the base to move it. Pulling the base can damage the frame, or cause the nuts/bolts to come off. - Do not climb onto or get off from the adjustable base while the head and/or foot part is in the lifting position. Climb onto or get off from your adjustable base only while it is in the flat (horizontal) position. - Do not modify the Emma MOTION Base. This will invalidate the warranty. - Pushing down the head or foot part in the lifting position can cause damage on the frame and motors. Safety measures and instructions on use C OU PLED OPER ATION : A lag of up to 1.5 seconds between the individual base joints may occur in the operation of two coupled Emma MOTION Bases. FABR IC CAR E : To extend the lifetime of your fabric, protect it, if possible, from direct exposure to the sun. Wipe down areas for stain removal with a slightly damp sponge or vacuum it off with a soft brush to remove particles. Keep a distance of at least 30 cm from direct sources of heat. For a more thorough cleaning, dab off the spilled fluid with a clan, dry cloth. Dampen a clean cloth with lukewarm water and wipe the area off. Do not dampen the area excessively. A soft brush can be used to remove deep-seated dirt. Prevent scratches by brushing only softly. Dampen a clean cloth with lukewarm water and wipe off residues. Let dry outdoors in the shade and outside of the reach of direct heat sources. If tough stains remain visible after cleaning, please contact a specialist. PR ODUCT VALU E S: The lifting motors are not laid out for continuous operation longer than 2 minutes within a period of 18 minutes or about 10% of the operating period. The attempt to bypass or exceed this value, shortens the product’s lifetime and can result in the loss of warranty. The massage motors are not laid out for working without interruption for longer than 30 minutes at a time. Please let the massage system rest for 30 minutes after the automatic switch-off of the massage before restarting it.
