About the position : S uitably qualified and registered counselors with a passion for working children and youth are invited to apply for this multi - faceted, exciting position as School Counsellor The counsel l or will provide support to learners aged 4 years - 18 years old These learners may be experiencing a broad range of challenges such as childhood trauma, family relationship difficulties, family separation, anxiety, behavioral difficulties, family violence or other forms of psychosocial needs If you would like to make a difference and help to achieve our mandate to break the cycle of poverty, this position is for you Key Responsibilities and Requirements : Reporting to the Dean of Student Development, the Counsellor will be responsible for the following : 1. Supporting the psychological, academic and social development of students through various techniques which include, but is not limited to individual and/or group interventions, 2. Providing proactive interventions and assisting students with personal problems to avoid student altercations through social skills training, 3. Conducting trend analysis and promoting data driven interventions and constant evaluation of practices, 4. Collaborate with the academic team on school - wide behavioural interventions systems across multiple grades 5. The School Counsellor is an internal consultant and second tier referral person for classroom behavioural challenges and will be the escalation officer to external specialists for learning challenges and psychological evaluations, 6. Attending to student wellness and mental health, while working with all relevant stakeholders The candidates must fulfill the following requirements : 1. A relevant university degree as Counsellor, with Psychology part of the study field 2. Registered with the HPCSA as Counsellor 3. Proven experience AS School Counsellor, 4. A background in urban education will be advantageous, 5. Police Clearance, 6. Strong Interpersonal Communication Skills, with the ability to Multi - task and collaborate at all levels, 7. High Level of Integrity and the ability to adhere to ethical and moral standards as counsellor, 8. Public Speaking and Facilitation skills.
