Aflac believes companies must g ive back to their neighborhoods, communities, nation and world. The Avera Race Against Cancer was just another event to me until August 2019. I heard the words, “You have breast cancer.” Thankfully, when I was in my mid - twenties, I had the opportunity to purchase an Aflac Cancer policy. Since that time, I’ve changed careers, but I was able to maintain that cancer policy when I came to Avera. Little did I know how important those two decisions would be. First, the Aflac Cancer policy reimbursed me for an annual cancer screening; whether it was a pap smear, mammogram, colonoscopy or skin ca ncer screening. I filled out a simple form and Aflac sent a check to help cover out of pocket costs. Back to 2019 ; it was during a regular screening mammogram, the radiologist detected a change in my left breast. Further testing confirmed a diagnosis of Triple Negative Breast Cancer. The good news in all of this was the tumor was small and treatable. The Aflac policy helped cover travel costs, hospital stays, surgical coverage and more. The support we received from Karla Kendrick and her staff was phenom enal. It was only a quick phone call and most of our questions were answered and if they couldn’t be, Karla made sure to follow up. In a very difficult and confusing time, A flac provided care beyond the bedside to make us feel better about all of the thing s we were dealing with and a network of support in a time of need. I would encourage anyone to invest in an Aflac Cancer policy; for just a few dollars a month, you can have peace of mind if you or your family members ever face a journey through cancer.
