REUSE RETAIL & ONLINE STORE ASSISTANT Victoria, BC $15.65-20/hr | 20-36 hours/wk (funding contingent) Possible hours include: Thursday-Saturday, 10:00am-6:30pm and Tuesday 5:30pm-8:30pm Reports to: Executive Director, Ashley Howe Summary The Reuse Retail & Online Store Assistant position provides a nice balance of physical and online activities. Physical activities include: providing engaging and helpful customer service, ringing people up at the till, helping Creative Reuse Centre visitors find treasures, creating excitement about SUPPLY’s mission and offerings (workshops, events, programs, etc), providing guidance for volunteers, processing and organizing donations, taking initiative to create organizational structures, creating signage, merchandising — all to encourage and inspire reuse! Online activities include: conducting pricing research, supporting the online store by photographing and posting goods, supporting SEO, social media & newsletter marketing, POS management, and coming up with exciting promotions that attract customers. About SUPPLY Victoria SUPPLY Victoria is a registered society non-profit organization whose mission is to divert art materials from the landfill and put them into the hands of people who need them most (like artists, students, teachers, and nonprofits). SUPPLY does this work by: ➢ redistributing used art supplies, ➢ offering creative reuse education to youth and adults, ➢ providing low-cost rental space to the arts & culture community, ➢ and supporting the creation and presentation of creative reuse artwork. Since 2018, SUPPLY has been able to divert over 2,000 pounds of materials from the landfill for creative reuse and provided hands-on, zero-waste, art education to over 750 students. Role & Responsibilities: ● Keyholder responsible for opening and closing store ● Customer service ○ Greet/assist shoppers, play your part in creating a compassionate and inclusive environment ○ Help visitors find items and answer questions about materials, pricing, and SUPPLY’s nonprofit mission ● Cash register/POS management ○ Correctly and accurately operate a cash register, ringing up sales, troubleshooting customer payment issues ○ Reconcile/balance cash register at the end of each day ● Donation processing ○ Be very familiar with SUPPLY’s Material Donation Acceptance Guidelines ○ Process donations, kindly and assertively refusing donations we cannot accept ○ Unload donations, help sort, package, and store materials ○ Take initiative to educate yourself about unfamiliar materials ○ Research and price donations, provide input on how to improve donation & pricing processes ● Floor retail ○ Stay up to date on all shop procedures, special promotions, and protocols ○ Integrate donations into shop’s inventory system and removes items from the floor when alerted that an online purchase has been made as soon as possible ○ Encourage monetary donations at point of sale ○ Work to meet retail goals ○ Takes responsibility for cleanliness and organization of space ○ Sweep and mop floors at the end of each day ○ Identify stock that will maximize income through SUPPLY’s e-commerce department (ability to identify higher value brands or items) ● Online Store Management ○ Manage stock inventory ○ Operate Instagram store ○ Post to used retail site (UsedVictoria, Facebook, etc) ○ Take product photography and edit photos ○ Curate and package to-go kits ○ Package and manage pick-up and delivery orders ○ Communicate with bike courier service ○ Identify stock that will maximize income through SUPPLY’s e-commerce ● Outreach & Communications ○ Help SUPPLY increase its reach by encouraging donations (material and financial), newsletter sign ups, and social media follows ○ Create and post content for SUPPLY’s Instagram account (cross posting to Facebook) ● Opportunities to help curate reuse art shows or plan creative reuse workshops if interested ● Team work ○ Inform the ED about shop issues and requests support when necessary ○ Support volunteers in their learning, assigns appropriate tasks based on their experience and preferences, encourages their skill sets and passions ○ At the end of your shift, take any important notes relevant to the executive director or volunteers Qualifications & Skills: ● Passionate about sustainability, creativity, and inclusion ● Thrives in a nonprofit thrift store environment where stock is constantly changing ● Trust-worthy, reliable, and on-time ● Proficient in computer skills, familiarity with Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel ● Some customer service or retail experience preferred ● Likes people and numbers ● SEO and social media marketing experience preferred ● Is a multi-tasker, able to manage multiple priorities ● Able to work in a team-oriented environment as well as work independently ● Physical dexterity (must be able to lift 40 lbs) ● Ensures the health & safety of all staff, volunteers, and visitors ● Able to manage conflict with grace, patience, and compassion ● Open to feedback from supervisor ● Familiar with SUPPLY’s mission, vision, values, and programs to be able to confidently answer questions about their nonprofit work We welcome any applicants to request accommodations or support for the interview process.
