THE PIECE MARTY ONE PTA CREW 1. THE SKETCH Do a couple horrible tags, and practice some shitty lines before you start. Have a little fun, because this will get frustrating. 2. Start with a rough sketch. Build the letters out of shapes to easily maintain the structure and create balance. 3. Add the background color first, leaving the initial sketch intact. You’re gonna need to see your letters. THE FILL-IN 4. Add in the first color, the bright orange, staying within the purple sketch lines. 5. Bring in the second color, still maintaining the structure of the letters. 6. and the 3rd color. 7. And now the fourth color, and not that you will EVER take the time to read this but I made the colors to look like dessert so MAYBE you would pay attention for 10 minutes. 8. THE OUTLINE Here’s where it gets difficult. Practice some lines off to the side. And then do your outline. You want to adjust the distance from the wall with the can and also the speed at which you apply the line to create a clean outline. I’ll walk you through it... 9. . A NOTE ON SHADOWS/3Ds You want to create a shadow of the letters. An off-center version of the outline, using horizontal equidistant lines from the axis points all moving in the same Direction and angle. 10. Mimic the lines of the THE SHADOW/3D outline to create a shadow. 11. Fill the shadow in with the black outline color. You’ll want to use the fill-in colors to fix the drips and mistakes you filthy, disgusting toy. 12. THE BORDER This can be tricky and it will also help hide your shitty outlines. You will add a single, thin border to the outside of the black outline, trying to create clean, thin, one-line strokes. HIGHLIGHTS 13. The highlight. This separates the men from the toys. It’s a one-line white border on the edge of the inside of the outline. If we do get this far and its not a complete wash, maybe we skip it. FINAL TAGS 14. OK. HERE WE ARE. TIME TO SIGN YOUR HORRIBLE PIECE. Make it small and not too crazy. Don’t try to do a stylized tag, YOU ARE NOT READY. Do the simplest, cleanest grade-school letters. ONE STROKE AT A TIME.
