Report Questionnaire FSC Q2 In December 2021 we outrolled this questionnaire among the students of Applied Sciences. There were 398 responses, it was not mandatory to fill in questions so not all questions are filled in by every student. There were prizes which were given to three random students as a motivation to fill in the questionnaire. All the questions and their conclusions are listed below together with some ideas for the next questionnaire and solutions for some problems. We have learned a lot from outrolling this questionnaire and will take it into account for the next questionnaire planned for the end of Q3/start of Q4. The questionnaire was divided into parts, every portofolio asked questions relevant to their portfolios. General questions What do you study? Here we can see that not many bachelor applied physics students filled in the questionnaire, whilst it is a large part of the tnw students. For the next questionnaire we will promote the questionnaire more among those students. What year did you start your current study program? Student motivation How much do you agree with the following statements? Here the students could scale a bar and fill in form 0 to 100 on how much they agree with the following statements. Here we can see that students appreciate working with others and that mandatory exercises/tests increase their motivation for a course. The latter is an interesting statement as this was unexpected. This leads to a follow up question in the next questionnaire if students want mandatory exercises/tests in courses. Online tools & education How satisfied are you with the current quality of online education tools? Students could slide a scale from 0 to 100. Do you prefer online or in person (on campus) workgroups? 3.66% chooe online, 62.82% chose in person & 33.52% chose hybrid. How likely are you to ask a question during an online workgroup? How satisfied are you with the current quality of online education tools? The students could slide a scale from zero to a hundred. The mean is about 62.30 with a standard deviation of 19.01. Study places Do you encounter difficulties finding a study space during the exam week? Many students also study at home during the exam period. Why do you come to campus to study? The students could click on more than one option. Some students also say that it is easier to separate study from private life. Where do you study if you study on campus? For the next questionnaire we would also like to incorporate the Leiden and Rotterdam campuses as the bachelors happen on both campuses. We also want to make an online widget/page so that students can see which rooms are free to study in. Student feedback To what extent do you agree with these statements Where do you give your feedback? Do you feel things are done with your feedback? The students could slide a scale from zero to a hundred. The mean is about 53.60 with a standard deviation of 19.80. Do you know what the FSC is and what we do? Diversity How included do you feel in general when participating in any community/project groups/gatherings? 1. Based on the survey it is clear that both BSc. and MSc. programs of Nano Biology need more attention to ensure that they feel included in AS community. Since it has higher standard deviation, 1SD would have a spread-out range of 40-70 which means most of the students feel partially inclusive. 2. Other programs highlighted in yellow needs little more attention to achieve greater inclusivity among the students. 3. For Bsc. TNW and MSc. SEC since they were only few responses there is a chance that we got the sample from those students who had a better experience. So, there cannot be made any concrete conclusion. 4. Overall, 90% of the programs need attention to help students feel more inclusive and Nano Biology needs to be on priority. Which are the reasons you think makes you not included ? It is clear that Race, Disability, Gender and Age sum up to be more that 70% of the total possible reasons provided in the survey. So, the focus while creating community groups these factors must be given utmost priority to ensure nobody feels alone while working in a group For example: At least 2 girls, 2 students from same race and not very high age distribution in every group. I perceive that even after ensuring the most optimized combination, open communication is essential to understand each other. So, activities must be organised to these community groups which can lead to an open communication. Would you like to have a free space (D&I Space) to share your own experiences and perspectives with Open Talks sessions? If yes, how often should we have this Open Talks with fellow AS community? If no, what do you think is the best way to improve inclusivity on campus Since most of the students are not interested in the idea of Free Space, ● The best way would be to create diverse groups within Applied Science. ● However, D&I officer can start with 30 mins ‘Free Space’ open talk sessions once a week for the interested students as it could provide them a unique D&I community environment to freely discuss their experiences. Other Interesting comments · Have the option for people to anonymously send in experiences, since that lowers the initial bar. (Could be done as part of ‘Free Space’ idea) · I think it's good for inclusivity when groups for a group project are assigned randomly. Prevents awkward situations and helps people get out of their usual bubble Fact Check Results (Useful for the DI Officer) Do you know that AS Faculty has a Diversity and Inclusion Officer? Do you want to be part of D&I Team ? ● Awareness on the AS D&I initiatives need to publicized ● Since not many are interested, there is no need to create a team by the D&I Officer
