HEART ~ PROMOTE THE DIGNITY & WORTH OF EACH OTHER. PARTNERSHIP ~ FACILITATE CHANGE THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS, COLLABORATION AND ADVOCACY. Dear friends of Opportunity Partners, 2023 was a very special year for OP as it was the 70th anniversary of providing services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Twin Cities area. It’s hard to believe how far OP has come over the last 70 years from its humble beginnings in a small house in Richfield, where 15 people were served with the help of 8 volunteers and one staff person. Today, OP is a multi-faceted, non-profit organization that provides employment, residential and enrichment services to over 1,000 people. We are proud of the impact Opportunity Partners has made and will continue to make on those who will benefit from our services. On the pages that follow, you will meet Ann and Charlene, who utilize our employment support, Peggy who has found her voice through OP enrichment classes, and residents from one of our group homes that love to be social. These individuals are just a snapshot of the success stories we see every day because of your support of Opportunity Partners. We couldn’t provide the quality and compassionate services we do without you! And now, we are pleased to present the 2023 Report to the Community. Sincerely, MESSAGE FROM THE CEOS William G. This summer, in addition to BBQ socials, residents David and Steven were chosen to throw out the first pitch at a “town ball” baseball game in Hamel, MN. Residential options include group homes, independent apartments with on-site support, and in-home services with life skills support for those who live independently or with family. David and Steven were surrounded by their friends and OP staff, who enjoyed the baseball game and cheered them on. "We like living in the group home because we have the opportunity to plan outings with our friends." ~ Group home residents Richard, David, Frank, Bobby, Doug, August and Tony Ann enjoys her time at the Koch Campus where she is currently working in Production Services. She continues to improve her abilities and confidence each day and hopes to have more competitive employment opportunities in the future. EMPLOYMENT HIGHLIGHTS Charlene works at Burger King where she is loved by her co-workers and an integral part of their team. She has been employed there for 5 years and enjoys her job as a dishwasher. Charlene is called an “angel”, and the staff says they “don’t know what they would do without her!” “I have achieved my own personal goals and continue to work on those goals each day I am working.” ~ Ann "She is awesome, simply awesome." ~ Sham, Charlene’s Supervisor Opportunity Partners provides a wide range of service and support options, from skill-building in center-based employment, working with a job coach as part of a supported employment team at local businesses, and working with individualized supports in competitive, integrated employment. ENRICHMENT SERVICES Peggy, who is enrolled in remote enrichment classes, has found her “voice” with the support of these programs. She has gone from being very quiet in class to now freely answering questions when asked and saying ‘hi’ to her peers. Peggy’s progression and enthusiasm has been amazing to see since she started the remote enrichment classes. Josh initially had no interest in any of his in- person class activities, preferring to watch movies alone and sleep. That was until the class started planting a garden outside of Koch; now he is engaged, smiling and loves to get his hands dirty! “Enrichment classes, whether in-person or online, offer valuable benefits for individuals.” ~ Amanda Weimer, Support Coordinator Specialist "Josh was having a great time today working in the garden, we are so happy to see him involved!" ~ Mindy Otis, Manager of Day Services Enrichment services help participants expand their talents, build friendships and participate in their community by exploring areas of interest including cooking, art, leisure activities, community service, independent living, and job readiness.
