Windhill21 Summer Trail River Stort Challenge This summer, the Windhill School Association (WSA) would like to challenge everyone to walk as far as they can from Bishop’s Stortford along the River Stort! There are 3 challenge levels to try and complete – o Bronze – 4.6 miles/7.5km - Bishop’s Stortford station to Sawbridgeworth station o Silver - 7 miles/11.2km - Bishop’s Stortford station to Harlow Mill Station o Gold – 8.7 miles/14km - Bishop’s Stortford station to Harlow Town station You can try and do a challenge in a single day, or do it in stages – for each one you complete, send us a photo to wsa@windhill.herts.sch.uk of your finishing point on the ri ver, and we will send you a certificate to print at home! Can anyone do all 3 ? At the end of the summer (6/9/2020) , we will pick 3 entries at random to win a gift voucher prize! There is a fun eye spy challenge for children to enjoy, too! What can you spo t when you walk by the river? As with all our challenges, there is an element of fundraising here – if you would like to be sponsored to complete this challenge, please check out our Crowdfunding Page here: https://www. rocketfund.org/windhill21 - summer - trail - challenge and ask your family and friends to sponsor you! This is not compulsory, but if everybody was able to donate the cost of a cup of coffee or an ice cream when they do the challenge, we would be able to raise much needed funds to help the school to replace the minibus. Safety: The path along the river is mostly flat , but not accessible for scooters or pushchairs all the way along. The route from Harlow Mill to Harlow Town is probably the easiest for scooting and pushchairs. People do cycle the entire route, but this is entirely at your own risk. Since the route is by a river, there is obviously a danger of falling into the water so be careful! Follow social distancing guidance to the best of your ability throughout the walk! *Please remember to take a mask with you for the return journey on the train.* Refreshments and Toilets: We cannot guarantee that any of these pubs will be open on the day you walk, so please check the websites before you set off! At Spellbrook, there is the Three Horse shoes pub: https://www.chefandbrewer.com/pubs/hertfordshire/three - horse - shoes/ There are no pubs or toilets near the route between Spellbrook and Sawbridgeworth. You can walk a short way into Sawbridgeworth to find a variety of establishments, the closest of which is The George IV https://www.mcmullens.co.uk/george - iv At Harlow Mill there is the Beefeater pub https://www.beefeater.co.uk/en - gb/locations/essex/harlow - mill At Harlow Town, there is the Moorhen pub https://www.greeneking - pubs.co.uk/pubs/essex/moorhen/ Other Information: For a more detailed look at the start of the trail, see this leaflet by Mr Forgham! https://www.bishopsstortfordtc.gov.uk/sites/default/files/basic_pages/Waterside %20Stortford%20Trail%205.pdf The route: All walks start from Bishop’s Stortford Train station and are intended to end at another train station (Sawbridgeworth, Harlow Mill, or Harlow Town) As you leave the station behind you, cross the car park to find the silver bridge across the river. The p ath starts here – turn left, and walk along the river, following the footpath all the way. There will be roads to cross, but the river will guide you all the way!
