RYEBANK FIELDS @ CHORLTON ARTS FESTIVAL 2021 • 11-19 SEPTEMBER • PROGRAMME OF EVENTS 11th - 19th September: Exhibition of photos and visual works exploring the impact of climate change on extreme weather across the globe in 2021, life facing destruction of ancient woodlands on HS2 camps, paintings by Amy Payton-Edwards and more. Saturday 11th September @ 14:00: Protest samba workshop led by members of XR Manchester samba band. Bring along your percussion instruments, big or small, or borrow ours (limited amount) and join in! Limited capacity; email mcrsamba@protonmail.com to register in advance. Sunday 12th September @ 14:00: Sonic meditation led by sound artist Kelly Jayne Jones. Rocks, singing bowls, various objects, electronic sounds, the natural environment of the fields, and Ke all come together to create an immersive transcendental experience. Monday 13th September @ 19:00: Screening of 'Lost Along the Line' - a documentary film uncovering the devastating impact of the HS2 rail project on England's last remaining ancient woodlands, ft. Benjamin Ward, Chris Packham, and more. Tuesday 14th September @ 19:00: Screening of Operation Solstice - a documentary film recounting the story of how 420 people were arrested on 1 June 1985 on their way to Stonehenge to hold the 11th People's Free Festival. Using video footage, the police radio log, photographs and personal testimony to recreate what became known as the "Battle of the Beanfield". Wednesday 15th September @ 19:00: Screening of 'A Wild Wonderful World' - a brand new film exploring the history and natural phenomena of Ryebank Fields created by members of the Ryebank community. Available to view throughout the remainder of the festival on request, between midday and 8PM. Thursday 16th September 05:00: Dawn Chorus listening circle. Ryebank is home to a vast variety of bird life, so get up bright and early and come down to the fields for one of the most magnificent and all-encompassing dawn choruses you've ever experienced. 18:00: Dawn chorus recording surround-sound audio playback. Experience the morning's dawn chorus captured in surround-sound and presented through a quadrant of speakers in the Ryebank community camp bell tent. Friday 17th September 18:00: Dance workshop - guided expressive movement exploration with nature influences, led by dancer and activist Joanna Freeman. Bring your bodies and participate, or just spectate! 20:00: Nymphs of Nature - an enticing visual embodiment of nature through the intricate motions of expressive contemporary dance, performed by Joanna Freeman and Beth Meadows. 21:00: Come on a journey through the realms of Ryebank Fields as the local witch lets you in on the secret spaces, this wild haven has to offer. Discover tumultuous trees and prickly plants as you enter a new and ancient world. Celebrations will continue at our final destination where you might even be served a special brew from the witches' cauldron! Saturday 18th September 15:00: The famous Alexandra Park drumming circle takeover Ryebank with their infectous, transcendental rhythms, vibrations and euphoric dancing. Feel free to bring along your acoustic instruments and join in! 17:00: Words of Resistance - An environmentally-themed night of acoustic folk music and poetry from local musicians and poets, hosted by Amy Payton-Edwards. Sunday 19th September 09:00: Morning guided soundwalk led by The Manchester Ear (Hayley Suviste & Ryan Woods). 14:00: Protest samba workshop #2 (see previous, Sat 11th). 19:30: Evening guided soundwalk led by The Manchester Ear.
