Dear Parents: Congratulations! Your child’s teacher has registered their classroom for the I Love to Read Challenge, brought to you by WSBT22 and the St. Joseph County Public Library. I Love to Read Challenge encourages children to read as much as possible outside the classroom! Last year, more than 11,000 children in 520 classrooms read more than 5,000,000 minutes! Isn’t that amazing! We hope that you will encourage and support your child by allowing him/her to read to you, and to read to your child as much as possible (yes, those minutes count too!). Help your child keep track of the minutes he/she reads at home daily (non-text book, non- assigned reading) by filling out the calendar log your child brought home. Keep the log on the refrigerator, the bathroom mirror or a prominent place in your home. And track and celebrate your child’s successes during the month of February! What’s in it for the kids? The student at each grade level, K–6, who reads the most will receive a $50 gift card from the St. Joseph Public Library. The three classrooms with the highest reading averages will win a $250 check from the St. Joseph Public Library & WSBT22! RETURNING THIS YEAR… Each school that registers for I Love to Read is eligible for a random drawing for $5,000 that will be awarded at the end of the competition. To be eligible to be entered in the drawing, the school must have 50% of their total classes, K-6th grade participating. Only those schools with 50% of their classes will be entered into the drawing. AND... Every school day in February a WSBT-TV personality will virtually visit all of our participating schools with on-line story time and question and answer session at 10:30 & 1:30 on WSBT.com Help us make reading a priority in February. Encourage your child to read. Reading is the key to your child’s future success! Happy Reading!
