POLITICAL IDEOLOGY SELF REVIEW Copyright © 2020 Asian American Maverick SR The news cycle is dominated by the overwhelming bias, hysteria, hate and falsehoods propagated by the majority of traditional news media, social media, Academia (Colleges and Schools) and Hollywood which are all in favor of one political party and against the other. The bias is so extreme that these various news sources do not agree with the other side on even a single issue. While this breathless barrage of the extreme propaganda coming from these various source may try to influence your thinking, how do you actually feel about the biggest topics that have impacted Americans over the past few decades and will impact them over the coming decades? Please review the list of these 50 items on the following two pages to see where you stand. Note that these topics are not specific to any given President or election. While almost nobody will likely align to just one political side on all 50 of these items, it should give you a pretty good idea of your actual political ideological alignment. Also, while the Covid-19 pandemic is changing the whole world fundamentally in many ways, you will find that your position on the following topics likely remains the same regardless of the interim policies being implemented to deal with the pandemic. Core themes to consider in evaluating these topics : - Should people that do NOT work hard or do NOT pay for products/services still be eligible to receive the same or better products/services than people that work hard or pay for the same? - If people get used to free stuff, what incentive will they have to work towards and get ahead in their lives? - If a lot of people are getting products/services at other people's cost, will the manufacturers/providers of these products/services have any incentive to not raise prices significantly? TOPICS/ISSUES DEMOCRAT REPUBLICAN IMMIGRATION 1 We should secure our borders fully and allow people to come in only LEGALLY through authorized ports of entry or via asylum centers, with sufficient background vetting Disagree Agree 2 There are over 15-20 million illegal residents in the US currently, with millions coming in/overstaying recently; They should be forced to re-apply through the legal system Disagree Agree 3 Illegal residents should NOT be allowed to use public amenities (schools, colleges, healthcare, food stamps etc.) for free paid for by other taxpayers Disagree Agree 4 Illegal residents should NOT be granted government issued photo ids or driver licenses, or legalized in any manner; 15 states including CA,NY,NJ now give DLs to illegals Disagree Agree 5 Illegal residents/non-citizens should NOT be allowed to vote in person or by mail; Citizenship should always be verified; Basic photo id like DL alone is not sufficient Disagree Agree 6 ICE - Immigration & Customs Enforcement officers should be allowed by ALL states and cities to enforce the laws and deport criminal illegal residents Disagree Agree 7 There should be annual caps on LEGAL immigration, with priority given to merit-based legal immigration and students, where productive legal immigrants are welcomed Disagree Agree 8 Chain/extended family immigration should be eliminated, especially for immigrants that do not contribute to the economy, but will consume substantial welfare benefits Disagree Agree 9 The census of the entire population done every 10 years should include a question on citizenship status, so electoral redistricting is calculated without fraud Disagree Agree 10 Birthright citizenship, where babies born in the USA get American citizenship automatically regardless of the mother's immigration status, should be eliminated Disagree Agree ECONOMY/TAXATION/WELFARE 11 The top 1% of workers by income pays 40% of all federal income taxes, Top 10% pays 70% of all such income taxes; This group already pays more than its fair share of taxes Disagree Agree 12 With a flat tax system, most tax deductions except for charity can be eliminated so that nobody (individuals or corporations) can use loopholes to pay very low taxes Disagree Agree 13 The Federal debt and annual deficit should be reduced by cutting entitlement spending, which has far outweighed tax revenues each year for the last two decades Disagree Agree 14 Massive global trade deficits and supply chain issues should be addressed with insourced manufacturing, reciprocal tariffs and enforceable trade agreements Disagree Agree 15 Globalization, high corporate taxes and excessive regulations have destroyed many industries and the middle class in developed countries Disagree Agree 16 The Fed raised interest rates 17 times in 2004-2006 and 8 times in 2017-2018. It kept rates at 0% in 2009-2016 and pumped QE money. Rapid rate increases hurt the economy Disagree Agree 17 Unemployment benefits should be short and limited to previous income so that workers have an incentive to return quickly to productive work Disagree Agree 18 Minimum wage calculations should be based on skills, age and experience, and not apply blindly to say high school kids or inexperienced temporary workers Disagree Agree 19 Food purchased using food stamps should be limited to basic food products and exclude fancy or unhealthy items Disagree Agree 20 Minority communities living on free welfare have deteriorated with increasing violence and poverty for the past many decades; Getting them jobs is the better plan Disagree Agree HEALTHCARE/PUBLIC SAFETY 21 People getting free or subsidized healthcare should NOT be eligible to receive the same and full benefits that others that pay full premiums are eligible to receive Disagree Agree 22 High premiums/copays/deductibles forced on some people should not be at the cost of providing fully free benefits for others Disagree Agree 23 Private insurance should NOT be replaced by a Universal Government run health insurance plan Disagree Agree 24 Having a wide choice of private and public insurance plans across state lines provides the right competition and flexibility to allow access to affordable healthcare Disagree Agree 25 Pre-existing conditions should be covered only in the cases where patients have proof of past coverage, else people will cheat & sign-up after an injury or sickness occurs Disagree Agree 26 Pharmaceutical companies developing life-saving drugs with high research costs should be allowed to be profitable, else they will stop critical research Disagree Agree 27 Marijuana/cannabis and similar drugs should NOT be legalized, especially for recreational purposes Disagree Agree 28 Smuggling, possession and abuse of opioid drugs should be considered a serious felony with severe punishment Disagree Agree 29 As per the Second Amendment, people should be allowed to possess guns and rifles purchased legally Disagree Agree 30 Assault style weapons should NOT be outlawed and should NOT be confiscated Disagree Agree TOPICS/ISSUES DEMOCRAT REPUBLICAN SOCIAL/RACIAL/GENDER/EDUCATION 31 Abortion should NOT be allowed except when saving the life of the mother Disagree Agree 32 Elective Abortion should NOT be allowed after the first trimester, and especially NOT allowed in the last trimester Disagree Agree 33 Marriage should be only between a man and a woman Disagree Agree 34 LGBTQ values are very disruptive to traditional family-based societies where strong Mother and Father roles are needed in each family Disagree Agree 35 Transgender persons should NOT be allowed to use the other gender's facilities in public spaces; they should NOT be provided any special amenities at others' expense Disagree Agree 36 Transgender persons should NOT be allowed to participate in the other gender's competitions; Recently, men/boys have been winning women's/girl's sports competitions Disagree Agree 37 Confederate & historical monuments/artifacts dedicated to Washington, Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson etc. should not suddenly be removed after 150+ years Disagree Agree 38 Financial reparations for entire groups of people for historical suffering (African Americans, Jews etc.) are not viable, especially given current blended racial composition Disagree Agree 39 In incidents involving police over the past many years, Whites are killed each year at twice the number of African Americans and Latinos combined; ALL LIVES MATTER Disagree Agree 40 In incidents involving police, 99% of fatalities are men, as they commit most crimes; Men being only 50% of the population is no reason to say that just MALE LIVES MATTER Disagree Agree 41 College admissions should be based solely on merit; Race, gender, religion etc. should never be used in the admission process or for scholarships Disagree Agree 42 Meritorious students get few scholarships while less meritorious students get free rides in college with need based scholarships. This system is unfair Disagree Agree 43 Parents should be able send their kids to better schools using school vouchers if their current schools are not performing well Disagree Agree 44 College loans/debt should NOT be forgiven just for current/some people; Many responsible people have worked hard to pay off their loans in the past Disagree Agree 45 God is real and all religious beliefs should be accepted and accommodated in public places Disagree Agree FOREIGN POLICY/ENVIRONMENT 46 We should not be engaged in endless military actions or regime change in foreign countries; Military missions should be short and small in scope Disagree Agree 47 Every country has to prioritize its own interests first; US financial aid to foreign countries should be restricted to just humanitarian or medical purposes Disagree Agree 48 Climate change has always occurred over the last 4.5 Billion years because of hundreds of natural factors and dozens of human factors like deforestation and urbanization Disagree Agree 49 Weather & local temperature are determined by atmospheric movement, pressure and humidity, and are not based on the trace amount of CO2 (0.04%) in the atmosphere Disagree Agree 50 The EPA/Environmental regulations should be sufficient but not excessive compared to other similar countries so as to not cripple the American industry Disagree Agree
