08/12/2023BY NEWSROOM INDIA GALLERY PRESENTS THE ATUXUÁ OFFICE, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CAMPANA STUDIO CAMPANA BROTHERS REFLECTION FERNANDO AND HUMBERTO CAMPANA | LUCIANA BRITO GALERIA DISPLAY CAMPANA STUDIO HUMBERTO CAMPANA CAMPANA BROTHERS Established by Tarini Jindal Handa as India's first collectible design gallery, æqu ō celebrates India's rich handicraft heritage through collaborations with global contemporary designers, curated by creative director Florence Louisy. For four decades, the Humberto brothers and the late Fernando Campana translated scenes from everyday life into extraordinary sculptural pieces in honor of their homeland. Celebrating the shared vision of the Campana Studio and æqu ō of honoring the culture of their country through design, the gallery invited Humberto Campana to dive into the history of India's techniques and raw materials, creating a masterpiece impregnated with Indian culture. The Atuxuá o ffi ce is an exclusive solo piece designed by Humberto Campana and created in Jaipur with æqu ō 's partner workshop, Frozen Music. Named in honor of the Brazilian indigenous masks used in healing rituals, known for their intricate craftsmanship and symbolic meaning, the Atuxuá cabinet shows the intrinsic beauty of Sabai grass - a raw fiber native to India, found mainly in the eastern and northeastern regions of the country, combining historical meaning with contemporary design. Inspired by the landscape of India and the form of traditional local bamboo objects, this grass cabinet that covers a solid brass structure is meticulously tied with brass wires as delicate as the fiber itself, faithfully emulating the traditional technique used to group the grass for trade. The wild coat covers a solid brass structure that shines in the darkness when the closet door opens. Weeks of dedicated and detailed artisanal work were spent sewing each blade of grass on a bamboo trellis to recreate the impressive mass that Sabai grass represents during its harvest. Humberto Campana talks about the design: "For this collaboration, I wanted to work with raw material and take into account a traditional handicraft from India, so the Atuxuá piece is made with natural fiber and brass. Metallurgy represents a parallel between spirituality, rituals and religious syncretism that we can find both in India and in Brazil". Florence Louisy comments: "Before working with Tarini, I spent time in São Paulo working with the Campana brothers, where I further developed my passion for craftsmanship and its origins. Studio Campana's respect for culture and craftsmanship was very inspiring and my experience with them is in my work today. It is important to understand the local culture, materials and complexities of fine craftsmanship to design well - this is at the heart of our creations - and Humberto understands this instinctively". Tarini Jindal Handa states: "We are interested in working with designers who appreciate the craftsmanship, materiality and creative possibilities of true collaboration. Humberto Campana embraced our ethos that shares deep synergy with the principles of Estúdio Campana. The result of our first collaboration is a truly unique piece with a soul that celebrates the land of India, its people and traditions, but that seems completely contemporary." SHARE: !
