1 Leo District 306A2 2 Leos of Leo District 306 A2 has illustrated the community around them that humanity is yet alive for the last 14 years. Henceforth, time has come again to rise up from illustrating to be examples of humanity to the community! Restoring humanity to Leadership is a vital aspect that as young leaders of Leos, we need to be concerned. We live in a world that serving another has become a lower priority in our ‘to-do list’. We look out for opportunities where we can gain something and not the other way around. In many occasions, unintentionally we hurt and destroy many in the way of achieving what we ‘want’ than what we ‘need’. We are in a movement where we are serving to be served. Key word of our lives is ‘Human’. This word gives an entire different meaning to our vocabulary and our life. Being human means being ‘Empathetic’, we as Leos deeply and truly needs to follow our mission in serving with a vision of empathy. First and foremost understanding and respecting in focusing on our movement and our service activities will upstage the true arena where recognition and appreciation is done. We won’t become true human leaders who will humanize our movement and society in one night or from one event. But it doesn’t mean that we have to just sit back and wait until someone do the first move. As a true leader, YOU need to be the first move in here. Go out, open your eyes and arms to understand and serve our organization with humanity. As a Leo born from 306 A2, it is with pride I see many District and Club activities happening in 2018/2019 Leoistic year! We are in middle of a great war, we need to fight for ourselves, wear your shield and carry the weapon of ‘humanity’ and let’s have a nerve to serve out! Caus, If WE Leos do not act out, no one will! Thuru Viyan 14 Club Projects Leo Club of Sri Lanka Technological Campus Project “ Samayan “ that organized by SLTC Leos was successfully completed on 17th July 2018 in Campus premises. This event was great opportunity to enhance inter relationship between other Leo clubs as well as among the students of SLTC. Most people love music, it is the supposed universal language of mankind and music is the best medicine for stress. So that ‘Samayan’ had been a big change for everyone and also be a good few hours of mind relaxing. Music crew played songs which are never can be forgotten from our hearts. Such as “Kurutu Gaa gee pothe”, “Sadalatha Payala”, “Daffodil Male”... And Prospect Wayantha Rathnakala did a Violin Solo which was the most heart touching part of the event. Samayan 15 Club Projects Leo Club of University of Moratuwa 16th Installation Ceremony Coming together is beginning, staying together is process, and working together is success. Then, it was the time for the past leaders, to pass the baton to the future pillars, for the betaken Leostic year 2018/19. After a triumphant but an exceptional year, the 16th Installation Ceremony of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was held on 29th of July 2018, appointing new club officers whom now will have a colossal task ahead, to do their very best for the club and significantly for the society. Further, the head table was decorated with many distinguished guests of Leo Multiple District 306 whom always were there behind our success story. Many Leos and lions representing both the district and the multiple were there among the participants of the ceremony while most of our past Leos enormously supported us being the backbone of every single task we carried on. At the end of the day, another Installation Ceremony which remarked an Imperial Legend of Eminence was witnessed by everyone and concluded as the benchmark of the upcoming year for the UOM Leos. 16 Club Projects Leo Club of University of Moratuwa LEAP LEAP is not just a simple word with the surface meaning you see, but has a deep meaning such that it perfectly stands for what the project actually does. There, L stands for LEARN, E for ENGAGE, A for APPLY and finally P for PERFORM. Since, UoM LEOs are a set of personalities responsible for the future of the nation, it is our duty to give a hand to improve the leadership skills of country’s younger generation. That is why, we kept steps to organize this program, and the main objective behind this was to train the students to face challenges and take right decisions fit in to various situations. Not only that, but also sharpening the moral to come forward was another purpose of this program. The Project was held on 11th and 12th of August at Badulla Pallekiruwa Vidyalaya for two days, including several sub programs targeting the students. There, the program was mainly focused on improving self-awareness, positive mindset, communication skills, social skills, leadership skills, courage, creativity, time management skills and public speaking skills through the various awareness sessions, leadership development activities, camp fire and some other fun activities held throughout the entire program. By adding a set of fabulous memories to UoM Leos’ Diary, the Project LEAP was successfully held with the participation of the school’s students and teachers together with our LEOs and prospects and concluded leaving another perfect milestone. 17 Supposing you go for your yearly physical and the doctor says: “if you don’t exercise on a regular basis, your chances of having coronary problems are high.” You would probably head straight to the gym” (at least for a week or two). What if someone, (maybe even yourself) told you: “if you don’t exercise your creativity and imagination, your spirit will get sick.” Would you start working those ‘muscles’ on a regular basis? Most of us would put it on the backburner for ‘when we have more time.’ Which never happens. Just think about racing through life without ever registering the beauty of flowers in bloom or the sharp smells of autumn? What if you couldn’t taste food anymore or even imagine the taste of food? What if you never fantasized what it would be like to have a completely different life? For many of us, the life described above would be dull, frustrating, and accompanied by the sense that something vital was missing. When we exercise what I like to call: ‘the magic what if ’ of our imagination, all our senses come alive. We feel focused, optimistic and motivated. We feel that we have the resources to make things happen. That belief can set us on the beginning of wonderful lifetime journey that is the essence of the creative life. To make our spirits thrive, we have to throw out the received notion that creativity is for the chosen few. We must establish the belief and the practice that we all have the ability and the right to be creative. For many of us it is not only a right, but a necessity of survival. We don’t have to leave the creative experience to innovative scientists, famous writers, dazzling movie stars. Each one of us is capable of gems of imagination and creative activity. These attributes are part of our evolutionary success: being creative means we can meet the challenge of the unknown and unexpected. This gives us a better chance to survive in an uncertain world. When Life is Uncertain Our Imagination Can Make the Unknown the Great Adventure of Our Lives 18 Our creative manifestations don’t have to be grandiose; they can be simple and playful and still fulfill our ravenous appetite for curiosity and exploration. I bring up the issues of simplicity and play because we often undervalue things that are easy and fun for us to do. Our usual logic is: Only hard things are valuable. If it is easy and fun then it isn’t worth anything. Not true at all sometimes things being easy for us just means that we have a natural connection, a gift for it that most people do not. Doing creative work that comes naturally to you is an efficient means of getting your imagination up and running. It helps us gain confidence in our creativity and feeds our desire to engage it more seriously because we are working in a territory that ‘sings’ to us. If gardening excites you, garden. If you are a lover of words, write. If it is singing, then by all means, sing your heart out. When you are comfortable with the medium and the materials, you will put up with the heartache and frustration inherent in the process of any creative act. You will also be preparing yourself to do inspiring work that pushes you out of your comfort zone into the wild blue horizons of undiscovered imaginative possibilities lurking inside you. If creative work is work at all, then it is playful work. Play is one of the most powerful tools for us humans to learn to think differently. It is one of the most valuable resources we have for making any new discoveries, in fields as diverse as psychology, technology, and art. Our creativity brings us a message from within that insists we tend to our vision. Like a good detective, we must tenaciously follow the clues of our imagination and we can bring that vision, that Magic What If, to life. 19 Editorial Panel Ally | The Official Newsletter Leo District 306 A2
