1 LEADING THROUGH CHANGE Prof. Guido Gianasso 1. OVERVIEW The global economy presents many opportuni5es and challenges for organiza5ons and their leaders. In this increasingly VUCA (vola5le, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world, business leaders need to develop a repertoire of new strategic leadership capab ili5es to lead transforma5on and aEract, mo5vate, and develop an increasingly diverse workforce. This program is built on two important “pillars”. First, in order to survive and thrive in this ever - changing environment, managers need to know themselves, their strengths and weaknesses as leaders. They also need to understand how the very defini5on of leadership has changed and the connec5on between their own personality and leadership style. Second, this module will equip par5cipants with a beEer understanding of change management so that they can adjust to, lead and implement change more effec5vely at their workplace. 2. OUTCOMES APer comple5on of this course, par5cipants are expected: 1) To consolidate their understanding of their own personality and leadership style 2) To gain a clear understanding of what drives behavioral change in organiza5ons and acquire and develop leadership behaviors and competencies in managing and suppor5ng organiza5onal change, including restructuring and lay - offs 3) To enhance their repertoire of strategic leadership capabili5es, e.g., team development, communica5on, nego5a5on, and change skill 3. MODULE STRUCTURE The module will use a variety of different approaches: • Plenary session lectures, presen5ng and discussing the main conceptual and prac5cal approaches to developing and growing leadership competencies • Prac5cal exercises and group work will invite par5cipants to appropriate and discuss cri5cal competencies. 2 • Individual work on the par5cipant’s organiza5onal and personal challenges will then be translated into goal seVng and the personal steps in leadership to be taken moving forw 4. PREPARATION AND SELF - ASSESSMENT Prior to the start of the course, each par5cipant must complete three psychometric assessments: NEO PI - R ™ is the standard ques5onnaire measure of the Five Factor Personality Model (FFM) used by many leading business schools. It provides a systema5c assessment of emo5onal, interpersonal, experien5al, aVtudinal, and mo5va5onal styles -- a detailed personality descrip5on that can be a valuable resource for a variety of profession als. The NEO PI - R offers a concise measure of the five major domains of personality, as well as the six traits or facets that define each domain. Taken together, the five domain scales and 30 facet scales of the NEO PI - R provide a clear, comprehensive, and detailed assessment of your personality. GOLEMAN AND BOYATZIS LEADERSHIP STYLE QUIZ Good leaders are not born, they are made every day prac5cing empathy and learning how to inspire people to fulfil their poten5al. To this end, Daniel Goleman created a leadership style quiz that can help people understand their own style and make improve ments. 5. TEACHING METHODS We believe that the classroom is a safe environment (a learning community) for experimen5ng with behavior that may not be comfortable or natural for the par5cipants to exhibit on the job as managers. Our classroom then, is a place to learn, exchange ideas, and gain understanding of the behavioral basis of leadership so that change may be las5ng. We will use small group exercises, simula5ons and readings to illustrate the main point(s) of the material we are covering. Par5cipa5on in these ac5vi5es — ques5ons, observa5ons, points of view, asking for behavioral feedback — is important for success in the course and to enhance each par5cipant’s experience. 6.
